My CEO Husband Says I'm Irreplaceable
Chapter 173: You Can Get Lost Now
Chapter 173: Chapter 173: You Can Get Lost Now
Lindsay Sawyer bent down and picked up the tag from the torn dress. Her fingertips brushed over the numbers, and her pupils contracted as her eyes widened in shock.
Six figures! A single dress was priced at a staggering 680,000!
"How can it be this expensive!" she gasped, her voice filled with disbelief.
"I told you already. This is an exclusive overseas custom design, specially air-freighted into the country. Did you think I was joking?" Shiloh Sloan’s lips curled into an icy smile as her sharp gaze swept over the two of them. "WhatsApp, PayPal, or credit card? The Summers Family is a respectable name in Northolme. Surely you can afford to compensate for a dress costing over 600,000, can’t you?"
It wasn’t that Lindsay Sawyer couldn’t afford a sum over 600,000, but she and Hank Summers hadn’t even had their wedding yet. Why should she be the one to foot the bill for Summer? Deep down, she was completely unwilling.
After a moment’s hesitation, she glanced sideways. "Summer, you’re the one who tore the dress. You should be the one to pay for it."
Summer snatched the tag from her. When she saw the price, her face instantly turned deathly pale, and she immediately shot back sharply.
"Impossible! Shiloh Sloan, you’re clearly trying to rip me off! I’m not paying a single cent!"
"It seems you didn’t learn your lesson from earlier." Shiloh Sloan took a step forward, the oppressive aura she exuded was startling. She looked coldly at Lindsay Sawyer. "Move."
Lindsay Sawyer couldn’t help but tremble. She hastily shook off Summer’s hand and shrank to the side, not daring to make a sound.
"Sister-in-law?"
Summer stared at Lindsay Sawyer in utter disbelief. She never would have imagined that her sister-in-law, who had always doted on her and taken her side, wouldn’t help her at all.
"Summer, you were the one in the wrong from the start. Why did you have to go looking for trouble?" Lindsay Sawyer chided, dissatisfied. "You tore Miss Sloan’s dress, so you should compensate her for the full price."
"On what grounds! She hit me, too!" Summer seethed through gritted teeth, her eyes red as she argued dishonestly. "You think you can just show me a fake tag and prove the dress is worth 680,000? Who knows if this thing is real or fake!"
Just moments ago, the tag had been torn right off the dress in front of them. Even now, Summer was still refusing to admit she was wrong. Getting hit was something she had brought entirely upon herself.
Shiloh Sloan’s eyes turned cold. She mercilessly grabbed a handful of Summer’s long hair, forcing her head up, and said in a chilling tone,
"Since your eyes don’t work well enough to see the facts, there’s no use keeping them."
"Ah! Shiloh Sloan, you dare hit me! I’m not finished with you—"
Before Summer could finish her screaming threat, two crisp slaps rang out. The force was so great that it left her dizzy. Blood instantly trickled from the corner of her lip as half her face swelled up and turned red.
"Are you going to pay or not?" Shiloh Sloan was expressionless, her voice devoid of any emotion. "Think carefully before you answer. I don’t mind hitting you until you’re willing to pay!"
"You dare! The Summers Family will never let you get away with this! You just wait... Ah!"
Another two vicious slaps landed. Summer’s cheeks burned, and her mouth filled with the taste of blood. She could no longer utter any arrogant words, only tremble in pain.
Watching from the side, Lindsay Sawyer was terrified. She quickly stepped forward to persuade her. "Summer, why are you being so stubborn! A wise person yields to the circumstances. Don’t keep toughing it out and asking for more pain."
"Did you hear your sister-in-law?" Shiloh Sloan tightened her grip, causing tears to stream down Summer’s face from the pain. "You’re already ugly to begin with. If your face gets ruined from the beating, what man would dare to marry you in the future?"
Overwhelmed by intense pain and fear, Summer could no longer hold out. She trembled all over.
"I... I’ll pay!"
Only then did Shiloh Sloan release her. Taking the hint, Lindsay Sawyer immediately held out a purse to Summer.
Summer’s eyes were filled with venom and resentment, but she could only endure the humiliation and obediently transfer the 680,000.
"Now you can get lost." Shiloh Sloan straightened her sleeves, her tone indifferent. "A word of warning. Don’t even think about calling the police. There are no security cameras in the dressing room. The cameras in the hallway outside will only show you barging into my dressing room and starting trouble. Even if the police come, you won’t have a leg to stand on."
Lindsay Sawyer quickly moved to help Summer up but was violently shoved away.
"I’m definitely telling my big brother about this!"
Hearing this, Lindsay Sawyer’s expression instantly turned ugly. ’Shiloh Sloan’s slaps were too light!’ she thought to herself.
Meanwhile, Vesper Grayson had already chosen her wedding gown and reception dress. After waiting a long time for Shiloh Sloan to return, she decided to get up and look for her.
Just as she turned around, she saw Shiloh Sloan walk in, having already changed back into the clothes she had arrived in.
"Why did you stop trying on dresses?" Vesper Grayson asked, a little puzzled. "You only tried on one bridesmaid dress."
Shiloh Sloan smiled and walked closer. "You have the best taste. It’s fine if you just pick one for me."
The bridesmaid dresses were custom-tailored to her measurements anyway, so there was naturally no issue of them not fitting.
"President Hawthorne, there was a small accident on my end just now. A custom bridesmaid dress was damaged. This is the compensation for it; I’ll transfer it to you." Shiloh Sloan took out her phone, about to scan a code to pay.
Jared Hawthorne sat on the sofa, his posture upright and his expression serene. "It’s no matter. You’re Vesper’s friend. These dresses were prepared for you, so there’s no need for compensation."
"Business is business. The dress was damaged on my watch, so I have to be the one to pay." Shiloh Sloan’s attitude was firm. She turned to Vesper Grayson. "I’ll just transfer it to you directly, then."
She was fine with wearing the dress, but she wouldn’t let them pay for the damages. Without another word, she transferred the money.
Vesper Grayson’s brow furrowed slightly. Sensing that something was amiss, she asked with concern, "What exactly happened?"
"It was nothing major. Summer just came looking for trouble, and I sent her packing," Shiloh Sloan said casually, as if she had just dealt with a trivial matter.
"You laid a hand on her?" Vesper Grayson was astonished. She immediately pulled Shiloh over and looked her up and down. "Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine. I’ve been learning some self-defense from Quentin Stone and Magnus lately. It was more than enough to deal with her," Shiloh Sloan said with a reassuring smile.
Vesper Grayson’s frown deepened, her heart filled with worry.
"Summer is narrow-minded and vengeful. You made her suffer such a huge loss today; she definitely won’t let this go. You have to be extra careful from now on."
’First Quentin Chandler was pestering her, and now Summer has it out for her. I really can’t stop worrying about Shiloh’s safety.’
"Don’t worry. With Quentin Stone and Magnus protecting me, I’ll be extra careful." A cold glint flashed in Shiloh Sloan’s eyes. Lately, whenever she went out, she always kept pepper spray, a taser, and a dagger in her bag. Even if she did run into real danger, her opponent wouldn’t get the upper hand easily.
Vesper Grayson wanted to add a few more words of caution, but Shiloh Sloan quickly changed the subject, looking at her with a smile.
"So, have you picked out the wedding gown?"
