Chapter 92: Chapter 91: Don’t Pick Things from the Trash Can

Meanwhile, Gu Qingyin took advantage of Huo Yunjing’s lucidity to briefly explain her disappearance from twenty years ago.

Over on the other side, the "unimportant" Huo Xingchen found a corner to dispose of the suppression tool—the tooth.

The process was simple enough: he just had to smash it. But for that, he needed a suitable tool.

Huo Xingchen looked around but couldn’t find anything. Finally, his gaze fell on the Fire Burning Stick next to Gu Qingyin. He hesitated for a couple of seconds before walking over. "Mom, can I borrow that Fire Burning Stick next to you?"

Without missing a beat in her explanation, Gu Qingyin casually grabbed the Fire Burning Stick and handed it over.

Huo Xingchen quickly grabbed it, eager to go deal with the tooth, but Gu Qingyin didn’t let go. He glanced at her quizzically. Gu Qingyin took a moment to turn and say, "Hold on tight. It’s a little heavy."

’How heavy can a stick be?’ Huo Xingchen thought. He nodded. "You can let go."

The next second, Huo Xingchen felt a sudden weight in his hand, his arm plummeting downwards. He cried out in surprise, straining with one hand while his other shot out to grab the far end of the Fire Burning Stick. He managed to support it, holding it like a barbell.

Huo Xingchen was utterly shocked. This thing was absurdly heavy, at least fifty pounds, easy.

But Gu Qingyin had held it so effortlessly! ’Are all Heavenly Masters this ridiculously strong?’

After getting used to the weight of the Fire Burning Stick, Huo Xingchen returned to his corner and prepared to start smashing.

The silver orb had a clasp, and opening it revealed the tooth. Despite so many years having passed, the bloodstain on it was still a fresh, wet red, as if it had just been pulled. It looked incredibly eerie.

He placed the tooth on a floor tile, took aim with the Fire Burning Stick, and brought it down with a powerful swing.

After a loud BANG, Huo Xingchen moved the Fire Burning Stick aside to look. The floor tile had cracked, but the tooth remained perfectly unharmed.

Huo Xingchen clicked his tongue. His eyes scanned the area, and he decided on a new location. He went back to the bedroom with the coffin, placed the tooth on the lid, aimed again, and swung down.

After another BANG, he checked again. The tooth was still not broken, and the coffin lid was fine, too.

’The coffin Dad used to live in is really something else,’ Huo Xingchen thought. ’This thing is ridiculously hard.’

Then, a continuous BANG, BANG, BANG echoed through the house, making it impossible for Gu Qingyin to speak normally. She rolled her eyes and cut to the chase. "Just remember that I’m still the same person I was before. That’s all you need to know. And all three of our sons are grown up now, so don’t act like you don’t know them the next time you see them."

Huo Yunjing’s expression was neutral, but his gaze on her was gentle. He nodded. "I’ll remember, honey."

Gu Qingyin still wasn’t quite used to it. When Huo Yunjing was alive, he’d never called her "honey." Now that he was dead, he was apparently letting his true self fly free.

A few minutes later, the banging stopped.

Huo Yunjing shuddered, and the Yin Qi surrounding him instantly intensified. The clarity in his eyes was once again overcome by a crimson tide as he began to lose his sanity.

"Yun Jing!" Gu Qingyin raised her voice slightly. "Look at me. Do you want to be my ghost servant?" Her features softened into a gentle smile. "Be my ghost servant, and you can be with me forever."

Huo Yunjing froze. A wave of pure ecstasy washed over him, piercing through the fog in his mind and restoring a measure of his clarity. "I would be more than willing. It would be my honor."

Gu Qingyin’s eyes crinkled in a smile. She gently bit the tip of her tongue, leaned close to Huo Yunjing, and, lowering her gaze, pressed her lips to his.

Huo Yunjing was stunned for two seconds. It wasn’t until the warm taste of blood spread through his mouth that the crimson in his eyes completely faded. His gaze darkened, and he raised a hand to cup the back of Gu Qingyin’s head, deepening the kiss and taking control.

