Chapter 375: Chapter 375: There’s Actually Someone in the World Even More Shameless
But Estelle didn’t let it show. She nodded and said, "It’s obvious you’ve been crying."
"Then... then what should I do?" Mrs. Yeats was clearly panicked.
Estelle said calmly, "It’s fine. You can just say you ran into me in the locker room and we talked about my mother, and you couldn’t hold back your tears."
Mrs. Yeats finally composed herself, her panic subsiding. "Right... you’re right. Thank you, Estelle. We’ll get in touch when we have time later."
With that, Mrs. Yeats hurried away.
After Mrs. Yeats left, Estelle indeed heard her assistant ask, "Mrs. Yeats, what happened to your eyes? Were you crying?"
Mrs. Yeats smiled helplessly. "I just ran into Estelle and we talked about Eleanor... Sigh."
The assistant replied, "My condolences, Mrs. Yeats. The dead cannot be brought back to life."
Estelle closed the locker room door and furrowed her brows slightly. That sense of something being wrong washed over her again, but exactly what was amiss?
After changing into her equestrian outfit, Estelle led the horse she had chosen to the riding track.
Nathaniel Sloan was already waiting for her.
Just as Estelle was about to mount her horse, Claire Yeats approached from a distance, chatting and laughing with a group of people. Seeing Estelle, Claire looked a bit surprised before saying, "Estelle, have you ever ridden a horse before? This horse is quite tall and large; it’s not very suitable for you. Beginners should really choose a more docile one."
Surrounded by her entourage like stars around the moon, Claire dismounted and walked over to Estelle with a smile. "I’ve studied equestrianism since I was little, though, so this horse is just right for me. Estelle, how about you give this horse to me?"
Estelle clicked her tongue and narrowed her eyes. Was a horse what Claire wanted to steal? No, what she wanted was Estelle’s family and husband.
Evan Yeats also nodded, looking down from his high horse. "Estelle, let Claire have it."
Liam Sloan laughed out of sheer anger. "Oh, I was wondering who it was. So it’s Mr. Yeats and Miss Yeats throwing their weight around again! First, you steal someone’s parents’ belongings, and now you’re coming to snatch a horse they’ve taken a liking to. Hey, can’t you two find another sheep to shear? There’s no need to fixate solely on Estelle, is there?"
His blunt words made everyone’s expressions stiffen.
Claire bit her lip gently, feigning helplessness. "About what happened back then... sigh, it can’t be explained in just a few words, and Evan isn’t that kind of person either. Estelle, you’ve truly misunderstood. Besides, I just felt you had suffered grievances before, so I wanted to remind you not to be impulsive. It wouldn’t be good if you fell off the horse."
Claire’s sycophants immediately laughed out loud. "HAHAHA, Claire is absolutely right."
"I seem to recall that equestrianism is a must-learn for high society, right? What, Miss Lockwood doesn’t know how?"
"Wow, a dignified daughter of the Yeats family actually doesn’t know how to ride a horse? Sigh, word getting out will only disgrace the Yeats family. Evan, Claire, what’s wrong with your family? How can you even tolerate a country bumpkin like her?"
Claire waited until everyone had their turn mocking Estelle before interrupting with feigned annoyance, "That’s enough, you guys."
Liam was utterly flabbergasted, thinking to himself that there were actually people in this world even more shameless than his own mother.
Before he could speak, Estelle nodded in profound agreement. "Makes sense.
"Let’s just forget it, then. I really don’t know much about riding horses. Since Miss Yeats wants this horse, it’s yours."
With that, Estelle released the reins, looking as if she had no other choice. "Miss Yeats, please."
Claire froze, never having expected Estelle to agree so readily. A bad premonition suddenly arose within her, yet everyone was watching her.
"Alright, then thank you very much, Estelle."
"Mhm, no need to thank me," Estelle suddenly smiled slyly. "I initially chose this horse because I thought it was quite tall and handsome. I didn’t expect Miss Yeats to say it wasn’t suitable for me. It’s still a bit of a shame that I can’t ride it. If Miss Yeats could ride it and show me, I’d be perfectly satisfied."
Estelle sighed. "I wonder if Miss Yeats can grant me this tiny wish?"
Nathaniel suddenly let out a light chuckle.
Failing to notice anything amiss, Claire bit her lip gently, assuming Estelle was just resentful. So, she spoke in her typical manipulative tone, "Of course I can show you, it’s just... never mind, Estelle. I’ll just take it for a lap. If you’re feeling sad about it, you can hire a coach to teach you."
This was perfect. She was going to show everyone that she was better than Estelle! She needed to fight for a good future for herself, and Estelle’s appearance had given her the opportunity. As long as she could step on the head of the Yeats family’s true daughter to climb up and steal Estelle’s life, she would achieve true happiness.
That was exactly what her ’Teacher’ had taught her! Her ’Teacher’ had said that Estelle was her nemesis, that Estelle’s luck clashed with hers, so she had to ruthlessly trample Estelle underfoot.
With this in mind, Claire grabbed the reins, looking exasperated. "Mr. Sloan, I’m so sorry. Estelle seems to be in a bad mood. You should probably comfort her."
Everyone was looking at Claire. They already knew that Estelle was an ignorant bumpkin who hadn’t even studied equestrianism. Now that Miss Yeats had stepped up to smooth things over, Estelle had somehow gotten angry for some unknown reason. Couldn’t they see that Miss Yeats’s eyes were already red?
Claire was very confident in herself. Actually, everything she had just said was completely made up. She had no idea what this horse’s temperament was like, nor did she know if it was suitable for beginners. But her goal was to outshine Estelle, so naturally, she had exaggerated the severity of the situation. However, the horse hadn’t made a fuss at all, so it ought to be quite docile.
When people talked about this later, the story would be that Claire Yeats had effortlessly ridden the horse for a lap, while Estelle had been too timid and scared to even mount it.
Estelle nodded. "Miss Yeats, you said this horse is quite spirited. Be careful."
Seeing the crowd growing larger, Claire couldn’t resist showing off. "Don’t worry! I’ve been specially trained in equestrianism. I can tame any horse."
The more Claire thought about it, the more excited she became. A smile crept onto her face. "Estelle, then I’ll just—AHH!"
The incident happened in a flash! No one expected that the moment Claire mounted, the seemingly gentle horse would suddenly become agitated and violently buck her off!
The surroundings fell dead silent. Everyone stared at Claire in dumbfounded shock. Wait, she was so confident a second ago, and this was it?
Estelle let out a gasp of naive shock. "Ah... is this equestrianism? Is this how you ride a horse, Nathaniel?"
Nathaniel, who clearly saw through her act, shook his head solemnly. "No, Estelle. Don’t learn from Miss Yeats, lest you pick up bad habits."
"Oh..." Estelle looked at Claire. "Uh, Miss Yeats, are you alright? I thought you were really good, which is why I let you have it. Um... it’s okay, being able to ride for a whole second is already amazing!"
Liam was speechless. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, Estelle, who did you learn this sarcastic passive-aggressiveness from?!
Claire was on the verge of dying from anger!
The grass at the track was specially made to prevent guests from getting injured during falls. Claire gritted her teeth in pain, but she couldn’t even pretend to pass out. What on earth was going on? Why did this horse suddenly go crazy?!
