Cecilia Vaughn heard the dignified yet noble aged female voice, and inexplicably felt it was familiar, but for the moment couldn’t recall where she’d heard it before.

She was still affected by the sedative spray those two thugs had initially used on her. Although she had been exposed to the cold wind from the moment she got out of the car until now, and had bitten her lip to try to fully wake up, it wasn’t enough to completely clear her head.

Her brain was working frantically with all available thoughts, but Cecilia just couldn’t figure out how she had offended such a person.

...

Meanwhile, the middle-aged thug who had earlier introduced himself as Second Forrest lowered his head obsequiously, and even though Cecilia’s face was still covered with the sack, she could clearly sense the fawning in his voice.

"Madam, rest assured, it’s definitely that little girl Cecilia Vaughn! We didn’t do anything to her, just used some sedatives on the way to prevent her from struggling."

"Take the mask off her face. Is she awake yet? Why does it look like she still needs support?"

"I guess she hasn’t woken up yet. We used a pretty strong dose."

Second Forrest chuckled, directing his boss to help Cecilia to the chair nearby, then followed the old woman’s instructions and completely removed the sack from Cecilia’s face.

...

Cecilia was actually awake, but to make them lower their guard, she kept her eyes closed, pretending to be uncomfortable when suddenly exposed to the strong light from outside.

With her eyes shut, she couldn’t see anything, yet Cecilia felt a vicious gaze fixated on her face.

The eyes bore deep hatred, as if Cecilia had an irreconcilable enmity with their owner from somewhere in the past.

Had she ever offended such a distinguished and elderly lady?

Cecilia couldn’t think of any.

She was very anxious, wanting to first see her captor’s face, but didn’t dare open her eyes rashly.

The best plan now was to first relax their vigilance.

She didn’t believe these people wouldn’t take her to that place first. They were obviously in a large hall, and with so many eyes and ears around, Cecilia had no way to think of escaping.

...

Just as Cecilia was fraught with anxiety, the old woman saw her true appearance beneath the sack, and immediately let out a cold laugh.

"Heh, it’s indeed this despicable woman!"

The words dripped with hatred and bitterness, like a venomous snake flicking its tongue, wanting to swallow Cecilia whole.

Cecilia was shocked; despite thinking it over for a long time, she couldn’t come up with a suitable connection.

After all, this woman, whom Second Forrest had called the old lady and now addressed as madam, didn’t actually sound that elderly, just deeply tired.

If the voice were a bit younger, Cecilia would think of connecting it to Tyson Law’s mother, Mabel Keaton.

But realistically, if it were Mabel, the enmity between them wasn’t that intense, at least not immediately pressing.

Since the Law Family was still under Frank Law’s management, and if Mabel and Tyson were scheming for inheritance against Cecilia, it wouldn’t be worth it yet, because they hadn’t completely fallen out.

...

"Madam, since we’ve brought you the person, you should give us the remaining one hundred and fifty thousand, and my boss and I will leave. You can handle the rest as you see fit."

"Okay, the money is here."

There was the sound of a suitcase being handed over, and Cecilia felt uneasy, secretly speculating that it was filled with cash.

But what Cecilia didn’t expect was that before the thugs who had tied her up could grab the suitcase, there was a sudden sound of gunshots, execution-style, in the air!

...

Cecilia was very close to the two thugs. Even though she was pretending to be asleep, she couldn’t hold back when the madam turned out to be so ruthless, and Cecilia was startled; this kind of instinctive first reaction was hard to control.

Cecilia jerked suddenly, her eyes snapped open, and although they were dazed at first due to being covered for so long and still being drugged, she could clearly see the two lifeless bodies before her.

"Heh, you little vixen, you were pretending to be asleep after all!"

Cecilia was astonished to hear this, and before she could react, someone suddenly grabbed her neck fiercely.

The madam stared into her eyes; her face, once supposed to be delicate and beautiful, looked terrifyingly aged, whether due to the ravages of time or changes in her mental state. Her hair was a mix of black and white, deep lines creased her eyes, making her look particularly ghastly.

...

The grip wasn’t too strong, but the hatred in her eyes was unmistakable.

Even so, Cecilia felt she could hardly breathe.

"Let... let go..."

She gasped painfully, her black pupils dilating, reflecting the malicious face focused on her, causing her heart to race in fear.

This old woman... didn’t actually seem very old.

She looked to be in her fifties or sixties, but judging from her neck, Cecilia guessed she could be in her forties, except her spirit was so withered, like a fading flower on the verge of collapse.

It was a beauty as withered as dead wood.

Under normal circumstances, Cecilia might have the time to ponder why this woman’s face was filled with enmity, but now that she was the object of that hate, Cecilia had to ask directly.

"Did I... do something to offend you?"

Her tone was very cautious.

She could see that this woman had a jade-like ruthlessness and was very domineering; otherwise, the two thugs who did her bidding wouldn’t have died so gruesomely.

Normally, even if someone wanted to get rid of insiders, they’d wait until they left and find an opportunity in secret.

But this madam was too ruthless.

...

"You don’t remember me?! Heh..."

The old woman looked maliciously at Cecilia’s youthful face, moving her hand away as if she found it repulsive, even brushing off her sleeves.

"My son once really liked you... liked you so much it tore his heart apart."

Was that true?!

Cecilia frowned in shock, vaguely feeling the woman’s features seemed familiar, but she couldn’t remember.

Cecilia, anxious inside, quickly surveyed her surroundings, realizing this place was an ancient-style waterside pavilion.

The decor, for some reason, was all in red, looking extremely festive, with even a bold "double happiness" character stuck on the window lattice.

"Take away these two unsightly corpses and clean up this woman, don’t delay my son’s wedding."

"Wedding?!"

Cecilia caught the word, her eyes suddenly widening.

"What do you mean by that?!"
