Moonfire Bride: The One they all betrayed...till she awakened
Chapter 200: Secret Letters??
No.
No!
It couldn’t be!
What the hell were they all doing here?
The missing crates of Iron that were supposed to have been sent to Stormvale, along with the pure Iron that they complained had been replaced with the impure ones. The one that had caused the negotiation to fail and for Alpha Zanthros to cut them off.
And that wasn’t all.
Next to the Iron were the missing crates of supplies that should have been sent to the Eastern villages of IronRidge. The one Evangeline was in charge of.
All the blood drained off Jaime’s face as everyone slowly turned back to him. He could feel his blood turning to ice under everyone’s cold gaze, but he wasn’t going to just accept this.
"I have been framed!" He yelled, eyes fixed on his father’s, "I do not know how all this got here, Father. I do not,"
Even Evangeline looked confused now, and was staring at her son like he was a monster, "Jaime...?"
"Mother, you know I would never do such a thing," He defended himself and dragged himself closer to her. They tried to stop him, but he managed to shake them off and crawled over to his mother, "I would never do something like that to you,"
Evangeline knew her son would never, but the evidence was right there in front of everyone’s eyes. She’d suffered so much because of these missing goods for weeks!
"Why are you begging your mother?" Augustus asked, his eyes darker than before, "The both of you planned this. Just admit you stole from the Pack and made everyone suffer because of your actions!"
"Father!" Jaime cried again and pushed up on both knees, "You have to believe me. I didn’t take all this for myself."
"Of course you didn’t take it for yourself. You took it for both of you,"
Evangeline and Jaime stared up at the Alpha, confused as hell. Why does he keep trying to imply that Evangeline also had a hand in this when the storage room belonged to Jaime and Jaime alone had the key!
"Augustus, this is beginning to go too far." Evangeline spat angrily, "I am your Luna, and your wife. I have served this pack for many years. Why are you trying to drag me into this when I clearly don’t have a hand in it?"
"Oh..." Augustus glared spitefully at her, "You have a hand in many, many things!"
Then, he extended his hand to his beta, and the wolf placed a wax-sealed record in it.
Then, Augustus opened it and barked it before everyone’s eyes.
IRONRIDGE SUPPLY RECORD
By order of Luna Evangeline, the following supplies were released from the Main storage house for delivery to the villages of Eastern IronRidge:
One hundred crates of grain and fifty crates of dried meat.
However, thirty crates of grain and twenty crates of dried meat were requested to be withheld from the eastern delivery and transferred into the private storage of Sir. Jaime.
The withheld supplies were to remain under Sir Jaime’s authority until further instruction from the Luna.
Iron designated for the Stormvale exchange is likewise to be removed from the main iron stores and transferred secretly into Sir Jaime’s private storehouse. The movement of these goods is to be kept from the pack until the goods are called for.
Jaime and Evangeline looked...white from shock now.
And the worst thing about all this was that below the write-up...was their signature.
Jaime’s signature. Evangeline’s signature.
Then, the Luna’s seal.
"This is impossible!" She screamed up at the Alpha, slowly losing her mind, "It’s obviously forged! Someone is framing us!"
"It’s authentic, woman!" Augustus snapped back, "I checked many, many times! Not a single letter was forged!"
"Then tell me who gave you that record! That person framed me! We have been framed!"
Jaime was still staring at the record with his lips parted. He’d blinked many times and probably pinched himself a lot more.
This has to be a joke. Or a dream. Or just... something else.
Because why does this keep happening to him?!
"You know, Evangeline...I would have forgiven you for everything you did." Augustus continued, his voice taking on a crueller note, like there was something bigger coming, "You’ve served this pack well, and this betrayal of yours would have easily been forgiven. Till I decided to dig a little deeper into what you have been up to these days,"
"What do you mean?" A terribly bad feeling crawled up Evangeline’s spine.
And then, Alpha Augustus raised a hand, and someone else was dragged forward by two guards. The person looked battered to the bone, blood dripping from his nose and lips.
He was so beaten up that he looked almost unrecognisable.
Once he was close enough, Evangeline finally recognised him.
It was Kent.
"You know him, don’t you?" Augustus asked when he saw the recognition flash in her eyes. "The council asked you to pick the new commander of the eleventh division two weeks ago, and you handpicked this wolf right here,"
Evangeline didn’t like where this was going at all,
"You picked this wolf...and you secretly had him send and receive letters for you from Clawfang,"
"What??!" Evangeline boomed and sprang back on her feet so fast that the guards holding her down didn’t stand a chance anymore. "What is that supposed to mean?!"
Augustus stepped forward till he was glaring down at her, making her wolf cower, "It means that you have been spying on us for Clawfang all this time!"
"I have not!"
"Yes, you have! Admit it, woman!"
"I will not admit to something I didn’t do!"
"Then how do you explain these letters that were found in his room?" Augustus roared, and then he threw his hand up, scattering a whole bunch of brown envelopes all around them.
They rained down from the skies, and Evangeline stared at every single one like they each represented a nightmare coming true.
Everyone quickly picked up one and opened the letter. The moment they saw the content, gasps carried through them dramatically, and they began staring at Evangeline again with even more hatred than before.
She looked at them, saw the look on their faces, and fear gripped her heart.
Then, she bent over and picked up the envelope under her feet. Her hands trembled as she opened and saw the written message in it.
Her handwriting. Specifically.
In this letter, she was telling them all the weak points in the Pack’s borders and had given them the specific time they were supposed to attack to save more losses on their side.
And again, under the writing...was her freaking signature!
"Mother...," Jaime drawled in disbelief, and her dumbfounded face turned over to see that he was also staring down at an open letter in front of him.
And when he raised his head, he had the same look in his eyes as everyone else.
That looks hit her so hard, and Evangeline suddenly felt like she was suffocating.
"Are you really... working with Clawfang?"
