Chapter 852 -837: The Werewolf’s Wait

In the spiral passage connecting the eighth and ninth levels, the Demon King and Link leaped directly from the middle.

Demon fire burned behind the Demon King, incinerating mycelium to ash wherever it passed.

Upon landing, the Demon King reminded, “The ninth level of the Purple Crystal Dungeon, the Meat Nest. It contains many demons capable of assimilating and devouring flesh, which pose no threat to you and me. However, they are aware of my teleportation ability, so they might have…”

“Have what? Defenses?”

Link followed out of the passage but suddenly stopped.

Before him was not the flesh-covered walls and flesh-eating monsters that the Demon King described, but a bizarrely desolate space.

As far as the eye could see, there were only rocks without even a trace of moss. Even the omnipresent fungal mat was sparse and negligible here.

Not that there was nothing at all—within the shadows of this desolate land, Link still found several existing panels.

However, they were not ordinary panels.

[Race: Killer Rabbit (Scrapped)]

[Level: Level 55]

[Skills: Stirring Claw Level 9, Bloodthirsty Enhancement Level 7…]

[Race: Shadow Puppet (Scrapped)]

[Level: Level 41]

[Skills: Puppet Curse Level 8, Shadow Shifting Level 7…]

[Race: Shadow Worm (Scrapped)]

…

“Scrapped? What is this…?” Whether Link from 300 years ago has seen these things is unclear, but for the recently resurrected Link, it was his first time seeing such panels.

The Demon King’s expression grew grave: “That guy, did he even explore the Abyss…? No, only he could have…”

Just then, a small patch of fungal mat beside them wilted rapidly, draining off its scarce magic power, as a rag-like voice Puki emerged from the fungus.

“Aiya, aiya! So that’s where you went! Turns out you’ve come to my home!”

The slimy, nauseating voice layered upon itself, causing a ripple on the jelly-like surface of the Demon King. Having encountered Lin Jun’s unconventional sonic attacks multiple times, he was already accustomed.

However, Link, hearing this voice for the first time, was not so composed.

The usually unflappable Link flinched slightly at the sound of such nauseating evil, glancing suspiciously at the wriggling voice Puki on the ground.

The voice Puki slithered deliberately to the Demon King’s feet: “Using the dungeon’s innate teleportation arrays, which auto-repair even if dismantled, is indeed impressive. However, you wouldn’t naively think that’s enough to ambush me, right?”

“Why not just give up? Though these are just Abyssal scraps, some of their skills are indeed troublesome. You can still turn back now!”

Seeing the two unmoved, Lin Jun kindly reminded them, “Seems you’re determined to be unwelcome guests, so bring it on! But… better be quick. I’m already starting to move…”

Crack—!

Finally unable to stand the mushroom sound, Link stomped the voice Puki flat, watching distant discarded panels accelerating towards them. He drew his longsword from his waist: “It knows we’re here. We don’t have much time. Shall we hack our way through?”

“Watch the panels. I haven’t studied the Abyssal scraps much, but there are indeed some tricky ones. Be cautious.” With those words, the Demon King raised his hand, enveloping them in multiple enhancement and protection spells.

Link didn’t delay, stamped on the ground, and instantly became a ground-hugging missile, carving a scar into the barren earth. Where he passed, the demons were either torn to shreds by the swift sword light or blasted apart outright.

“I did say be cautious…”

The wind swept up the Demon King, pursuing closely.

…

Meanwhile, a multitude of Puki emerged from the fungal mats of the Deep Area, then flooded into the tenth level.

The mighty Puki army startled the remaining old werewolves of the ninth level, who first thought Puki was finally there to destroy them.

So many Puki not only frightened the werewolves but also made the top of the food chain demons of the tenth level, like Haka and the Split-tooth Beasts, instinctively shrink back into their lairs, not daring to come out.

Lin Jun paid no attention to the local demons of the tenth level. Once these Puki exploded, there would be little left of them.

However, Lin Jun knew this level of Puki self-destruction, no matter how many, could only cause minor trouble for those two, merely delaying their arrival to the Deep Area.

But that was enough. After all, these temporarily spawned Puki were just byproducts of Lin Jun’s current actions.

Lin Jun was actually draining the entire Deep Area of magic power!

Spellcasters gain power from the high concentration of magic in the mist and become weak when the surrounding magic is scarce! ℴℴ𝘮

This was a Magic Prohibition Array that only Lin Jun could set up, draining even more thoroughly than the one Mortis used!

The magic power devoured by the fungal mats needed a destination. Not only was there a storage limit, but if it just remained in the fungal mats, once they were destroyed, the magic would disperse.

It was perfect to compress them into self-destructive Puki and send them to the tenth level.

Simultaneously, Lin Jun also sent the news about the Demon King and Link’s intrusion down, activating the defense forces of all caves in the Deep Area.

Through the sparse fungal mats of the ninth level, Lin Jun observed the figures continuously breaking through the encirclement of abyssal demons.

“Come, come, I’m waiting for you in the deepest part. Let’s see if you have the ability to face me…”

…

Tenth level, the werewolf settlement.

Puki filled the tenth level in no time, and the settlement was no exception.

The old wolves gathered in the innermost hut, appearing very anxious.

“What on earth is going on? These mushroom creatures suddenly arrive and do nothing. What are these vile creatures up to?”

Puki had taken away almost all the young werewolves of the werewolf tribe; the stubborn old ones naturally had no good impression of Puki.

However, living in the enclosed tenth level, they couldn’t possibly understand the current situation.

The unknown and feeling of powerlessness drove them crazy but left them helpless.

At this moment, a thunderous sound came from a distance. Some werewolves recognized it as from the direction of the ninety-level connecting passage.

Rumble—rumble—rumble—

Continuous thunderous sounds got closer, making the old wolves increasingly nervous.

Finally, two figures, chased by countless explosions, appeared in the old wolves’ field of vision.

The human on the ground, covered in dirt, was at the center of countless sword lights, slashing apart any Puki that failed to explode in time.

If Puki self-destructed in advance, he would forcefully change direction with a step, seemingly defying inertia.

In the sky, the wind rolled up a spellcaster clad in clean, tight white garments, only missing the left sleeve, revealing a jelly-like limb.

The missing sleeve was cut by Link; that charging fool was indeed hit by several traps, one time being controlled by a Shadow Puppet.

Though dispelled violently by Link in an instant, in any other team, it would have been devastating.

However, this scene looked completely different in the eyes of the werewolves.

Staring at the approaching figure of the Demon King in the sky, a few old wolves gradually opened their eyes wide.

“The one in the sky feels a bit like…”

“The clothes are the same as on the stone tablet!”

“Could it really be…”

The old wolves trembled with excitement, momentarily forgetting the ever-nearing explosions.

Tears welled in their cloudy eyes as if years of waiting and perseverance finally brought dawn, especially now.

The leading old wolf sprinted forward, reverently opening its arms to the white figure just before it, shouting with all its might: “Demon King Da—”

Rumble—

The shockwave from the self-destructing Puki instantly engulfed him, yet the Demon King who noticed these werewolves did not pause but, while passing by, opened the Yellow-covered Book, adding several pages to it.