Huo Yunjing’s kiss was heavy, almost fierce. He was like a wolf that hadn’t tasted meat in centuries; now that he had his prey, he was unwilling to let go, savoring the sweet flavor over and over, growing more addicted by the second.

Gu Qingyin managed to play along for a moment before she couldn’t take it anymore. She pushed the dead ghost off her, gasping for air. "Are you trying to suffocate me?" she scolded.

Huo Yunjing, looking unsatisfied, pursed his lips and said nothing. His hand, however, gently patted Gu Qingyin’s back, helping her catch her breath.

Gu Qingyin took a deep breath. Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly spotted Huo Xingchen not far away. Her expression faltered for an imperceptible moment, a flash of chagrin in her eyes. ’Oh crap,’ she thought, ’I forgot my son was still here!’

’Getting caught by your kid kissing a man is so embarrassing! Even if that man is his father, it’s still so, so embarrassing!’

Huo Xingchen was a little embarrassed, too, but mostly he was happy.

His parents’ relationship was so good. Even though they were separated by life and death, even though they hadn’t seen each other for twenty years, even though his dad’s mind seemed to be a little scrambled, his mom was still completely devoted to him.

The more Huo Xingchen thought about it, the more moved he became, almost to the point of tears. He hoped that one day he, too, would find a wife he connected with so deeply, the kind of love that stayed strong no matter how long they were together.

His moment of reflection over, he tactfully picked up the Fire Burning Stick and returned to the bedroom, giving his parents some much-needed private space.

Gu Qingyin let out an imperceptible sigh of relief. She cleared her throat. "Alright, the pact is made."

Huo Yunjing’s mood brightened slightly. "So I can stay with you all the time now?"

"Yes." Gu Qingyin glanced around. "First, I’ll find a bottle to carry you in. Once we’re home, I’ll make you a home in a Jade Pendant."

Huo Yunjing made a request. "Make it a pendant."

Gu Qingyun paused and glanced back at him.

Huo Yunjing blinked, putting on his most innocent and harmless expression.

After a couple of seconds, Gu Qingyin suddenly smiled. "Fine by me. I was thinking of getting a new collarbone necklace anyway."

Collarbone? Huo Yunjing’s gaze fell upon her fair, smooth collarbones. ’Hmm... that works too, I guess.’

Gu Qingyin turned away. Her hand brushed past a snack box on the coffee table as she plucked a plastic water bottle from the trash can. She quickly drew a talisman on it and said with a cheerful smile, "Hop in. Let’s go home."

Huo Yunjing glanced at the bottle in her hand, then at the snack box. "I like that one better."

Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Oh my, I didn’t even see that one. What a shame, I’ve already drawn the talisman. It’s just for a little while. You can manage, right?"

Reluctantly, Huo Yunjing said, "Honey, next time, please don’t pick things out of the trash. It’s not clean."

Her eyes crinkling with amusement, Gu Qingyin nodded. "Alright. Now, hurry up and get in."

Huo Yunjing figuratively held his nose and entered the water bottle.

Gu Qingyin twisted the cap on and snorted. ’His brain isn’t even working right, and he’s still trying to score perks for himself. Hmph!’

"Huo Xingchen!" Gu Qingyin called out, ordering him around as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Come draw a couple of Purification Talismans to cleanse the Yin Qi in this house, then we can go."

"Coming!" Huo Xingchen called back. He came out, handed the Fire Burning Stick back to Gu Qingyin, then shook out his hands. He sat down on the sofa and started pulling things out of his backpack.

His bag was a mess. A keyboard and mouse were sitting on top, while the yellow paper and vermillion were squashed at the very bottom. Thankfully, they were in a separate pouch, otherwise, stored like this, they would have been unusable.

After laying out all his materials, Huo Xingchen took a deep breath, picked up his brush, and began to draw the talisman.
