Chapter 136: On the road again

[3rd POV]

“So, how’s the research on fashion design going?” Billie asked, as drove. They were currently in one of her other cars, which was a pretty nice SUV that she had for casual driving. She figured once the Lamborghini SUV came out, that would become her regular drive.

But until then she would stick with her current car.

She would have driven with a different car, but she and Haley planned on doing some grocery shopping afterwards, so they needed the SUV for that. The other cars were not big enough for the shopping that they tended to do.

“It’s going…well, it’s going. Trying to find someone to teach me is turning into more of a pain than I thought, even with your help. And I’m realizing that actually delving into the space is a ton more expensive than I initially expected, like…more than double at least” Haley replied with a sigh as she looked up from her phone, while Billie kept her eyes on the road.

“Hmm…do you actually need a teacher though? I don’t want to sound dumb when I ask this, but couldn’t you learn it all yourself? Or is Fashion design something that you kind of need a teacher for?” Billie asked, she didn’t know much of anything about the space, hence why she was asking this in the first place.

“You don’t necessarily need a teacher, but it makes things like…a bagillion times easier. It’s not even really learning about the space itself, or making clothes that makes it necessary to get a teacher. It’s the connections. The people that can teach me about fashion design are also the same people that can get me connections in the space that would then help me push my brand and name out there” Haley explained, getting a nod from Billie as she listened.

“And sure, you could probably get me connections in the space, or even the Kardashian-Jenners could. But the difference between connections from a teacher, and from you, is that the teachers can actually vouch for my work. While you are – no offense – kind of an outsider to the space, so they won’t take your word as they would with a proper teacher slash professional” Haley said.

“Makes sense. But how come getting a teacher in the first place is so difficult? I know that Kris had said she would help out since you were helping with Kylie and Kendall. And I also put my word out there for you”

“Because I don’t really meet the requirements that normal people do. I am taking advantage of my fortunate background and connections to try and get a teacher. Instead of working my way up like others do. Which is why beyond just trying to get a teacher, I am also studying my perfect little ass off, to show them that I can learn, and that I can be a fashion designer” Haley replied, getting a small chuckle from Billie.

“Alright then. How about we look into getting you a teacher that can help you learn the things needed to then get a teacher that can teach you the real secrets of the business?” Billie suggested, getting a look from Haley.

“…I am an idiot. I also love you for bringing that up. Get a teacher to then get another better teacher…genius!” Haley said with a cheerful grin, realizing that this was the perfect method to get the teacher she wanted.

It was basically hiring a tutor to help her pass a test, that would then get her a teacher that would give her the knowledge needed to actually enter the space. A test to get a test.

Had she went to college for it, it probably would have been a lot easier. But it would have also taken years, been a giant pain in the ass, and would have complicated matters further. So instead, she was going to cheat.

And she did feel bad, so Haley already planned on helping out some others in their growth in the space. Maybe sponsor some people through school? Could be a good idea. That way she can pay back those that truly worked up, and didn’t kind of cheat their way through things.

If she didn’t, Billie probably would.

Billie was going to do it even if she (Haley) didn’t, just because she would also feel a little bad. That and because she knew that it would look good for Haley, and because either way it was a good thing to do. That, and she honestly doubted Haley would not help them out. She was not the type of person to forget or ignore something of that magnitude.

And thankfully donating something for that would not particularly be difficult, financially or publically. Once Haley eventually delved into the space, it would look good on her to be up front about her background and that she was a very blessed person.

But even in that space, she could easily get “kicked to the curb” in a way. As there was a limit to how far she could go with outside help. It was that way for most areas, where nobody gave a shit about who your parents or friends or lover was, but only if you can actually do what they ask, and competently.

Thankfully Billie knew for a fact that Haley could, and would. She had complete faith in her, even if Haley herself didn’t seem to have much in herself.

She’d need to work on getting rid of that self doubt, because she was not a fan of seeing her acting like that. Simply because she was currently struggling to find herself a teacher. But that would change soon, Billie knew that.

Now that Billie had given her the idea for a tutor, it was only a matter of time before Haley learned more, and used her knowledge from a skilled tutor as leverage. As she would no doubt get the best possible tutor for herself, one that was well connected and just plain useful.

“Yeah I know, I’m pretty awesome” Billie replied cheekily, getting a fond eye roll form her girlfriend, who soon began to type away faster at her phone. Billie knew that she was almost certainly doing some work to get things done, as getting a proper tutor was not going to be easy, but it should certainly be better and easier than a teacher teacher.

Either way it did not truly matter. They were now getting close to the party and Billie wondered how it would go, considering how insanely awkward canon got in that episode.

She was certainly curious to find out.
