Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1552 - 1544: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Begins Eternity: Too Afraid to Look at Big Brother
Atlas Lancaster was more astute than his wife Eva Hayes. The last time they had an argument, the old man’s attitude was clear; if she picked another fight, they might actually get kicked out.
It’s not that he couldn’t support the family; nearly ten people in the family, old and young, and the cost of food for a year would amount to quite a bit. Since he can save, why should he pay out of his own pocket?
Eva gave Atlas a defiant glare and sulkily continued with her meal.
The cook emerged from the back kitchen with egg custard, placed inside an enamel basin wrapped in several towels. When she pushed the door open, she saw Joseph Lancaster skulking at the door and asked curiously.
"Second Young Master, what are you doing hiding outside? It’s breakfast time."
"Hehe, I know." Joseph laughed awkwardly and scratched his head.
Daxton Lancaster continued eating breakfast with his head down, showing little reaction.
Being younger and thin-skinned, his brother’s reaction after what happened last night seemed normal. If he acted like nothing happened, that would be more thought-provoking.
"Joseph, why are you so late? We’re almost done with breakfast." Lorelei Howard said with a slightly reproachful tone. Joseph scratched his head again and laughed awkwardly, "Dad, Mom, I overslept."
Feeling guilty, Joseph tried his best not to look at his older brother Daxton, but even seeing Daxton’s back made him very anxious.
Although his sister-in-law said it was his brother’s idea, but... he did that thing with her after all.
The young man felt a sense of betrayal towards his brother Daxton.
"Stop laughing and sit down quickly to eat."
Lorelei furtively glanced at the old man, and since he showed no sign of rebuke, she urged her son to sit down quickly.
Joseph walked over to his seat and sat down. The cook brought out the rice, placed the bowl, and went back to the kitchen.
"Aunt Guo, from tomorrow, cook two eggs every morning for the Second Young Master. He’s tired from studying and needs the nourishment."
Joseph...
The chopsticks he just picked up dropped to the floor with a clatter. Under the puzzled gaze of Daemon and his brothers, he bent down to pick them up.
"Big brother is so biased!" Aurora Lancaster unhappily placed her rice bowl on the table, pouting with dissatisfaction.
"I study late every night, more tiresome than the second brother, why don’t you instruct the cook to make eggs for me!"
Daxton slightly raised his head, picked up the remaining half bowl of rice, and smiled, "Alright, Aurora is tired too, I’ll have the cook make two more eggs tomorrow."
"Victoria is pregnant, make two eggs for her too!" Eva interjected, unwilling to be left out. Daxton gave her a bland look but didn’t oppose.
The breakfast was unsettling for Joseph; he constantly felt that his older brother Daxton was secretly watching him. While shoveling food into his mouth, he kept sneaking glances backward, though he saw nothing, he couldn’t help but keep looking.
Not wanting to go back with his brother Daxton, Joseph deliberately ate slowly, especially since he arrived late. Everyone else had finished breakfast, yet he continued lingering at the table.
Daxton knew his brother was doing it on purpose, so he greeted the old man and left. Hearing the door close behind him, Joseph clearly breathed a sigh of relief.
Despite feeling nervous, his appetite this morning was unusually good. Normally, two bowls of rice were enough, but this morning he ate three.
After eating his fill, the young man slumped in his chair, closed his eyes, and a smile played on his lips.
