Monsters Die When Killed
Chapter 464 - 26: As Everyone Knows, a Life-and-Death Battle Only Takes 1 -
"I know my perspective, as a visitor from an Otherworld, might sound like empty talk to you natives. It’s easy for me to say since I have no skin in the game. But I, who originally had nothing to do with any of this, am here now. I’m not just watching anymore—I’m personally taking action to help you. So why can’t you at least give it a try?"
In the Wind God’s ears, the giant Dragon’s words weren’t just naive—calling them naive would have been a compliment. They were simply laughable.
’After all, how could one civilization’s accumulated knowledge be so easily left to the civilization of the next Era? That would be like giving away everything you own without holding back.’
’If the end of an Era was truly final, with no chance of ever returning, then such a thing might be possible. A civilization needs to prove it once existed. Even if it meant giving everything away to others, it would still want to leave that proof behind. It’s just like the Explorer from Earth, that lonely spacecraft wandering the Cosmos. Beyond broadcasting to the entire universe, it was also meant to leave proof in the Cosmos that Earth Civilization had existed, long after humanity might perish in the future.’
’But the end of a civilization in the Reincarnation World isn’t truly the end. The Netherworld Maze gives them a chance to start over. Therefore, every subsequent Era becomes an ’enemy’ to the previous civilization. This makes such a generous, final act of sharing impossible.’
’Reincarnation... It’s not as if there’s a shortage of ways to break this eternal cycle. But because of the fundamental nature of life and civilization, they are trapped in a ’Prisoner’s Dilemma’ that’s nearly impossible to escape through ’normal development’. And so, the many civilizations that have been reborn and have perished time and again in this Realm of Reincarnation would never choose methods that are too generous or selfless. Nor would they choose methods that are too absolute, leaving them no room for retreat.’
’They would rather slaughter one another at the end of an Era, even at the risk of mutual destruction, than allow anyone else the chance to survive and continue on.’
As the Wind God recalled the countless cycles of Reincarnation he had witnessed, he fell silent. He hadn’t been persuaded by Su Zhou, but it was obvious Su Zhou hadn’t been trying to persuade him.
Su Zhou was simply declaring his decision. He would do it whether the Wind God agreed or not.
"Wind God, tell me everything you know. About the Gray Mist, the Maze, and the transition between Eras."
The giant Dragon spoke, standing before the Wind God. "And as for me, I will find a way to end the Reincarnation myself!"
A gale swirled. After a long silence and a flash of Spiritual Light, the Wind God—now in the form of a gray-haired man—landed on the ground. He heaved a long sigh and said, "Fine."
However, the Wind God said, his tone still laced with a hint of confusion now that he had shed his combat form, "But, before that, Su Zhou. Could you please explain to me how you can control Spiritual Power of so many different Attributes?"
What truly gave him a glimmer of hope were not Su Zhou’s words, but the incredibly unique ability he had shown in converting Elements.
Su Zhou smiled at this. He knew the Wind God had finally understood his true meaning. ’It was only through battle that the god would so clearly notice, and believe in, what made him unique.’
"This is a special Extraordinary Organ called the Five Spirits Colored Scales, which allows for the fluid conversion of different kinds of Elemental Spiritual Power. I suppose your world doesn’t have anything similar, does it?"
Su Zhou said, his tone significant, "As for where it came from... that’s a long story. However, in my plan, I intend to rely on this very thing to try and change this world."
