Moonfire Bride: The One they all betrayed...till she awakened
Chapter 152: The Mask Falls
Selene stared at him, and she just kept staring with those same eyes, now searching for the man she had known for years. The man who used to listen to her. The man who had trusted her judgment. The man whose gaze had always softened whenever it landed on her.
He wasn’t there anyone, and the realisation settled over her with strange finality.
The Malachi who had trusted her, and believed every carefully constructed lie she fed him had disappeared somewhere along the way. And Selene did not feel even the slightest pang of guilt.
The tears stopped and the trembling ceased. She already knew this man was changing ever since Della walked into his life, and although she didn’t want it to end like this...she simply couldn’t keep up with all this nonsense.
It’s already written all over his face that he already knows the answer to the question he just asked, and if she tried to run away...it would only confirm that.
If she tried to lie, whatever this... substance in the air was would make her eventually tell the truth.
So she didn’t fucking care anymore!
She thought always pretending to be innocent would eventually make him chose her. He had chosen her once, before he went for that wedding and came back with that Rotblood monster! And with all that has happened, Selene understood something clearly now.
In his eyes, she would always be second place.
And she was never going to settle for second-place. She would rather become the enemy, and take down the whole Eclipse Crown Pack with her before she ever settles down for that nonsense!
With that being said, she slowly released his robes and straightened herself up till she was standing on both feet. All that practiced soft look vanished completely, and Malachi watched as the look disappeared also and what scared back at him were the eyes of a scheming woman.
"Yes." Selene replied. "I killed your former rotblooded wife."
A murmur swept through the chamber, but Selene didn’t care.
"I killed her," she repeated, her voice strangely calm now. "And if you’re asking because you want me to beg for forgiveness, I won’t."
Malachi said nothing.
Selene smiled at him, and it wasn’t the gentle smile he had known. It carried this cold, brutal energy in them, that curled around her skin and pulsed with every word she said.
"Why should I feel guilty though?" Selene crossed her arms, "Katherine was a goddamn Rotblood, Alpha. A woman like that is not fit to stand beside someone like you...," She paused and sneered, staring him straight in the eye, "And after the events of that night...the ritual she carried out to extract your wolf and leave you powerless...how she killed your daughter...and the explosion afterward, she deserved to die!" Her eyes transformed into something euphoric, "So when I saw that stake sitting there and nothing she was still breathing, I didn’t hesitate to shove it deep into her heart!"
Several nobles stared at her in horror, mostly because her whole demeanor was so different from what they all knew her to be. The only person that wasn’t surprised too much at it was Beatrice.
But the part where she’d just revealed to everyone that the Alpha was wolfless...that part was astonishing, and slightly difficult to believe. How could someone as powerful as Malachi be wolfless?!
Malachi didn’t even break a sweat, "What have you done with Della?"
"If I’m not mistaken—" Selene looked very proud of herself at that moment, "She should have turned to ash by now, Malachi. Your guards would not find anything left of her. I walked out and I left her burning, right after I had shoved my claws into her abdomen, grabbed your cub’s head...and crushed it between my claws,"
Malachi’s eyes flared again into that dangerous crimson colour, and everyone in the room instantly flinched and lowered their head again, this time so low that it was almost touching the floor.
Selene was dangling off the ground, and Malachi’s fingers were tightly wrapped around her neck. He looked like he was going to tear her head off her body at any second!
"You...did what?!"
Selene let out a painful, strangled laugh accompanied with blood from her throat being crushed, "Why are you so mad, Malachi? You’re the one who always said you wanted her to suffer a fate worse than death...which I gladly gave her before I set the whole place on fire,"
"SELENE!!!"
She laughed again, even more cruel this time. Her face was swollen from lack of blood, and her eyes were getting pale, "Are you seriously gonna unleash all your anger on me, Malachi? I mean, if there’s anyone that deserves to go through a fate worse than death...it’s you, isn’t it? Katherine betrays you...and suddenly, you believe every other person like her would do the same,"
He tightened his grip, and her eyes began rolling to the back of her head.
"My Alpha!" Elder Ravaryn cried from the back, his staff hitting the ground and rolling away. He was on both hands and knees, with his head pressed to the cold floor, "Please!! Please have mercy!!! Please!!!"
The other elders immediately followed, trembling insanely as their heads all touched the ground too, "My Alpha, Show Mercy!!!"
"Rowan!!!" Malachi said with a roar, and the beta instantly appeared next to him on both knees and head lowered.
"Yes, Alpha?!"
"RIP OUT THEIR TONGUES AND PEEL OFF THEIR SKINS!! I WOULD HAVE IT KNEADED INTO MY NEW ROBE!!!"
"Yes, Alpha!!" He stood up and instantly unsheathed his sword.
All the council members began shivering, trembling and crawling back while exchanging terrified glances.
Malachi looked around again, "Does anyone else have something to say?"
Beatrice still sat down, and both eyes were twitching now. The madness was only a second away from erupting, especially now that there was no going back.
Eclipse Crown Pack would declare war on Nightveil and IronRidge!
And every single thing she had worked on gaining — to become the Luna of Eclipse Crown — has turned into dust.
Marrying Leopold had turned out useless. Every single time she had endured his nonsense, and she ended up not using him for exactly what she wanted! All those late nights of imagining the moment where her father would finally look up...and see her sitting on the throne.
All of that... would never be again.
Her entire being was shaking, and then...she burst into laughter. Heaps of uncontrollably, mad laughter.
