Chapter 1604: Chapter 408: Despair Reversed, Earth’s Newcomer

Dong!

The heavy crash made the Space hum; Wu Zhan turned into a backward-flying Liu Guang and slammed into the seabed with a thunderous roar.

But it soon shot back up from the seabed, once more crashing against Ye Ming.

Ghostly blue Fiery Flames and gray-white death light smashed together savagely, the shock wave erupting into a hurricane that swept out, even heaving up giant waves across the Ascension Sea.

Ye Ming’s figure swayed ever so slightly, the ghostly blue Fiery Flames burning around him dimming by a fraction.

Though in the next instant he was replenished by Strength converging from the Mingwu Army behind, the Speed of that replenishment was already faintly falling behind the Speed of his consumption.

By contrast, amid the crossing lights and shadows, Wu Zhan was bolstered by Shuyan’s will, like some tireless combat engine, forever burning with an inexplicable hatred.

Every time it was driven back, vast narrative Energy surged in from the Domain behind, swiftly repairing the wear and tear of its body.

In terms of Combat Skills, and his command of Strength, Ye Ming held absolute superiority.

He could always find the most devious angle from which to launch an Attack, driving the united Strength to its extreme.

Wu Zhan’s Attack, in his eyes, lacked variation and its flaws were easy to seize.

Yet within the system of abilities, he had fallen into disadvantage.

Wu Zhan was like shackles tailored for him by Shuyan.

The Mingwu Power he blasted out had a portion Decompose within that gray-white Rune Domain.

It would even absorb part of his Mingwu Power and turn it to its own use.

As though his peerless Strength struck only emptiness, each ferocious clash consuming far more than it inflicted.

On the most fundamental level of warfare—the contest of Energy consumption—he had already sunk into absolute disadvantage.

Ye Ming clearly Perceived that he was growing steadily more strained.

At high Speed movement, the drag of Space around him grew ever heavier.

While Wu Zhan’s Attacks were like an endless tide, one wave after another, wearing away at his Strength.

Yet the War Intent in Ye Ming’s eyes had not diminished in the slightest; instead, it burned ever hotter.

He could not retreat, and even less could he lose.

Behind him lay the Mingwu Clan’s last homeland.

And the Emperor and the clan were straining to maintain the army’s formation, providing him with their final support of Strength.

This battle concerned the very survival of the clan.

If he fell, the Shuyan Army would drown the Mingwu Clan’s inheritance of tens of thousands of years, as had befallen the Ascension Clan, sinking completely into history, turning to dust.

Becoming yet another stepping stone on Shuyan’s road to the summit.

He did not blame the Emperor’s initial hesitation, nor the Elder Council’s caution.

A clan is a clan precisely because it is a whole composed of countless individuals.

The Emperor is the mind of that whole, weighing gains and losses.

The Elder Council is its bones and tendons, supporting its structure.

Every Mingwu Warrior is the flesh and blood of that whole.

And he himself is the embodiment of its collective will.

This was the choice of the whole; there is no right or wrong—only the duty to bear it with all one’s Strength.

Roar!

With that thought, Ye Ming let out a low howl.

In that instant, he chose to burn himself, abandoning all defense completely.

Ghostly blue Fiery Flames surged and boiled, turning him into a martyr War God.

His Attacks grew even more ferocious, carrying the Momentum of mutual annihilation with the enemy, hurling himself at Wu Zhan without regard for anything.

Each Attack burned away the traces of his existence.

Each collision dimmed his figure by a shade, yet he still pressed the Attack.

He was the General of the Mingwu Clan, its sharpest blade, who had once carved out lands for the clan and slain countless mighty foes.

In this moment, he was also the clan’s final Shield.

With his own backbone, with his own extinction, he sought to buy the faintest chance for those behind to rally anew.

Thus he fulfilled his Ultimate duty as Great General.

The misty body that constituted his existence had grown thin in battle, nearly transparent, and one could faintly see within the Life Mark that symbolized his Demigod Status.

Strength was fleeing his body at terrifying Speed; his vision was beginning to blur.

Ye Ming knew he had no possibility left of defeating Shuyan.

A last sliver of clarity rose in his eyes.

He no longer tried to Attack Wu Zhan; using the remainder of his Strength, he suddenly blasted Wu Zhan back, forcing for himself an instant of breathing Space.

In the next moment, he made his Ultimate choice.

His near-transparent hands slammed down hard upon his own chest, upon that radiant Life Mark.

"Your Majesty... take our people... and go!!!"

His ragged roar resounded in the heart of every Mingwu clansman—an order, and even more, a final plea.

At the same time, that Demigod Realm Life Mark on his chest suddenly burst forth with a brilliance that would devour all things.

He sought to pay with himself, to unleash one final Ultimate eruption.

To forge a cataclysmic Energy Storm, temporarily swallowing the Silent Ming Army, hindering their pursuit.

So long as the clan still lived, so long as the spark did not go out, the future would yet hold hope.

He was willing to sink into Silence himself, to hack open one last path of Life for the clan’s future.

Yet just as that radiance brightened to its extreme, on the verge of reaching the threshold of explosion, it suddenly froze.

The place where Ye Ming stood was covered by the Shuyan Domain; Space itself seemed to turn into invisible amber.

Ye Ming, burning himself and about to blossom into his final Destruction, was completely frozen.

His martyr posture was fixed at the last instant.

Only his thoughts and Perception still turned feebly within.

At that same moment, Shuyan burned its Source and released from the story’s Chapters: the Power of Time.

But this was not true temporal stasis; only all Energy within this portion of Space ceased to flow.

The Taotie feast had yet to begin; it would not allow Ye Ming to end this war early by burning himself.

Ye Ming’s tragic grandeur had nothing to do with it.

Nor would it be fulfilled.

In the next second, the Silent Ming Army surged forth like a breached flood, crashing upon the Mingwu Army that was trying to retreat behind.

The slaughter began.
