Chapter 719 Four Pillars: Four Items (2)
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
With Valyr finally finished with the first of four items needed to complete the trial, the young man did not delay in proceeding onto the next three items.
Though, because of this decision, he inadvertently cut a few corners around some of the steps of the forging process.
And one of those steps was the matter of what items he should forge.
“For the sake of simplicity and speed, let’s go with a shield, a pair of knuckles, and a sword.” Saying these words to himself, Valyr continued to flatten out the piece of metal he had taken out from the furnace, gradually taking on the rough form of a clipeus.
Of course, even though the young man said these words as if it were a matter of fact, that did not mean that Valyr had come up with the weapons from the get-go.
After having chucked in a few materials into the furnace as preparations for the items he would potentially craft, the young man decided to peruse the shelves of blueprints around him to obtain some potential item ideas.
Taking a brief look at the crimson dagger he had just finished forging, Valyr began to go through a few of the blueprints, thinking that the couple he picked out would be more than enough to forge as the three remaining items needed to complete the trial.
However, as if it was fated to happen, the blueprints he had picked out all looked to be items that needed a great number of parts in order to be created.
With that, he proceeded to peruse through some more blueprints, only to find out that those blueprints only led to items of similar complexity.
Eventually, he did find blueprints that allowed him to forge simple items that were around the same level of complexity as the crimson dagger he forged.
Though, by the time he had done so, he had more or less gone through all of the blueprints on the shelves, committing all of the information written on them to memory.
‘At the very least I could make use of some of them by the time I get out of the inheritance,’ thought Valyr to himself with a chuckle as he continued to forge the shield. ‘In fact, I can probably integrate that flexible armor blueprint I got once I get around to upgrading True Dragon Armor to its next rarity.’
Continuing to think about how he would go about making use of the blueprints he got from the trial after he left the inheritance, Valyr continued forging the shield, making use of the skills and materials he had access to.
Then again, with how the shield needed less parts and less effort to achieve a high level of quality, it only took a bit more than an hour for the shield to be completed.
Looking at the round metal shield he had created with a slightly proud expression, Valyr went ahead and used his identification skill on it, nodding in satisfaction after seeing that it was Uncommon+ grade in rarity.
Placing the shield near where the crimson dagger was, the young man was about to proceed onto the third item, only to recall something he had not greatly mulled over.
“Huh.”
“Now that I think about it… where did the original Red Blossom go?”
Slightly frowning at the question, Valyr recalled that the last time he had seen Red Blossom was when he had used the weapon against Zeik during their ambush.
After that, it seemed like the weapon had disappeared without a trace, causing the young man to scratch the back of his head as he tried to recall more details around the weapon.
In the end, the young man shrugged his shoulders, shifting back his attention to the matter at hand.
“Well, whatever. If I do try searching for it, it’s most likely in the village anyway.”
With that, he moved onto the third item, crafting a pair of metal knuckles that somewhat resembled the pair he had forged for Tristan in the past.
Though, unlike those knuckles that relied on the concept of opposing elements, these pair of knuckles were quite simple in nature and design.
Then again, the simplicity of the knuckles was made up for through the materials used to forge them in the first place, allowing them to be as sturdy as they could possibly be.
Seeing that the knuckles had been classified as Rare grade by the system, the young man nodded in satisfaction yet again as he moved onto the fourth and final item needed to finish the trial.
‘A sword…’
If there was one item Valyr thought that he had the most experience forging in, that would undoubtedly be the sword.
After all, with him and many players being flung into the medieval world of Veldanyr, the sword was considered one of the staple weapons found in the battlefield.
Aside from that, many players had chosen to take up the sword after seeing the skills the NPCs had shown, leaving him no choice but to become incredibly familiar with how the various sword types were created.
Wryly smiling as he took a brief trip through memory lane, the young man began to peruse through the list of blueprints he had gotten from the trial in his mind as he made his way to the material cache.
Eventually finding a simple enough sword blueprint within the list, Valyr went ahead and took out the materials needed to forge it from the material cache, chucking all of them into the furnace soon after.
Stoking the flames within the furnace to let the materials reach their optimal forging temperature, the young man looked around the surroundings for a bit, only for his eyes to land on the material cache at some point.
Staring at the material cache, a thought popped up in the young man’s mind out of nowhere, prompting him to grab a material from the cache before placing it into his spatial bracelet.
Wondering what would happen, a mocking smile appeared on his face after seeing the material he grabbed disappear the very moment it made contact with the space within the spatial bracelet.
“To be honest, I should have expected that to happen,” muttered the young man to himself, eventually returning his focus to what he needed to do.
Ttang! Ttang! Ttang!
Though he ended up taking a bit more time when compared to the crimson dagger, the young man looked at the shortsword he had forged, nodding as he admired the simplicity amidst its ferocious design.
“I could probably give this sword as a gift to Hal.” Activating his identification skill on the sword, a relieved smile appeared on his face once he checked that the system had classified the sword to be of Rare+ grade.
At the same time, the trial’s monotonous voice resounded throughout the barren land once more, signaling that he had successfully completed the main objective.
‘Through what you’ve shown during this trial, you have shown the Gates of Awakening that your skill in forging is comparable to the skill you’ve shown in combat, both of them extending beyond the confines that shackle you.’
‘However, unlike what you’ve shown in the previous trial, there is a certain refined taste to the way you forge your items, a certain finesse that only those with great experience in the craft can achieve.’
‘That alone is a sign that, like your combat prowess, the limits of your forging lie elsewhere, perhaps at a realm that may only be achieved by the pinnacle among the pinnacle of blacksmiths.’
‘Congratulations, trial taker.’
‘You have successfully cleared the Trial of Four Rarities.’
