Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1562 - 1553: Wherever One’s Gaze Reaches, There Lasts Eternity: Daxton Lancaster Shows His Might
"Ha, who are you trying to scare? We’ve all set up our own businesses, who’d still be under your control!"
Eva Hayes sneered, knowing she shouldn’t be speaking like this in front of the Old Master and Daxton Lancaster, the Family Head. Atlas Lancaster didn’t intend to intervene, let alone reprimand.
The Old Master sat upright at the head, casting a cold glance at the couple, showing displeasure in his expression. He knew his eldest grandson would handle it well, so he didn’t voice any criticism.
Violet Zimmerman lowered her gaze, truly unable to admire such interactions among Lancaster Family relatives. An educated woman, even if displeased, wouldn’t openly show it.
Daxton Lancaster’s eyes narrowed and then suddenly widened, a slight curve appeared on his lips, and he said casually, "Since Aunt Eva’s family has established their own household, then move out, so you’re not under my control."
"Why? This Lancaster Family isn’t yours alone!"
Eva Hayes slammed the table and stood up, emboldened by the profits their factory and business had generated. Before, although there was no lack of food and drink, financial authority was managed by Daxton Lancaster, the Family Head.
The servant, who was arranging dishes, hadn’t placed the enamel bowl securely on the table, startled by Eva Hayes’ sudden table slam, making a clatter on the tabletop.
Thankfully, the height was low, only spilling a bit of soup.
The servant repeatedly apologized and quickly retreated.
"Enough!" The Old Master also slammed the table, glaring at the often troublesome daughter-in-law, and reprimanded displeasedly.
"Atlas, control your wife!"
Atlas Lancaster feigned pulling at Eva Hayes’ collar, "What are you fussing about so early in the morning? Finish your meal; we have to go to the factory."
"Hey, Atlas Lancaster, are you a man or not?" Eva Hayes turned, hands on hips, looking unreasonable at Atlas Lancaster.
"They’re trying to drive us out, and you don’t even dare to speak up!"
Listening to the sister-in-law speak so roughly, Arthur Saunders sighed and shook his head. Lorelei Howard also derisively snorted.
At the rear table, Aurora Lancaster was infuriated, blaming her brother for not showcasing the authority of the Lancaster Family Head.
Eva Hayes’ three sons appeared indifferent, thinking their mother was the elder, so Daxton Lancaster wouldn’t dare to do anything regardless of her antics.
Daxton Lancaster, who had been silent, finally spoke, resting a hand on the table, looking at Eva Hayes across as if witnessing a public scolding. He said sharply, "Uncle, Aunt Eva, today I, Daxton Lancaster, will say it clearly: If you want to be free, then move out!"
At this point, Daxton Lancaster paused, his phoenix eyes narrowing, voice turning fierce.
"If you wish to continue living in this residence, then you must listen to me, Daxton Lancaster!"
Daxton Lancaster’s words were resolute; Eva Hayes wanted to continue her unreasonable antics but was restrained by her husband, Atlas Lancaster.
To succeed as the Family Head, Daxton Lancaster naturally had his skills, punishing and rewarding decisively, regardless of whether the offender was a senior family member.
Atlas Lancaster had suffered from this before.
Counted on being a senior, speaking recklessly, he was held accountable, and his eldest son, Daemon Lancaster, paid the price with family punishment, leaving his left leg permanently injured.
Atlas Lancaster truly feared his unsociable nephew, especially witnessing Daxton Lancaster genuinely angry.
The Lancaster Family’s property ledger is guarded by Lady Violet Zimmerman, and since the two are a married couple, even legally challenging them would be fruitless.
Moreover, the Old Master clearly showed support for the main branch.
Eva Hayes unwillingly sat on the chair; this familiar scenario never changed. Each time she tried to cause trouble, Daxton Lancaster’s authority brought her in line.
Seeing the second branch quiet down, the Old Master concluded, "If you wish to continue living here, you all better behave, or move out yourselves!"
The meal was eaten in silence, even Lorelei Howard didn’t dare to glare discontentedly at her daughter-in-law. After the meal, Atlas Lancaster’s family left, leaving the main branch behind.
"Daughter-in-law, where is Joseph? Why didn’t he come for the meal?"
The Old Master asked, mentioning Joseph Lancaster’s name. Violet Zimmerman turned uncomfortably, covering her mouth and coughing lightly.
Daxton Lancaster’s expression didn’t change, gently patting her back, while Lorelei Howard respectfully replied.
"Joseph said he had an early class; he rode his bicycle to school earlier today."
"I’m running late too; I must go."
Aurora Lancaster stood up dramatically, waving to several, "Grandpa, Mom and Dad, you chat, I’m off to school."
"This child, not steady at all."
Lorelei Howard frowned helplessly, as Aurora Lancaster made a face at her mother, pulling the door handle before exiting, saying, "Big Brother and Sister-in-law, you two should strive harder, also for Dad and Mom’s sake!"
"Off you go, you’re going to be late for school."
Daxton Lancaster unusually didn’t anger, smiling as he sent his sister away, just turning back when the Old Master spoke up.
"My grandson’s wife still hasn’t shown any signs?"
Violet Zimmerman lowered her head nervously; Daxton Lancaster struck a similar gesture, with one hand resting on Violet’s chair and the other on her lower abdomen, a curve on his lips.
"Grandpa, Mom and Dad, don’t worry, for the past few days, Violet and I have been trying diligently, I guarantee a month won’t pass without good news."
After Daxton Lancaster spoke, Violet Zimmerman lowered her head further; earlier it was from nervosity, now it was from embarrassment.
Discussing such matters in front of elders was considered taboo in those days.
"Since my grandson says so, I’ll await the good news!" The Old Master smiled widely, stroking his beard, then told Lorelei Howard, "Daughter-in-law, you treat Violet well; you weren’t pregnant until a year after you married and had Daxton."
"Got it, Dad."
Lorelei Howard glanced at Violet Zimmerman; she recalled her struggle to conceive due to health issues, later seeking a doctor to prescribe herbal medicine for a year before successfully getting pregnant.
