Hearing that Zion Prescott had left, Cecilia Vaughn was startled and inexplicably felt a sense of trust.

But… why was Doctor Prescott so proactive? Adrian Law’s explanation, for some reason, always made Cecilia Vaughn a bit uneasy.

It was as if some mystery was unraveling, revealing its true form amidst layers of fog.

A certain suspicion flashed across Cecilia Vaughn’s mind, but she really didn’t want to think further, always feeling that the direction she was contemplating was too irresponsible.

A person like Doctor Prescott, even if his ex-girlfriend was in the entertainment industry, shouldn’t harbor such bias against “There are branches on the mountain”…

Unless…

Cecilia was taken aback.

—The last time by the lake in the suburbs, Adrian Law mentioned that Doctor Prescott had been quite down lately because he ran into his first love, and there was no chance of them getting back together.

At the time, Cecilia Vaughn was curious about who was so highbrow to even reject someone like Zion Prescott, who was nearly a dream lover.

At this moment, she swallowed hard, almost immediately recalling the confrontation between Zion Prescott and Claire Sinclair, the female lead of “There are branches on the mountain,” during the opening ceremony at Sage’s Mercy Temple.

…

Why was Zion Prescott so harsh to a girl he had only met once?

Even if Claire Sinclair was a rising star in the entertainment industry, even if Zion Prescott resented girls from the entertainment industry because of his first love, he shouldn’t lose his manners in public; after all, they were just strangers.

But what if… those rumors were just a smokescreen?!

Recalling Claire Sinclair’s uneasy demeanor in front of Zion Prescott, the more Cecilia Vaughn thought about it, the scarier it seemed.

Could it be that Zion Prescott’s ex-girlfriend was Claire Sinclair?!

The world is so big, how is that possible?

Cecilia desperately wanted to dismiss the idea, vigorously shaking her head to clear her mind of nonsense.

She must have drawn too many comics, leading to such unfounded fantasies.

After all, aside from a slight fear, Claire Sinclair’s attitude towards Zion Prescott seemed more like that of a stranger.

What if Claire Sinclair only knew Zion Prescott was one of the movie’s investors and didn’t want to lose her lead role in “There are branches on the mountain,” so she was afraid of being replaced?

When this idea emerged, Cecilia Vaughn felt a bit more relieved.

She didn’t dare think about the other possibility.

She always felt that such thoughts involuntarily tainted Zion Prescott and Claire Sinclair.

After all, she had a good impression of both of them.

…

Just as Cecilia Vaughn was wallowing in her sorrows, Bella Prescott came with a bunch of stuff and saw Cecilia standing alone under a holly tree, looking as miserable as if she had lost five million.

“Cecilia, what’s wrong? Aren’t you going to the fire site?”

Bella Prescott had initially seen Cecilia anxious, but now seeing her standing quietly under the tree, though her brows drooped, she seemed to have lost the urgency to rush to the scene.

Cecilia Vaughn nodded; her face still didn’t look good.

“Belle, I really don’t need to go. Adrian said he’s already arranged for people to handle it, so if I went, I’d just get in the way.”

“Oh, your dear CEO really cares about your crew’s progress. I thought someone of his level would be swamped with work.”

“It’s not that exaggerated…”

Cecilia was briefly amused by Bella Prescott’s playful expression, but soon, she sighed glumly again.

“Cecilia, what’s the matter? You seem downcast, that’s not like you! Since your CEO said he would handle the crew’s matters, why are you still so worried?”

“No one can save those already affected, but at least the losses are now under control, and the injured will be promptly taken to the hospital.”

Bella Prescott believed that someone like Adrian Law, who had weathered many storms, surely had the ability to handle such a sudden crisis.

No one wants to see the loss of two innocent lives, yet since it happened, sighing is pointless.

…

Cecilia knew that Bella Prescott misunderstood why she was upset. She somewhat hesitantly grabbed Bella’s arm. Although they were close, Cecilia thought it was still Zion Prescott and Claire Sinclair’s privacy, and she had no concrete evidence—it was all speculation. So Cecilia had to invent identities for them and let Bella guess for her.

“Belle, I’m not upset about that… Let me ask you something, it might be a bit shocking…”

“Huh?! Shocking? Do tell. It wouldn’t be some mind-blowing gossip, would it?”

“Not to the point of being mind-blowing, just some twists and turns. Let’s say you have a friend who used to have a great relationship with someone but broke up. Then later, she meets someone else to whom she’s very close and they’re about to talk about marriage…”

Oh, maybe talking about marriage was a bit too serious.

After all, even though Claire Sinclair and Jude Grant had a good relationship, Cecilia believed that as an emerging star in the entertainment industry, Claire Sinclair would have the sense to announce a relationship and not rush into marriage.

Cecilia awkwardly coughed a couple of times, quickly skipping over this unimportant detail.

“Anyway, two people are getting along well with no disputes, but one day, when meeting the parents, your friend finds out that one of her new boyfriend’s relatives is her ex-boyfriend; what would you think?”

“Huh?! Such an awkward showdown?”

Bella Prescott got it instantly, but she didn’t connect it to Claire and them; after all, these people were unfamiliar to her and Cecilia rarely mentioned Claire and Zion.

“If… the ex doesn’t stir up trouble, and the current boyfriend treats me well, and since they are relatives but not like biological brothers, encountering them on holidays is fine; no need to break the engagement over it.”

Bella Prescott thought for a moment and answered uneasily.

Hearing Bella’s answer, Cecilia was dazed for a second, then threw out another dilemma.

“Even though it’s not a direct blood relative, that relative is neither too distant nor too close, and also an idol to the current boyfriend.”

“…Geez, that’s too complicated. I give up answering.”

…

The filming site of “There are branches on the mountain” was already half burned. Claire Sinclair was filming a horse scene at the time, and the horse was quite disturbed. Luckily, she reacted quickly, only scratching her elbow and slightly bruising her cheek; the injuries were not serious.

As Claire Sinclair looked down, letting the makeup artist treat her, she suddenly heard a joyful shout from outside the door.

“Mr. Prescott, what brings you here?!”
