My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 431: To Have a Child
Faye Fisher heard the sound of crying and thought she had disturbed someone, so she quickly turned to go back.
But to her surprise, a quick glance revealed it was someone she recognized.
It was the kind girl she had just seen helping someone on the first floor.
’What kind of serious illness does she have to make her so upset?’
The hospital was full of grieving people, so normally Faye Fisher wouldn’t have thought much of it. But for some reason, she felt a strange curiosity about this girl.
She couldn’t help but walk over to her.
"Hi, is there anything I can help with? What’s wrong?"
Seeing someone come down from upstairs and speak to her, Amina quickly stifled her sobs.
Through her tear-filled eyes, she saw a fair-skinned, beautiful woman with an exceptional air about her. She looked like an ethereal beauty from a wealthy, sheltered life.
Amina nodded at her politely.
"Hi, I’m sorry. Did I scare you?"
Faye replied, "No. It’s not like I own the hospital. I’m the one who should be sorry for disturbing you... You look so young. Why are you crying so hard? Do you have a serious illness?"
"It’s not me. It’s my grandmother."
Amina felt her whole body go weak, and as she spoke, she sat down on the stairs.
"My grandmother has had a hard life. I was planning to bring her to the big city to enjoy her later years, but I never expected..."
Although they were staying in a VIP ward, the oppressive atmosphere was everywhere. Faye Fisher didn’t have a job and had nothing to do. She spent every day with her parents-in-law, having to pretend to be gentle, considerate, and virtuous. Over time, it had become mentally and physically exhausting.
She had ducked into the stairwell just to catch her breath and didn’t want to go back so soon, so she sat down next to Amina.
"Where are you from? How old is your grandmother? What did the doctor say?"
Amina didn’t have any friends. When people are faced with sorrow, they have the desire to confide in someone.
Faye Fisher seemed young, beautiful, gentle, and considerate. Amina felt an unprompted sense of goodwill toward her, so she told her everything about her grandmother in great detail.
Faye Fisher found it a bit strange. "Lymphoma? That disease usually has symptoms, especially in the later stages. Fever, skin ulcers, accompanied by diarrhea or abdominal pain... they’re pretty easy to notice. Are you very busy with work? Did you really not notice any of your grandmother’s symptoms?"
Amina’s work was indeed demanding, but not so much that she wouldn’t have noticed her grandmother having a fever or abdominal pain.
If not for all those people who had stormed her home to cause a scene today, she was certain that her grandmother, aside from poor eyesight, an aching back and legs, and other ailments accumulated from years of hard labor, had none of the symptoms Faye described.
Amina’s eyes suddenly lit up, and a glimmer of hope rekindled in her heart.
"Could it be a misdiagnosis? My grandmother doesn’t have any of the symptoms you mentioned, and there’s no way she could hide it from me that well. Miss, how do you know about this disease? Are you sure?"
Faye Fisher said, "My grandfather had this disease when he was alive, so I’m quite familiar with it. If your grandmother doesn’t have these symptoms, it really could be a misdiagnosis. Don’t be so quick to grieve. You should go find the doctor to confirm it again, or go to another hospital to get her re-examined."
Just moments ago, Amina had felt that life was bleak and hopeless. Now, her spirits were suddenly revived, and she shot to her feet.
"I’ll go right now. Thank you, Miss. You’re such a good person. I’m a food delivery driver. Do you order delivery often? Why don’t you take my number? The next time you order, you can request me specifically. I won’t charge a delivery fee; I’ll deliver it for free."
Faye Fisher’s few words of advice were just a simple gesture. Seeing Amina so grateful that she was offering to deliver food for free, she couldn’t help but find it a little amusing.
But it was a kind offer, after all, so she didn’t refuse.
"Okay, then let’s exchange numbers. I’m also quite concerned about your grandmother. If it turns out there’s nothing wrong, send me a message and let me know."
After exchanging numbers and names, Amina ran off. Faye Fisher suddenly felt the weight in her own heart lighten.
’No wonder she likes to help people despite her hard life. Seeing someone feel a little better because of you really does make you feel better inside.’ Faye also returned to the hospital room.
In the hospital room, Brandon Jacobs had arrived.
Mr. Jacobs’s condition had improved a little today, and he had woken from his deep sleep. At that moment, Brandon Jacobs and his mother were sitting by the hospital bed, listening to him speak.
Seeing Faye Fisher enter, Mr. Jacobs weakly gripped Brandon Jacobs’s hand.
"I know my own body. My time is running out. I can’t bear the thought of leaving your mother all alone in this world. Son, even if it’s just so I can die in peace, you and Faye need to have a child as soon as possible. If I can see your life continue, see that your mother has something to live for, I won’t have to worry so much about you two..."
In the past, Brandon Jacobs would have hated this kind of emotional blackmail from his father, but now, he couldn’t refuse.
"I know, Dad. We’ll do it as soon as we can."
Mr. Jacobs then looked toward Faye Fisher. "Faye, this must be hard on you. Coming into the Jacobs Family only to see me in this state..."
"Dad," Faye Fisher quickly knelt in front of him, interrupting.
"Don’t say that. Since I married Brandon, it’s my duty to have children for the Jacobs Family. Even if you hadn’t said anything, we would have a child as soon as possible. Please don’t let your mind wander. Just focus on getting better. A child needs their grandfather."
"Good, good. Seeing you both be so understanding makes me happier than any medicine could."
After comforting his father, Brandon Jacobs had to go back to work, and Faye Fisher saw him out.
Outside the hospital room, Brandon Jacobs suddenly broke his usual silence and spoke to Faye Fisher.
"I wasn’t joking just now. You should seriously consider it. Since we’re already married, it must be fate that brought us this far. Heaven must have its reasons for arranging things this way. Why don’t we both let go of the past and give this a real try? Maybe having a child would be good for both of us."
In truth, Faye Fisher hadn’t been joking either. The moment she had promised Mr. Jacobs, she had been sincere.
Brandon Jacobs was right. Since they had come this far, there must be some fate at play. Clinging to impossible things from the past wasn’t good for anyone.
’If we can let go of the past and give it a real try, maybe a wonderful future is waiting for us.’
Faye Fisher looked at Brandon Jacobs and reached out to straighten his clothes.
"Come home from work early tonight. I’ll be waiting for you."
Brandon Jacobs was true to his word. That afternoon, he returned to the old Jacobs Family residence right on time.
His mother was still at the hospital. The housekeeper made dinner for him and Faye Fisher. After a quick bite, they went back to their room together.
They had been married for some time, and although they shared the same suite every night, one of them had always slept in the bedroom while the other slept in the living room outside. Now, they entered the bedroom together, drew the curtains, and prepared to face what came next as if it were a task to be completed. They both felt a little nervous and found the situation strange.
Brandon Jacobs was the man, so he had to take the initiative in these matters. Despite the awkwardness, he walked over to Faye Fisher and pulled her into his arms.
His heart didn’t pound wildly as he might have expected, nor did he feel the joy of holding his beautiful wife.
On the contrary, the moment he thought about what was about to happen, his mind was filled with Elsa. He was consumed by the guilt of betraying her, and nothing else.
