Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1697 - 1670: As Far as the Eye Can See, Everlasting—Looks Good, Useless
After leaving that sentence, Daxton Lancaster walked over to the big bed, and when he picked up Robert Lancaster, his demeanor softened, gently rocking him and patiently coaxing him.
"Don’t cry, Robert, Daddy and Mommy are just playing around. Daddy will take you for a ride..."
Daxton Lancaster carried Robert Lancaster out, while Violet Zimmerman remained slumped over the dressing table, maintaining the posture Daxton had left her in. She faced forward, smiled lightly, and tears began to flow.
Violet Zimmerman didn’t go to the elder’s place for dinner, her eyes were red as rabbits’, unwilling to be laughed at.
That evening, Sister Zhang specially steamed egg custard for her. She had overheard Daxton Lancaster lose his temper at Violet, and due to her position, she could only silently do something for Violet, not daring to offer comfort verbally.
Violet Zimmerman forced herself to eat half a bowl of rice; if not for her son’s nourishment, she would have no appetite.
At the elder’s place, Lorelei Howard held her grandson, feeding the little fellow while curiously asking, "Daxton, why didn’t Violet come over?"
Daxton Lancaster smiled faintly, "Violet isn’t feeling well, so I let her rest in the room."
"Hmph! A pretty but useless sickly person, no wonder it took such effort to have a child!" Eva Hayes mocked disdainfully, "Unlike our Victoria, who’s sturdy and good at bearing children!"
Daxton Lancaster cast a cold glance over, and Eva Hayes looked at him indifferently, pouting as if saying her words were nothing but the truth!
At the dining table behind, Aurora Lancaster wrinkled her nose in displeasure at Eva Hayes’ back, while Joseph Lancaster scoffed quietly.
Lorelei Howard and Bodhi Lancaster also looked at Eva Hayes unhappily. As Bodhi Lancaster was an elder brother, despite Eva Hayes’ unworthiness, he couldn’t say much, merely venting his discontent on his son.
"Daxton, you and your wife should assert yourselves! Spare yourselves from being talked about!"
Daxton Lancaster resumed his gentle demeanor, smiling as he ate, "Dad, why are you in a hurry? Robert is only just a year old."
Usually unconcerned with such matters, Bodhi Lancaster was rarely so stern today. Glancing at Eva Hayes, he said pointedly, "I’m not in a hurry! I just don’t want to be trampled underfoot all the time!"
"Eldest, don’t reproach Daxton, my grandson and daughter-in-law have agreed, I’m sure I’ll have another great-grandson before I enter the grave, cough cough..." the elder impatiently intervened, coughing once he finished speaking.
Lately, the elder had been coughing severely, his physical condition worsening.
Eva Hayes slammed her chopsticks down, looking at the elder with dissatisfaction, "Dad, Maximilian and Able are also your great-grandsons. Even if you’re biased, you can’t be so obvious!"
The elder coughed again, and once slightly calmed, he said, "Atlas knows whether I’m biased or not in his own heart."
After saying this, Atlas Lancaster’s hand holding the chopsticks instinctively tightened, his eyes narrowing as he thought, Could it be... does Dad know something? Impossible, he didn’t suspect anything when he brought Daemon back then...
At the dining table behind, Daemon Lancaster’s hand gripped his chopsticks tightly, his lips pressed together, revealing bite marks on the side of his face.
He was the Lancaster family’s eldest grandson, yet in the old man’s eyes, there was only Daxton Lancaster!
In this generation of sons, it remained the same. Clearly his son, Maximilian Lancaster, was the legitimate great-grandson, yet the elder only recognized Daxton’s!
With a snap, Daemon Lancaster’s chopsticks broke, opposite him, Joseph Lancaster, who had been quietly eating, glanced over in confusion.
The sound of breaking chopsticks wasn’t small; it caught the attention of everyone in the Lancaster family.
Victoria Thornton placed her hand on Daemon Lancaster’s back, discreetly shook her head at him, and while gently patting his back, asked with concern, "Daemon, did your old hand cramp act up again? Is it serious?"
His wife had provided a way out, so Daemon Lancaster had to follow suit, pretending to flex his fingers. "It’s nothing, it’s much better now."
