Cecilia Vaughn was having trouble adjusting to the time difference, as she and Adrian Law were supposed to attend a winery gala in just two hours. This was way too rushed! She really wanted to take a nap. What if she messed up and got criticized at the gala?!

Originally, they didn’t need to rush this much, but there happened to be a very famous high-society event in Caelus, and the winery was really hoping Cecilia and Adrian would attend. Yet they couldn’t arrive a day early, so they found themselves in this dilemma.

...

Cecilia blinked tiredly, her arm resting halfway on the man’s shoulder.

"Adrian, I’m going to take a nap for a bit. Just wake me when we’re at the hotel, okay?"

"Cecilia, if you’re really not up for it, maybe skip the gala tonight."

He gazed at her slightly pale and weary profile, feeling countless waves of pity and care.

"No... We agreed to go, and it’s also being live-streamed on Weibo. If we don’t attend, those haters might start making noise again."

Adrian furrowed his brows.

"Cecilia, you shouldn’t care about other people’s opinions. If it bothers you so much, I can go alone. You can just rest at the hotel."

"No way..."

Cecilia shook her head insistently.

She looked resolutely at Adrian, the fatigue between her eyebrows dissipating, replaced by determination and vigor.

"Adrian, life isn’t a show for others. I understand you want to convey that there’s no need to make yourself unhappy for others."

"But, I also want to attend this gala with you. It’s already been officially announced, and I don’t want to disappoint the fans who are anticipating the live stream."

...

Cecilia felt a lot of emotions within her. Even though she wasn’t a celebrity, due to her experiences over the past six months, she had accumulated quite a few fans on Weibo.

Ignoring those who deliberately left negative comments, most of the female fans were kind and approachable. Sometimes, Cecilia even felt that though she never met or talked with them, they felt like distant relatives.

Much better than her bothersome relatives.

As for her male fans...

Uh...

Cecilia wasn’t bad-looking—she could hold her own against the national goddess Fiona Vaughn—but perhaps due to her bold nature and past incident defending herself from an attacker, she had very few male fans on Weibo.

If there were any, they would be casual appearance-focused types, easily swayed.

...

Through this time, Cecilia suddenly understood why some celebrities enjoy the spotlight on stage.

Because there’s a group of people who silently support you, admire you, worry for your worries, and rejoice for your joys, even if you have never met.

Being adored and admired is a positive reinforcement.

It’s much better than being unanimously scorned, or living with no sense of presence at all.

...

Adrian sighed and gently caressed Cecilia’s cheek, finally yielding to her insistence.

"Alright, alright, whatever you say, sleepyhead. Now go to sleep. I’ll wake you when we arrive."

He held her hand tightly, and together they got into the car sent to pick them up.

Then, the car sped toward the hotel.

...

Cecilia dozed for half an hour until Adrian nudged her shoulder, and she realized the environment around her had drastically changed.

She wasn’t even in the car anymore but in a very modern hotel suite.

"Adrian... are you saying you carried me back?"

Imagining the scene, Cecilia’s cheeks turned rosy, her beautiful black almond eyes sparkled with a hint of starlight.

Embarrassment and delight intermingled.

Adrian lightly tapped Cecilia’s forehead.

"Who else?"

"You wouldn’t prefer a hotel bellboy to carry you back, right?"

...

Hearing Adrian’s faint jealousy in his words, Cecilia couldn’t help but laugh despite her exasperation.

"Hey, I wouldn’t dare let another man carry me back. I wasn’t even thinking about that, but someone is already getting jealous. You must be the reincarnation of a vinegar pot!"

Being given such a label by his little wife, Adrian turned his head haughtily, something rarely seen.

"Okay, enough teasing. Get up, rinse your mouth, and let’s get changed so we can head out."

"No makeup?"

Cecilia was surprised.

Adrian produced a mirror, and Cecilia was astonished to see herself, already wearing lipstick and with elegantly styled sideburns.

"Did you guys do my makeup while I was asleep?!"

Honestly, the technique wasn’t bad.

But the makeup actually was quite natural, not heavy, so it shouldn’t have taken long.

...

Adrian nodded with a smile.

"Yes, it’s to save time. Amy, the makeup artist, said you have great skin and natural beauty that’s hard to abandon, so she just tidied you up a bit. We’re not the stars, so we don’t need to go all out."

"Alright."

Cecilia nodded, then got up and saw the exquisite evening gown hanging just three steps away.

...

The light white pearl gown was very fresh and elegant, yet it had luxurious gold trimming. As the wearer moved, the pearls glimmered differently.

This low-key yet luxurious dress certainly seemed like Adrian’s taste.

"And what will you wear?"

Cecilia curiously glanced at Adrian. He smiled slightly, winked at her, and then retrieved a pure white tailcoat matching her dress from the wardrobe nearby.

The most striking feature was the pearl cufflinks on the tailcoat.

Unnoticeable at first glance, but when Cecilia and Adrian stood together, they looked like an impeccably matched couple.

...

"Change into your clothes, and then Amy will quickly style your hair. We can leave after that."

"Okay."

...

Cecilia quickly changed into the pearl gown.

She initially thought that putting on this zip-backed dress would be simple, but embarrassingly, she couldn’t zip it up by herself!

Ugh, she’d only eaten a little more than usual these past few days, but now she had back flab?!

Oh heavens, oh earth, she could just die of embarrassment!

...

"Adrian, could you help me with the zipper?"

Cecilia blushed, slightly opening the door of the vanity room to invite Adrian over, feeling a bit shy.
