Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Arriving in Zhang City! I Want to See You, I Only Want to See You
Gu Yifan happened to see this. He froze for a moment, then asked curiously, "Su Hanhan, what were you just doing?"
"N-Nothing."
Su Qinghe said with a straight face.
"Hm?"
Gu Yifan’s brow furrowed slightly, but he didn’t dwell on it. He handed the heaping bowl of rice to Su Qinghe and said softly, "Well... let’s eat first."
"Ah?"
Staring at the bowl piled high with rice in front of her, Su Qinghe was in a difficult spot. "This... this is too much. I won’t be able to finish it. It’ll be a waste."
"Oh, it’s fine. You eat first. If you can’t finish it, just give it to me!"
Gu Yifan waved his hand dismissively, a nonchalant look on his face.
Su Qinghe: "???"
...
At six o’clock in the evening, Gu Yifan and Su Qinghe finally reached the Zhang City tollgate.
Given the late hour, Gu Yifan decided it was best to spend the night in the city and head to Su Qinghe’s village the next morning. Her family’s old house was in a small village in a county under Zhang City’s jurisdiction, and since it had been uninhabited for years, it was no longer livable.
After passing through the tollgate, Gu Yifan found a spot to pull over and look up hotel information on his phone.
"Su Hanhan, let’s just stay in the city tonight and go to your hometown tomorrow morning."
Gu Yifan said casually, turning to Su Qinghe while searching for hotels in Zhang City.
"Mhm, okay."
Su Qinghe had no objections and nodded.
After looking for a bit, Gu Yifan found that there was only one three-star hotel nearby, located by the sea. So, he once again booked a suite.
’What else could I do!’
’If I didn’t book a suite, I’m afraid I really wouldn’t be able to control myself!’
"Alright, let’s head to the hotel to drop our stuff off, then I’ll take you out to eat!"
Gu Yifan said, putting down his phone.
With that, he started the car again and drove toward the hotel, following the GPS directions.
At six-thirty in the evening, Gu Yifan and Su Qinghe successfully checked in.
After dropping off their luggage and tidying up a bit, Gu Yifan booked a table at a sea-view restaurant and took Su Qinghe out.
Su Qinghe had been thinking that they had already spent a lot of money on the road over the past two days and wanted to just find a casual place to eat. But there was no way Gu Yifan would agree to that!
With his silver tongue and incredible glibness, a one-two punch of persuasion left Su Qinghe completely bewildered.
Watching the dazed look on Su Qinghe’s face as she nodded uncontrollably, Gu Yifan couldn’t help but find it amusing.
’This Hanhan has gotten a little smarter, but not by much!’
When they arrived at the restaurant, Gu Yifan felt the money was definitely well spent.
The massive, crystal-clear, floor-to-ceiling windows offered an unobstructed view of the sea outside. The sounds of piano music and waves crashing on the beach blended together. Paired with the delicious food, it was truly an ultimate feast for the eyes, ears, and palate.
Gu Yifan nodded in satisfaction.
Su Qinghe was also very pleased with it all, but being used to a frugal lifestyle, she still felt it was too expensive.
But she could never win an argument against Gu Yifan.
’It was just like that famous saying: life is like rape; if you can’t resist, you might as well enjoy it!’
’No choice!’
’If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!’
’She could only enjoy it in silence!’
...
A short while later, the piano music in the restaurant suddenly stopped.
The pianist rushed out of the restaurant, his lightning-fast dash making one wonder if he’d eaten some bad seafood and had an upset stomach.
Without the piano music, the atmosphere in the entire restaurant felt a bit strange, as if something was missing.
Gu Yifan couldn’t help but frown.
After a moment of thought, Gu Yifan looked up at Su Qinghe, who was nibbling on a cheese and lobster ball, and asked, "Su Hanhan, do you want to hear me sing again?"
Su Qinghe’s eyes lit up. She looked at Gu Yifan with anticipation and asked, "The... the one from last time?"
"Hm?"
Gu Yifan was taken aback for a second, but he quickly understood what Su Qinghe meant.
He smiled slightly. "This time it’s piano. I’ll sing something different!"
"Oh, okay."
A flash of disappointment crossed Su Qinghe’s eyes, but she hid it well.
Gu Yifan didn’t say anything more. He waved over a young waiter, whispered something in his ear, and the waiter, after a moment of surprise, nodded hurriedly and made a welcoming gesture with his hand.
Gu Yifan said to Su Qinghe, "Hanhan, I’ll be right back!"
"Mhm."
Su Qinghe didn’t speak, simply nodding obediently.
Gu Yifan nodded and, without another word, followed the young waiter toward the piano.
BZZZT—
The young waiter picked up the microphone and said, "Next up, let’s welcome Mr. Gu, who will be playing the piano and singing a song for us!"
"Mr. Gu would like to dedicate this song to his companion, Ms. Su Qinghe. Let’s give them a round of applause!"
CLAP CLAP CLAP— CLAP CLAP CLAP—
As soon as the waiter finished speaking, the commotion drew the attention of the other diners in the restaurant. All eyes turned curiously toward Gu Yifan, but everyone was courteous enough to applaud.
Seeing this, Gu Yifan showed no signs of stage fright. He gave a slight bow to the crowd, then walked over to the piano and sat down.
"Huuuh..."
He took a deep breath, recalling the song’s melody in his mind. Then he moved, his long, slender fingers gliding across the piano keys.
A crisp, pleasant melody from the piano filled the entire restaurant.
"Ooh?"
The intro made everyone’s eyes light up.
’Not bad!’
’This handsome guy has some real skill. No wonder he dared to go up on stage and perform!’
Many people thought to themselves.
Just then, Gu Yifan began to sing: [When love becomes a lost relic, carved into memory like a hieroglyph, to miss you through the centuries, is a feeling etched deep in my heart.]
His deep voice made everyone in the room’s eyes go wide once again.
[If I could return to the Ice Age, how I’d long to hold you tight. Your smile is so healing, it awakens life itself.]
[A world without you is a desolate landscape, like a ruin, a lost civilization. Could a miracle, a sliver of hope, let us meet once more?]
[I want to see you, I only want to see you. In the future, in the past, I only want to see you. Crossing thousands of timelines, to be with you in a sea of people...]
...
Su Qinghe rested her chin in her hands, her eyes shining as she watched Gu Yifan sing and play with deep emotion at the piano. In that moment, it was as if he was the only person left in her world.
Looking at this outstanding young man before her, who excelled in every way, she suddenly felt that she needed to work harder too, or she would truly be left behind.
Just then, Gu Yifan sang the final line of the song.
[Could it be that you, just like me, are waiting for the words ’I do’...?]
