Chapter 110 - 109: That’s a Wrap
Chapter 110: Chapter 109: That’s a Wrap
The moment Li Lu hit the ground, Gu Qingyin’s Thunder Spell struck, landing squarely on her head.
Li Lu’s body convulsed as she collapsed to the floor, overlapping screams of agony erupting from her mouth. Even so, once the lightning faded, she scrambled back to her feet and retreated into a corner.
Gu Qingyin had significantly lowered the power of the Thunder Spell, enough to make the little ghost suffer without causing too much damage to Li Lu’s body.
"Where do you think you’re going?"
Huo Yunjing poked his head through the wall, his voice echoing eerily from just above Li Lu.
Li Lu flinched violently and scrambled away on all fours.
Watching her, Gu Qingyin was inexplicably reminded of a frightened cat with all its fur standing on end. ’Too bad Li Lu isn’t covered in fur,’ she thought. ’That would’ve been quite a sight.’
She glanced over at Huo Yunjing. ’When he was alive, he was so prim and proper he seemed cold, but now that he’s dead, he’s full of mischief.’
Li Lu, like a cornered animal, was left with no choice but to snarl, "If you don’t let me go, I’ll kill her!" With that, she raised a hand and began to choke herself.
Huo Xinghai’s face filled with worry. He opened his mouth to call out to Gu Qingyin, but before a sound could escape, Huo Xingchen clamped a hand over his mouth. "Don’t bother Mom while she’s ghost-hunting."
Gu Qingyin narrowed her eyes and raised both of her hands.
Huo Xingchen’s eyes lit up. After all this time, he was finally seeing his mom form a spell with two hands!
Even though it was just one extra hand, a spell formed with two was obviously far more powerful than one formed with one. This was usually a sign of a major spell!
Huo Xingchen stared without blinking. Halfway through the sequence, his eyes began to burn, but he refused to give in and kept them wide open.
Gu Qingyin, multitasking, clicked her tongue. "Just let it happen naturally. Don’t force it. I’ll teach you all this in the future."
Huo Xingchen sighed regretfully and looked away, blinking rapidly to soothe his eyes. He didn’t want to close them, though. He wanted to see the power and effect of this spell.
As she completed the final hand sign, a blinding white light burst forth from between her palms. Then, like sharp arrows, the beams of light shot toward Li Lu with a series of sharp WHOOSHES.
Li Lu had no time to react. The moment the first beam of light struck her, her fate was sealed.
In less than a second, the beams of light had pinned Li Lu from head to toe, immobilizing her in mid-air. Even though her hand was still at her own throat, she no longer had the strength to tighten her grip.
"What... is this?" Li Lu managed to force out.
Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow. "Well now, impressive. You can still speak."
The little ghost inside Li Lu felt mocked. ’Impressive my ass! If I were so impressive, would I have been getting my butt kicked from the start? Now I’m a prisoner who can’t even move.’
’Who did I ever piss off? I haven’t done anything against the rules!’
Huo Xingchen’s eyes were shining. "That’s a seal, right?" It looked just like a skill one of his game characters had! ’Art really does imitate life. I’m starting to suspect the game designers and artists actually saw this move in person.’
"Mm," Gu Qingyin nodded, explaining, "The Ten Thousand Feet Light Prison. Once a target is locked, escape is nearly impossible. It’s a complete seal, from the soul to the physical body."
Gu Qingyin mused, "The little ghost can likely still speak because there are two souls inside the body."
"Then what do we have to do to drive the little ghost out of Li Lu’s body?" Huo Xinghai asked.
Gu Qingyin eyed him askance. "You really don’t have a crush on her?" His anxious expression made it hard not to be suspicious.
Huo Xinghai nodded, then shook his head. "Not that kind of like. I really admire her, like a fan admiring their idol. And right now, I feel incredibly guilty."
