Chapter 516: How Ugly the Act of Social Climbing Is

However, before Rosalind White could enjoy her happiness for even half a second, the blonde lady auctioneer suddenly exclaimed in surprise.

"What a coincidence, the esteemed guest in Box No. 1 upstairs also has their eyes on this item, and has bid twenty million!"

The blonde auctioneer glanced playfully at Rosalind White, the amusement at the corners of her lips growing even wider.

"Who would have thought that Bidder No. 107 and the esteemed guest in Box No. 1 upstairs would share such similar taste? Perhaps it’s destiny!"

...

Destiny my foot!

Competing with her again!

How can an elderly couple have such cheeky thoughts, are they insane?!

Rosalind White was so furious her vision went black, nearly fainting on the spot!

Rosalind White reluctantly gazed at these blue diamond rings for a long time, the internal conflict in her heart was indescribable.

She took a deep breath, hesitated for a few seconds and finally raised her paddle.

"No. 107, twenty-one million!"

If that upstairs insane elderly couple knew any better, they’d let her have it this time, right?!

Was taking the previous pair of jade cufflinks not enough?!

...

Just as Rosalind White was seething with hatred, the blonde lady auctioneer subtly glanced again at the electronic communicator in her hand.

She cleared her throat lightly and finally lifted the auction hammer slightly.

"Uh... it seems the esteemed guest upstairs really likes these blue diamond rings as well, they’ve directly bid thirty million!"

This kind of overwhelming bid almost made Rosalind White spit blood in anger.

This time, not only was she bewildered, but even Fiona Vaughn, who hadn’t paid much attention before, tugged at Rosalind White’s sleeve in confusion.

"Rosalind, do you think the guest in the VIP box upstairs is deliberately targeting you? Normally, no one would specifically snatch the same item like this, right!"

Rosalind White took a deep breath, barely keeping her facial expression from cracking.

"I suppose... it shouldn’t be that way. I don’t even know them, and I’ve never offended any elderly couples like this in Stellerton before."

Fiona Vaughn furrowed her delicate brows, initially hoping that by having Rosalind bid, she’d regain some standing for herself.

Considering she’s in the same table as Rosalind, if Rosalind ended up with nothing, wouldn’t she have to go up herself?

Thinking about those collections that cost tens of millions, Fiona Vaughn clutched her heart in pain.

She thought and thought, and finally gave Rosalind a quiet warning.

"Rosalind, is it possible that during your call earlier, you offended them? Some industry bigwigs really don’t like having things snatched away, if that’s the case, maybe you should call them and apologize."

Upon hearing Fiona Vaughn’s suggestion, Rosalind White gritted her teeth, glaring fiercely at Fiona.

"Apologize to them?"

"Absolutely not!"

...

Due to her overwhelming anger, Rosalind White’s voice suddenly rose, attracting quite a few auction attendees to look her way.

Some were even pointing fingers at her.

Sitting next to her, Fiona Vaughn couldn’t help but undergo scrutiny, which irked her immensely.

Her resentment towards Rosalind deepened instantly, and frankly, if Rosalind wasn’t still useful, Fiona would have left long ago.

Even when dealing with someone like Chloe Alden, the mayor’s daughter, she was always held in high esteem, and now to get Rosalind to bleed a little, she’d have to lower herself to a butler’s daughter!

Just because she once saved Adrian Law’s life and happened to be a bit lucky, she has the gall to be prouder than the daughters from prominent families!

Fiona Vaughn having little money to play around with in auctions, especially if Rosalind blundered, she didn’t want to be embarrassed alongside the butler’s daughter, finally whispered in Rosalind’s ear.

"Rosalind, how about you keep bidding here, I’m going upstairs to find a friend."

"Friend?" Rosalind White looked at Fiona Vaughn skeptically: "What friend do you have here?"

Fiona Vaughn coughed lightly.

"I’ve already found out Mr. Adams’ box, as I recall, he and you are alumni from the same Vesperian Ivy League University, right?"

Mr. Adams?!

Rosalind White was taken aback.

Instantly, recent news flashed through her mind.

Mr. Adams is a visiting professor at her alma mater in Vesperia, and this time he’s visiting Veridia and Stellerton University for a cultural exchange.

And Fiona Vaughn is precisely a student at Stellerton University. Seeing Fiona being so restless, Rosalind is no fool like Chloe Alden, she quickly sees through Fiona’s intentions.

"Fiona, are you trying to hitch onto Mr. Adams? In this cultural exchange between the two countries, they’re also selecting ambassadors, are you going to him for this reason?"

Being called out so directly by Rosalind White, Fiona Vaughn couldn’t hold her expression together.

She let out an awkward smile, quickly composing herself with a sincere smile.

"Rosalind, what are you talking about? I’m just admiring Mr. Adams’ talent, I’ve always heard he likes the violin, and I happen to play a bit, so I wanted to see if he’s a kindred spirit."

"But you didn’t bring your violin..."

Rosalind White looked Fiona Vaughn up and down a couple of times, ruthlessly exposing her lie.

She sneered, dismissing Fiona’s claim of finding a musical companion, when in truth isn’t it just pulling strings?

Feeling rather embarrassed, Fiona Vaughn saw Rosalind not pulling any punches, her resentment towards her even deeper, yet it’s not the time to sever ties with her. In the Law Family, Fiona is struggling, beside the child she’s carrying, she can’t afford to lose Rosalind as an ally.

The world is bustling and competitive; though this ally continues to mock her, she has no intention of letting go.

"Rosalind, precisely because I didn’t bring it, I need to schedule an afternoon tea..."

Fiona Vaughn didn’t want to say more, she quickly made her exit.

...

Seeing Fiona’s figure fading into the distance, Rosalind White’s disdain for her grew even more.

The three-minute window was closing, and the auctioneer looked expectantly at Rosalind White.

"Would you like to raise the bid?"

Gazing at the exquisite blue diamond rings, coupled with the thirty million price tag, Rosalind White shook her head, even smiling gracefully, reusing her earlier excuse.

"No need, I’ll let the elderly couple in Box No. 1 have it, there’ll be other opportunities for the younger generation."

The auctioneer nodded, sealing the deal with one final strike of the gavel.

Just when it seemed the matter had concluded, a busybody looked at Rosalind White with interest.

"Never thrice, Miss White, does that mean you won’t let go of the next treasure?"
