"You think my chair is ridiculous?!"

Both women turned to the door instantly, and standing there was a familiar silver-eyed Alpha with a mixed look of humour and disdain on his face as he slowly shook his head at them.

"Alpha Cassian!" Della almost smiled right here.

Her lips twitched to move, but they didn’t. Although her eyes became bright — bright enough to sparkle before the spark died off.

"Looks like someone missed me," He teased as he walked into the room, closing the door behind him.

She rolled her wheelchair close to him, and they met in the middle, "Alpha Cassian," She tried to bow, but speaking and moving her wrists was as far as her body would allow.

Even looking up at him was making her head throb harder, but she could still manage it.

He seemed to immediately understand her plight and bent over instead. His whole seven-foot large and towering frame came down till he was now on one knee, and their faces were levelled.

Della stared at her with her jaw hanging wide open.

"You were saying?" He sounded like he was trying not to laugh and was not being very successful in it.

"I uhhh," She slowly pulled back the lever, and the chair started to move back a little. Maybe putting a little space between them would help her regain her composure.

Cassian caught it before she could move an inch away from him and pulled her even closer to him than she was before, "You uhh, what?"

She tried to clear her throat to clear whatever... tension was in the air, but it didn’t help, "I wanted to thank you for helping me. Anne...told me everything. I also wanted to thank you for the chair. It’s wonderful and has been a huge help,"

She was looked at anywhere but him.

"You don’t sound grateful," He said.

That’s because you’re too close and my voice keeps stuttering!

"I am," She nodded once, "Very," She kept her eyes fixed on whatever was behind him.

He chuckled, but he still didn’t move or let go of the chair, "You are doing better than you were the last time I was here. Very much better. Are you sure your wolf isn’t helping you heal?"

It sounded like he was purely teasing her, but she frowned this time and looked straight at him, "I wish,"

"You know, little servant," He said to her, leaning even closer, "Your wolf doesn’t own you. You own it. You control it. You need to learn to take charge,"

"What does that mean?"

"It means," He gently reached over and tucked some hair behind her ear, even though there was actually no hair and he just wanted to touch her face, "You’re the boss. It can’t sleep forever if you wake it up, hm?"

She didn’t understand.

Before she could ask anything else, he tilted his head and asked the person behind her, "How’s her health coming up?"

"She’s recovering well. I’m also surprised she can move herself this much after just three days of the incident,"

"By the way," Della said, pulling his attention back to him even though it never really left her despite him looking away to ask Annelise, "Is everything alright?" She sounded concerned now, "Did anyone see you carrying me that day? Are they talking about it?"

She already knew the answer to that question.

An Alpha... protecting a rotblood in front of hundreds. That would be nothing short of an abomination.

"Let them try," He said, "I’ll just rip out their tongues. It’s that simple,"

Della felt chills run down her spine. He had sounded so deadly at that moment.

"Do not worry about that, Little servant,"

She nodded.

"Could I ask you for a favour?"

It was as if her mouth didn’t have an off button, because why on earth would a rotblood ask an Alpaj for a favour?!

"Yes?" Cassian looked expectant.

No frown. No burst or anger.

His actions always reminded her that he wasn’t that kind of person.

"Could you...take me to see Malachi?"

Anne immediately stopped what she was doing.

"Why?"

"I need...to convince him to give me his blood, for the baby to survive," Her eyes suddenly widened the moment she realised that she had never told Cassian she was pregnant.

"Don’t worry," Cassian replied, "I know everything,"

She sighed, then she glanced back at Anne. A look passed between them.

"What is it?" Della asked.

"It’s not that...easy," She replied.

"I know it won’t be easy to convince Malachi to give me his blood. I know he hates me and for whatever reason, he now hates his child since he chose to abandon us. But I still need to try,"

"It’s not that," Cassian spoke this time, "I don’t think that’s what she’s trying to tell you,"

Della looked back at the Alpha, then over again to her friend. They both looked like they knew something that she didn’t know, something that would change something about this.

"God," She squeezed her eyes shut.

Whatever terrible news they were about to deliver, she did not want to hear it. She already had so much going on that she wasn’t sure she could take anymore.

"Just say it," She finally breathed, "Tell me,"

The humour disappeared from his eyes, leaving something much more careful in its place. He glanced briefly at Annelise before looking back at Della, "Malachi doesn’t believe the baby is his. At least, not anymore,"

For a second, Della thought she must have misheard him or maybe she’d simply stopped understanding simple words anymore and just stared at him like she was staring at an empty space.

"He thinks the child belongs to someone else."

"What??!" She finally exclaimed, "When did this...happen?"

"It’s...all my fault," Cassian admitted, his breath now ragged, "I was talking to him, and I mentioned the baby and I don’t know exactly what I said that made him start to think in that direction. Then, he—"

"He what?" She whispered brokenly.

"He said he saw what happened between us the other night. The night before...the day he rejected you,"

Della’s eyes instantly widened.

Malachi had been there?!

"And now, he believes you either had an affair with me or some other man and the child isn’t his,"

Annelise listened quietly.

The pounding in her head had become so much worse, "Alpha, what exactly did you say?" Della asked, trying to get all the facts down.

Cassian told her everything they’d conversed about that day. He didn’t let a single word out.

Once he was done, she found fault in both Malachi and Cassian.

"With all due respect, I think I need to be alone," She said simply, turning her chair around to leave.

"Adelaide—" He grabbed her chair again, making her stop, "I...it’s all my fault. I caused this. I caused all of this,"

"A little," She said tightly, then she glanced back at him, "But you meant no harm, Alpha. If anything, it seems like Malachi himself was just looking for any reason to hate me more...and he got it. A reason to withdraw even further because this baby is the only thing that is still connecting me to him," Her Jaw clenched hard, "And I would have been so goddamn happy that he believes this baby is another man’s if it means it would never have anything to do with him or Eclipse Crown again, but...I still need his blood for my child to survive, so right now," She gave him what was probably the saddest smile he’s ever seen, "I just need...to be alone,"
