Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Locating Talisman
The next second, Gu Qingyin leaped down without a moment’s hesitation.
This sent the hearts of the three people left above into a frantic rhythm. They didn’t care about their psychological state or whether they’d sink into the ground—they each scrambled toward the edge of the pit.
In truth, they weren’t clear on what had happened. They didn’t even know Huo Xinghai was missing. They just instinctively wanted Gu Qingyin to be in the same space as them. Even a little distance was fine, but she absolutely could not disappear from their sight!
But Gu Qingyin was faster. Before they could reach the edge, she had already leaped back out.
The three of them only needed one look at Gu Qingyin before they froze in place, not daring to speak or move.
Gu Qingyin’s expression was blank, yet they could clearly feel her earth-shattering rage and a faint, oppressive aura.
It was a strange, profound feeling, like prey facing a predator—they instinctively sensed the danger and remained silent, lest they be hunted down and killed.
Gu Qingyin was indeed furious. Huo Xinghai had been taken right under her nose, and the thing that had taken him felt disturbingly familiar...
’But how is that possible? I know I killed it back then!’
Gu Qingyin rummaged through her satchel and pulled out an oval-shaped... plate? It was larger than a beauty mask.
Calling it a plate wasn’t quite accurate. One end was noticeably narrower and pointed. Its edge was white, but the color deepened as it went up, eventually transitioning to a dark red.
At first glance, it looked like a piece of art, but it radiated an ancient, unrefined aura. The most baffling part, however, was how such a large, seemingly rigid object had been stuffed into that small, square satchel.
Next, Gu Qingyin took out a vermillion brush from her satchel. She paused for a moment, then, as if guided by some unseen force, she also brought out the Curse Doll.
’I wonder if this thing even works on an Ancient Fierce Beast?’ she thought.
Before she could think it through, Gu Qingyin placed the doll on the "plate."
’Might as well try. If it works, great. If not, no big deal. It’s not like it takes any effort.’ Then, she drove a needle through the doll’s brow, pinning it to the "plate."
The next second, the "plate" flared with a brilliant red light, sending out concentric ripples of red energy visible to the naked eye.
Not to be outdone, the Curse Doll on top of it began to tremble, emitting plumes of black-red mist that tried to corrode its way downward. For a moment, the two forces were locked in a stalemate.
Gu Qingyin stared for three seconds, then lost her patience. With a "tsk," she reached out to grab the doll.
As everyone knows, when two forces are locked in a stalemate, the last thing a third party should do is interfere. It’s far too easy to break the balance, resulting in mutual destruction for the original two, or for the meddling third party to be crushed between the opposing forces and die a miserable death for their troubles.
For once, Huo Zhao Hua lost his composure, his eyes widening in shock. He wanted to cry out and stop her but found he couldn’t make a sound.
Shan Zhu and Tian Gang were even more dumbfounded. Both were ordinary people who had never encountered anything from the Mystic Sect. The scene before them was like something out of a movie, utterly surreal.
But all three of them knew that, setting aside the issue of finding anyone, their only hope of getting out of here alive was Gu Qingyin. Anyone could get hurt, but not her. She was their lifeline.
That was why they were so incredibly tense when Gu Qingyin reached out her hand. That black-red mist and the dark red light—one look was enough to tell they were bad news!
As the three men watched with horrified, wide eyes, Gu Qingyin expressionlessly grabbed the "plate" and, along with the Curse Doll on top, flipped it over, revealing its smooth back.
Then she picked up the brush, dipped it in vermillion, and began to draw a Positioning Talisman.
Locating an ordinary person was something Gu Qingyin could do with a casual calculation. Locating an Ancient Fierce Beast, however, was a bit more troublesome, especially since this one controlled the power of chaos...
The moment the rune took shape, Gu Qingyin felt a connection. Her brow twitched, a hint of confusion on her face. ’Does this Fierce Beast have a doppelgänger or something? I’m sure I slayed it twenty years ago!’
Still puzzled, Gu Qingyin picked up the "plate" and, using it like a compass, began to walk.
Once Gu Qingyin had walked a short distance away, Huo Zhao Hua and the other two felt the stiffness leave their bodies. After a few simple movements, they began to follow her from a distance.
Huo Zhao Hua’s heart was a knot of anxiety. They had only just arrived, and Huo Xinghai was already gone. His mother had been in here for so long, could she have already... He didn’t dare to complete the thought. Fear coiled in his gut, and he even felt a sliver of resentment toward Lin Xiaoyun.
Gu Qingyin followed the directions of the rune, but she often had to make sharp turns, even doubling back on herself several times. She would rush past Huo Zhao Hua and the others, moving erratically like a disoriented fly.
