Beatrice returned to her room after another long day of walking around the castle in a beautiful dress and sticking that annoying warm smile on her face.

Her jaw hurts from all those hours of talking and laughing and pretending she enjoyed Emmett’s jokes.

The wedding had been set in the next five days, and preparations were already underway. After the wedding, she would leave for Riverrock with her husband and his father.

Disgusted, she picked up a paper and a feather and started to scribble on it. She’d yet to even open a single letter that arrived from Eclipse Crown every day from Leopold.

There were so many that they almost filled a whole sack.

The contents of her letter were quite simple:

~ I’m being forced to marry Emmett of Riverrock in five days for an alliance. After the wedding, I know Conan would try something. I need you to be there. I want you to kill him. With Conan dead, Emmett would pose much of a problem for us. I can count on you, right?

Beatrice, your love~

She then packaged the writing properly and walked to her door. Opening it, Kent was already waiting.

"My lady," He greeted, "You summoned me,"

She looked at the new commander of the twelfth division her mother had chosen and titled a few days ago, "I want this to reach Alpha Leopold before I wed Sir Emmett," She whispered.

Kent accepted the letter, "I’ll make sure it gets to him, unfailingly, my lady,"

He bowed once, and then he was gone.

Then, she stood there for a while, thinking and staring at nothing in particular. She knew Leopold would come and help her without question. Love has made him that stupid. If Conan died, it wouldn’t hurt the alliance in any way. He was due for death anyways.

Just then, Beatrice caught the sound of her mother’s footsteps passing by. She peeked out of her room again, but she didn’t see her.

Her mother was deeply bothered by what had happened yesterday with the altered number of grains. Beatrice had heard her and Jaime talking about how someone had been messing with them and making the Alpha doubt their worth.

How the person was stripping away their authority and making the citizens question their loyalty.

But at the same time, they also questioned if they were hallucinating. Because as much as they argued it in their heads, nothing seemed out of place.

The seals, signatures and the rest were unquestionably theirs. Nothing was forged. Nothing was cancelled. Nothing was copied. Everything was intact and perfect.

And that was making them feel like they were losing their minds.

They had better not lose their minds now.

Beatrice closed her door and walked back into her room. She sat down on her bed and sighed, going back to massaging her jaws. Maybe she would feign illness tomorrow so she wouldn’t have to punish her jaws tomorrow.

She lay back on the bed and spread her arms. But the moment she did, her right hand touched something that shouldn’t be there.

Her brows furrowed when it brushed against it, and then she turned to her side to see what it was.

Beatrice froze for a good ten seconds the moment she saw what it was.

It was...the wooden horse doll.

What the hell was it doing on her bed again after she’d told Vera to throw it away?! And the craziest part? It didn’t look broken at all.

Beatrice swallowed as she sat up, never taking her eyes off the doll. Slowly, she reached over, picked up the doll and started to examine it.

It was the same one from the other day, and it looked like it had been glued back together.

Her eyes shifted to the belly area, and her hands trembled as she recalled the words that had been written there before, Miss me?

Only this time...the words had been scraped off and something else...was written there instead.

It was longer this time, smaller, but it was still readable. She was afraid to read them, but she did...and the words made Beatrice’s eyes go pale.

Think you can escape it?!

I’ll make sure Conan fucks you!

The moment she read it, horror gnawed through her veins and she threw the doll across the room. It smashed against the wall hard, but this time...it didn’t break.

It fell on its back and the cold, empty eyes of the doll looked like it was staring at her. She stared back at it with her claws already stretched out her nails, her mind still reeling.

When it didn’t move like she thought it would, she started to frantically look around her room as though whoever had scraped those words on it was still here.

There was no scent.

Nothing.

Her heart was still pounding. Who could it be?!

The only people who were in on this plan were Jaime and Evangeline and none of them would do this to her. Which means... someone else knew.

She kept looking around the room, but there was no one there. Just her.

Just as her mind was beginning to calm down again, and her claws were starting to retract, her gaze fell on the doll again and what she saw...made her scream.

The damn thing was suddenly... standing again!!

It was freaking standing and staring at her!

The scream shot out of her mouth, and her legs moved fast. She threw the doors open and ran out of her chambers like she was being pursued.

She didn’t care about dignity or pride or whatever it is an Alpha’s daughter was always supposed to carry each time she was amongst people.

All Beatrice could see was the fucking horse doll!

She wasn’t even five steps away from her chambers when she ran into someone’s sturdy chest. The momentum had her stumbling backwards, and she was going to fall.

Large arms wrapped around her small waist and reeled her back once again to that same chest. Her palms gripped his biceps through his clothes...and the first thing she realised was that these kinds of clothing... belonged to someone of very high status.

An Alpha.

Her head snapped up quickly, and there was his face.

And a very creepy grin.

Alpha Conan.