Gu Qingyin stared at him, and seeing that he didn’t seem to be lying, she huffed and started walking toward Li Lu. "I’m not against you dating an older woman," she said as she walked, "but she can’t be *that* much older."
’I’ve read Huo Xinghai’s fortune before. If his wife is too much older, he’s likely to end up lonely in his old age.’
Huo Xinghai didn’t seem to care about that. He just nodded obediently. "I’ll remember."
Gu Qingyin walked over to Li Lu, raised a hand, and placed it on top of her head.
Li Lu’s mouth didn’t move, but the little ghost’s terrified voice echoed from inside her head. "What do you think you’re doing?!"
Gu Qingyin didn’t answer. Instead, her palm suddenly grew translucent and slowly sank into Li Lu’s head.
The little ghost cried out in alarm, a sound that turned into a pained whimper. He felt a hand close around his throat, and then he was being irresistibly dragged from Li Lu’s body.
As the little ghost was pulled free, the Ten Thousand Feet Light Prison’s hold on him weakened. An idea sparked in his mind: he could use this chance to launch a sneak attack. He kept up his pained groans on the surface while secretly gathering his power.
The instant he was completely free of Li Lu’s body, Evil Qi surged around him as he launched a desperate, all-or-nothing attack at Gu Qingyin.
Gu Qingyin chuckled. "I do love a spirited ghost soul." Before the words had even faded, her hand tightened, emitting a blinding white light. The little ghost instantly let out the most ear-piercing shriek yet.
The Evil Qi surrounding the little ghost was like snow under a blazing sun, melting away in an instant. In just a few seconds, more than half of its Evil Qi was gone, and its entire form had become translucent.
Gu Qingyin didn’t kill it outright. The support contract between the little ghost and Li Lu hadn’t been broken yet. If she destroyed it rashly, Li Lu would suffer a backlash.
"Yun Jing," Gu Qingyin summoned her helper. "Watch him."
Huo Yunjing appeared abruptly at her side. He carefully studied her expression before absentmindedly taking the little ghost. ’She’s not disgusted with me, is she?’
Gu Qingyin didn’t notice. She turned and went into the bedroom, found the Ghost Doll, and right then and there took out her vermillion and a brush to draw a talisman on it.
Then she came back out, returned to Li Lu’s side, and drew the same rune on her forehead.
Finally, she chanted an incantation. The moment the runes activated, she destroyed the Wooden Ghost Doll.
The Ten Thousand Feet Light Prison dissipated, and the little ghost’s soul body began to fade as well.
An idea sparked in Huo Yunjing’s mind. As Gu Qingyin was busy catching the unconscious, collapsing Li Lu, he opened his mouth wide and stuffed the little ghost inside.
Gu Qingyin lowered Li Lu to the floor, then turned her head as if she’d sensed something. She was met with the sight of Huo Yunjing blinking innocently. "You’re amazing, honey. The little ghost’s soul just scattered completely."
Gu Qingyin frowned, thinking, ’...Does he think I’m as dumb as he is?’
After a two-second silence, Gu Qingyin called out nonchalantly, "Xingchen."
Huo Xingchen trotted forward happily. "Mom, is there anything I can do to help?"
"Draw a few purification talismans."
"No problem!" Huo Xingchen glanced around, then walked straight to the dining table and set up his materials.
Huo Xinghai, worried his mom might get the wrong idea and also intensely curious about his younger brother’s skills, spared only a distant glance for Li Lu before running over to watch.
With an audience, Huo Xingchen became even more focused. He spent a full three minutes on a single talisman. As he finished the final stroke, the runes seemed to come to life, emitting a faint, fluorescent glow.
Huo Xinghai couldn’t help but exclaim, "Amazing!"
Huo Xingchen lifted his chin proudly, picked up the talisman, and brought it to Gu Qingyin.
Gu Qingyin glanced at it and nodded in approval. "Not bad." Then she slapped it right onto Li Lu.
"All set. Let’s pack it up!"
