When Selene walked into his chambers, she was surprised to find Cassian dressed despite how late at night it was.

Usually, he’d be in a small shirt and pants or maybe wearing a robe, getting ready to have a bath and go to sleep. Right now, he was fully dressed like his day was just starting.

Selene stood by the door, watching Cassian carefully. She’d never been able to read this man’s mood ever since they were young because he’d mastered the art of hiding whatever he felt behind the smug look and relaxed expression that gave nothing away.

These days, things were a lot different.

Della.

She was the cause of this change.

"What mission are you on tonight?" She asked, taking slow, deliberate steps closer to her. Even though she knew he wouldn’t hurt her, it didn’t hurt to remain cautious around him.

"What are you doing here?" He snapped at her, "LEAVE!"

She flicked a little bit, then she relaxed back and allowed a forced, yet soft smile to fall on her features. One thing she’d always been confident in herself was her smile that usually made even Alphas do a double-take.

"Please, don’t tell me you’re going to take away the Rotblood,"

Cassian flexed both hands slowly, "You’ve been doing everything you wanted. Why?" He glared at her, "Are you here to stop me?!"

She shrugged, "I’m still thinking about it. I mean, preparations are underway for tomorrow and everyone has worked so hard for it. You can’t just—"

"Shut up, Selene!" He snapped again, still flexing his hands like he was preparing them for something extremely hard, "Tell me why you are here. The sooner you do, the faster you leave,"

She crossed her arms over her chest, watching his face. She could hardly believe the way her body was already reacting to his presence as she recalled how his fingers had been buried deep inside of her the other night.

Her panties were already dampened, and as a part of her hoped he wouldn’t smell her arousal, the other seriously wished he would soon.

"I came here because I’m having a slight problem," She involuntarily took a step closer to him, almost like she couldn’t help herself anymore.

Like, this was the same man she had grown up with. The person she had seen almost every day of her life!

And yet now, ever since that night, something had changed. Something she still couldn’t wrap her head around.

"A slight problem?" His brow shot up.

"Yes," She took another step, "Beatrice seems to also have her eyes on Malachi, and she’s been gaining the favour of the lowborns around the castle and the Pack...and as insignificant as it may sound...it hinders what I do and how I move,"

Cassian didn’t say anything.

"She could turn my spies against each other. Make people that were never a threat or who I never saw as anything start to keep an eye on me all the time. They would become her eyes and ears, and it’s only a matter of time before she learns about the truth...and Nightveil is forced to pay the price,"

And that last part was the part which irked Cassian the most. Because Selene knew very well that all this, once she was caught, wouldn’t just backfire on her alone, but on the entire Pack.

War would happen!!

Innocents would lose their lives.

But she had somehow managed to convince herself, using her filthy dark heart, that it was worth the risk.

Because that was just how deep-rooted her obsession with Malachi was. And how far she would go, just to get rid of anyone that stood in the way between her...and him.

"You need to do something about her, Alpha," She added, saying ’Alpha’ to him like she was trying to remind him of his obligations.

"Selene,"

That one word had her nerves stiffened, electricity coursing through her. She couldn’t quite decide if it had scared her, or turned her the fuck on even more.

Shit...what the hell was wrong with her?!

Cassian finally stood up and turned his head in her direction. The candles in the room didn’t glow as brightly, and the light could only reach so far. Hence, dark shadows fell on his eyes, making his silver eyes glow in the dark.

Selene stood there, mesmerised.

The sight only caused her panties to dampen even further.

"ARE. YOU. OUT. OF. YOUR. FUCKING. MIND?" His voice was low, but the roar she felt in them was mighty.

Well, that was very much expected.

"You worked with Beatrice, and you finally succeeded in condemning an innocent woman, who has been locked for over two days with no food or water. You constantly poisoned the heart of a man who was trying to find his way out of the darkness always clouding his judgement, just to keep him away from her, because you couldn’t control your obsession. And now...after everything you’ve done, after every wicked decision you’ve instigated...you ask for my help?!"

Selene felt the urge to turn around and leave the room. The way the candles kept flickering uncontrollably right now was the biggest clue given, but she remained standing.

Cassian wouldn’t hurt her.

"Like I said before, if Malachi learns about what I’ve done, Nightveil would be deeply affected. Beatrice has only a little to lose, especially if she succeeds in shutting my mouth before I can say a word about her. At this point, you’re the only one I can turn to,"

Cassian muttered a very heavy curse under his breath, one that made her cringe. She could feel how disturbed and angry he was feeling toward everything, especially with Della’s situation.

So, it wasn’t just Malachi that Della had managed to wrap around her finger.

Selene could only wonder how a rotblood like her had managed to make the two most powerful men, across all territories, now possess significant weak spots for her.

A skill she desperately wanted to learn.

"Cassian," She swallowed and took another step closer to him.

Right now, she was so close that she could feel the power of his eyes piercing into her soul, could feel the energy around him pouncing against each other.

She slowly reached out, trembling as she went, hoping he wouldn’t push her away, or worse? Snap her neck.

Her palm brushed against his cheek, so light she only felt the sharp tickle of his beard, "Cassian," She said softly, "I know I’ve been putting you in a tough spot... but I’m your sister. Siblings do that to each other all the time, right?"

He glared harder, but he didn’t push her away.

With that, she let her palms settle more on his face, "You need to stop Beatrice and you need to stop her soon," She drew in a deep breath as she said the next words, "Della is a rotblood, and sooner or later, she’s already bound to die horribly. But Nightveil is destined for greatness, and you cannot keep wasting your time on such a...curse like her."
