Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1534 - 1526: Wherever My Eyes Land, There Shall Be Everlasting Love: A Certain Spot on My Chest Was Struck
After a bout of lecturing, Aurora Lancaster reluctantly followed her older brother, Daxton Lancaster, back, leaving Joseph Lancaster alone in the ward to take care of Violet Zimmerman.
Joseph Lancaster sat on the nurse’s chair next to the hospital bed, slicing the peeled apple into segments like an orange.
The teenager’s long fingers handed a piece to Violet Zimmerman, "Sister-in-law, have a piece of apple."
Looking at the small piece held by the teenager’s fingers, Violet Zimmerman hesitated for a moment, pursed her lips, then took it with her uninjured hand and brought it to her lips, taking a small bite.
"Sister-in-law, isn’t it tasty? I went a long way by car to buy this Red Fuji, much tastier than that bag of Guoguang apples you have!"
Joseph Lancaster’s face showed pride, like a child asking an adult for praise.
Although only two years younger than Violet Zimmerman, the teenager, always studying, still had the essence of an immature child.
Violet Zimmerman forced a slight smile, "It tastes good."
The feelings in her heart were known only to herself.
That bag of Guoguang apples was brought over by her mother-in-law, along with a few oranges. Although, in those days, when some families were still worrying about hunger, buying fruit was already a luxury, it was incomparable to the bag of fruit brought by Joseph Lancaster.
The fruit Joseph Lancaster brought wasn’t much, just three varieties: several large and round Red Fuji apples, a bunch of yellow bananas, and a bunch of grapes. Yet at the time, they were rarely seen.
"Of course!" The teenager’s face showed even more pride, his chin raised arrogantly. He handed another piece of apple to Violet Zimmerman, "Sister-in-law, have another piece. I’ll go wash some grapes for you."
Looking at the smiling eyebrows of the teenager, Violet Zimmerman’s mind was filled with thoughts of her husband, Daxton Lancaster.
The two brothers looked very similar. Joseph Lancaster was more youthful and studious than his older brother.
When she first got married, her husband Daxton Lancaster was also gentle like this, with sharp brows and phoenix eyes and fair skin, like an educated scholar. But now...
Violet Zimmerman lowered her eyes. Even though the Fuji apples were delicious, she found them tasteless.
"Sister-in-law, look at you, just like a little cat! A grown-up taking so long to eat a piece of apple, hurry and finish it in one go, then eat this piece too. I’ll wash some grapes for you and then go to the canteen to get some food."
The teenager urged impatiently, but Violet Zimmerman knew he cared about her.
Somewhere in her heart was hit hard, her heart swaying with the impact.
She put the small piece of apple entirely into her mouth and took the piece handed over by Joseph Lancaster.
Joseph Lancaster placed the remaining half of the apple in the fruit bowl and took some grapes from the net bag, walking toward the door. Watching the teenager’s back, Violet Zimmerman tightly pursed her lips.
When Joseph Lancaster returned after washing the grapes, there was an additional middle-aged woman in the sick room. Although he had only seen her twice, Joseph Lancaster recognized her.
He walked in with a smile and politely greeted the middle-aged woman.
"Hello, Auntie, when did you get here?"
"Violet, who is he..."
Ophelia Williams looked puzzled at the approaching teenager, feeling familiar but unable to recall where she had seen him.
"Mom, he’s Daxton’s younger brother."
"Oh, now I remember. He was the best man at your wedding to Daxton, no wonder he looks so familiar. So he’s Daxton’s brother."
Ophelia Williams stood up, conversing with a smile with Joseph Lancaster, "You two brothers really look alike!"
Joseph Lancaster smiled, placed the freshly washed grapes into the fruit bowl, and handed it to Ophelia Williams.
"Auntie, please, have some. I heard they were picked just this morning, very fresh."
Looking at the Kyoho grapes presented to her, Ophelia Williams couldn’t stop smiling.
"Violet, Daxton really treats you well, these grapes are quite expensive, this bunch costs over ten yuan!"
Violet Zimmerman forced a tug at the corner of her lips, her expression appearing unnatural.
