Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Already Enrolled in a Class
The blessing worked surprisingly well. As soon as Gu Qingyin and Huo Xinghai boarded the boat, they heard Lin Tian’s excited shriek. "I got one! I caught a fish!"
Gu Qingyin couldn’t help but laugh. She had planned to go take a look, but a gust of wind made her shiver.
"Better go change first."
The production crew was well-prepared. They had spare clothes for every guest, and more than one set at that.
When Gu Qingyin came out after changing, she saw Lin Tian standing timidly at the door, watching her cautiously, afraid to speak.
Gu Qingyin smiled and raised a hand to ruffle her hair. "Don’t be scared. It wasn’t your fault."
"I’m sorry..." Lin Tian was still wracked with guilt. Even though she hadn’t meant for it to happen, she was the one who had done it.
"It’s really okay." Gu Qingyin winked. "Sister Qing is no ordinary person."
Lin Tian pressed her lips into a smile and leaned in to ask quietly, "Just now... was I possessed by a ghost?"
Gu Qingyin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "No, don’t let your imagination run wild. What kind of ghost would possess you just to make you go fishing? Was it here specifically to help you or something?"
Lin Tian scratched her head, agreeing that it didn’t seem very likely. "Then what was it?"
"Don’t overthink it. You’re fine now, so it’s over." Gu Qingyin said casually, "It’s just a game, don’t get so fixated on it."
Lin Tian blushed in embarrassment. "I’m not usually like this, really."
Gu Qingyin certainly didn’t doubt her. The reason she was so easily ensnared this time was partly because Lin Tian had been previously steeped in Yin Qi. The girl hadn’t fully recovered yet, making her susceptible to malevolent influences.
"I never said I didn’t believe you." Gu Qingyin gave a helpless smile, then deftly changed the subject. "How big was the fish you caught? Take Sister Qing to see."
Lin Tian’s attention was indeed diverted, and she brightened up a little. "It’s huge! Longer than my arm!"
The two of them walked out, chatting, and ran right into Lin Xiaoyun and the camera following her.
Lin Xiaoyun asked with concern, "Qing Yin, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell anywhere? If you’re not feeling well, you have to say so. Don’t try to be strong."
The live stream audience was also very worried. Ever since Gu Qingyin fell into the water and Huo Xinghai dove in after her without a second thought, everyone had been following their situation. Now that Gu Qingyin had appeared, the bullet-screen comments exploded, and a continuous stream of viewers flooded into Lin Xiaoyun’s live stream.
[Thank goodness, Sister Qing looks like she’s fine.]
[She can’t swim, fell into the ocean, was in there for so long, and is totally fine. Amazing!]
[Sister Qing really isn’t an ordinary person!]
[What about Haibao’er? He should be fine too, right?]
[I was scared to death when Haibao’er jumped in!]
[Such a deep mother-son bond! I’m a sobbing mess!]
[It’s touching, yeah, but it was too dangerous! He should have waited for the professional rescue team.]
[Gotta say, the rescue response on the boat was way too slow. If Haibao’er hadn’t gone down with a lifebuoy, Sister Qing might not have been able to hold on for that long.]
...
Gu Qingyin watched Lin Xiaoyun with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile. She waited until the gentle smile on the other woman’s face began to stiffen before she finally spoke. "Thank you for your concern. I’m fine."
Her tone was polite, distant, and courteous, making it impossible for Lin Xiaoyun to continue her show of concern.
Lin Tian glanced between the two, a strange look on her face. ’The atmosphere between them doesn’t feel like that of two people who just met.’
Lin Xiaoyun had probably trained for this over the years; she was certainly thick-skinned. Hearing Gu Qingyin’s words, she relaxed again. "That’s good. Everyone was so worried about you. You were in the water for so long, should we have the kitchen prepare some ginger soup..."
She hadn’t even finished speaking when Huo Xinghai came over holding a thermos. He called out before he even got close, "Mom, come drink some brown sugar ginger tea! I added red dates and goji berries so it’s not so strong."
Gu Qingyin smiled. "Oh, look at that. My son already made some for me. How sweet."
Lin Xiaoyun clutched the hem of her skirt. Her face showed no trace of embarrassment as she smiled nonchalantly. "Second Young Master Huo is truly a filial son."
Huo Xinghai shot her a look but didn’t say anything. He handed the thermos to Gu Qingyin and instructed softly, "Drink it slowly. Don’t burn yourself."
Lin Tian, standing to the side, couldn’t help but click her tongue. ’Such an enviable and almost sickeningly sweet mother-son bond.’
Lin Tian instantly felt like a third wheel. With a great deal of perceptiveness, she started to head out, not forgetting to drag Lin Xiaoyun along with her.
Lin Xiaoyun clearly didn’t want to miss this chance to leech off the popularity, but she couldn’t just stand there motionless on camera. She had no choice but to reluctantly let Lin Tian pull her away.
"Let’s go, let’s go! We have to hurry up and fish! Let’s try to surpass Sister Qing and Huo Xinghai!"
Huo Xinghai glanced at them, then unhurriedly turned his gaze back to Gu Qingyin, as if supervising her.
Gu Qingyin took two sips and then capped the thermos.
"You drank too little." Huo Xinghai frowned. "Drink some more."
Gu Qingyin shook her head. "It’s too much. I’ll drink it slowly." She explained, "I’m not that weak." ’In fact, I’m terrifyingly strong!’
Just as Huo Xinghai was about to speak, his assistant ran over with a phone and said in a low voice, "It’s a call from President Huo."
Huo Xinghai instantly tensed up. After taking the phone, he unconsciously stood up a little straighter, his expression serious with a hint of reverence. "Big Brother."
Huo Xingye was sitting in his office, his eyes glued to the live stream playing on his tablet. He had just seen Gu Qingyin’s current state through Lin Xiaoyun’s stream and knew she was fine, which had already put his mind at ease.
Right now, he just wanted to give Huo Xinghai another warning.
"Take good care of Mom. If there’s a next time..."
"There absolutely won’t be!" Huo Xinghai promised. "This is the last time!" ’From now on, I won’t leave Mom’s side for a second.’
Huo Xingye snorted coldly. "I’ll be watching you."
Huo Xinghai blinked, relaxing a bit. "Bro, are you secretly watching the live stream during work hours?"
Huo Xingye hadn’t expected to be exposed so quickly. He fell silent for a second before saying, "...Xue Ning will be watching you."
Huo Xinghai: "Oh."
’You think I believe that?’
Huo Xingye cleared his throat. "Put our mom on the phone."
Huo Xinghai grinned and agreed. ’The words "our mom" are definitely the most beautiful in the world.’
Gu Qingyin took the phone and called out with a smile, "Eldest son, do you miss Mommy?"
Huo Xingye fell silent. Two seconds later, pretending he hadn’t heard, he asked his own question. "Were you scared?"
Gu Qingyin wasn’t bothered. She scoffed lightly. "It was just falling in the water. That’s nothing. Your mom is tougher than you think."
Huo Xingye suppressed the urge to sigh and continued, "I’ve signed you up for a swimming class. You’ll go as soon as you’re done filming the show."
Gu Qingyin didn’t refuse. ’You can never have too many skills, and it would put her sons’ minds at ease. Why wouldn’t she do it?’
After she hung up, the director came over to chat with Gu Qingyin for a while. Once he confirmed that there was nothing wrong with her, he reactivated her live stream, as well as Huo Xinghai’s.
On screen, the mother and son sat side by side on the deck at the stern, each holding a fishing rod. It was as if the heart-stopping scene from just moments ago had been nothing but a dream.
