Chapter 239 Retaliation
“Argh!!!” Naturally, Valyr let out a cry of pain in response to Leron’s daggers plunging into both of his shoulders.
With a malevolent grin still adorning his face, Leron applied more strength onto both daggers, allowing both of them to dig deeper as he added insult to injury by bombarding Valyr’s back once more with blades upon blades of dark energy.
“Enough!” Feeling that the pain he felt was somewhat becoming overwhelming, Valyr hastily ducked down, removing both of Leron’s daggers from his shoulders before activating [Elusive Dash], only to activate [Serpentine Sprint] after that. With him being free from Leron’s clutches, he went ahead and activated [Inferior Heal], healing all of the health he had lost from Leron’s attacks thus far.
“Let me ask you once more. Where are you going?” Unfortunately, even though he had healed all of the damage Leron dealt to him, his opponent appeared in front of him yet again, infusing his daggers with the dark energy before slashing down in a cross pattern, landing a ferocious attack that pierced through the front of Valyr’s chestplate.
Clang!
Though he could block and deflect Leron’s attacks with his spear earlier, even with the significant difference in strength and agility between them, with the inclusion of the dark energy Leron had summoned, even blocking an attack from him was next to impossible.
With great strength propelling the attack Leron dealt, Valyr was sent flying for a couple meters, landing on his back with a thud as he felt Leron’s presence get closer to him. Then, without even giving Valyr the choice to stand up, Leron slashed out all over Valyr’s body in a frenzy, the dark energy still infused within the daggers he held.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
As sounds of colliding metal reverberated through the silent battleground, the light armor Valyr wore was gradually being stripped off with every attack, revealing the clothes that he wore underneath. Naturally, parts of his clothes were stripped off, revealing skin that gradually became more and more red with each consecutive attack.
“Ngh!” Allowing Leron to land attack after attack on his body as more and more of his armor became damaged thanks to it, Valyr eventually found the opening he needed to break his opponent’s rhythm, mustering all of the strength within his body as he swung his spear in a wide arc, meeting against Leron’s daggers in the middle as both of Leron’s arms were sent flying back.
“[Elusive Dash]!”
Whoosh!
Hastily standing up while Leron was in the midst of regaining control over his daggers, Valyr swiftly put distance between him and Leron with a single [Elusive Dash], taking the time to activate [Inferior Heal] to recover the health that he had lost thanks to his opponent yet again.
‘It’s only the first time I’ve worn this Half Wyvern Armor, but it’s already worse for wear.’ As a bitter smile appeared on his face, Valyr assessed the damage Leron had dealt to the Half Wyvern Armor he was wearing, noticing that most of the damage was concentrated around the chestplate, with the front filled to the brim with both shallow and deep lacerations, while the back of the chestplate was covered to the brim with holes.
Speaking of holes, the pauldrons he wore had large ones due to the sneak attack Leron had employed earlier. Aside from that, the other parts that made up his armor were more or less in the same state, being somewhat covered in layers upon layers of shallow cuts and deep lacerations.
‘In any case, this armor is seriously doing its job.’ With this thought in mind, Valyr watched as Leron appeared before him once more, the grin on his face now devilish rather than malevolent. Soon after, he landed a flurry of attacks on Valyr’s body with the dagger, all with the intent of dealing as much damage to him as possible in order to render him dead.
Though Valyr reacted to his attacks the same way as before, grimacing and letting out cries of pain with every attack, it was only then did Leron notice that Valyr had received a great amount of attacks from him already, yet his opponent still seemed to be brimming with vigor.
Fortunately, a swift look above Valyr’s head was enough for him to answer this curiosity of his, though the sight left a question lingering his mind.
‘What kind of armor does Valyr have?’
‘-2’
‘-1’

Acting as a stark contrast to the incessant amount of attacks Leron landed on Valyr’s body in the hopes of killing him, each attack only dealt damage in the single digits to his opponent, making it seem to the audience that he was just intentionally toying around with Valyr.
Nevertheless, now that he knew that each of his attacks only dealt minuscule damage to Valyr at most, Leron swiftly adjusted the way he adjusted, increasing the speed at which he landed attacks on Valyr as he infused both his daggers and himself with the dark energy surrounding him.
Not long after, the blades of dark energy made another appearance as they dug into Valyr’s back, only for another batch of dark energy blades to appear in front of Valyr as the man eventually gradually turned into a gruesome human porcupine of sorts.
Feeling great delight in the fact that he had inflicted an incredible amount of pain to his opponent, Leron eventually decided to end it once and for all, taking a look at the man before him whose body and armor was covered in a thin layer of crimson.
“You know, it’s been a while since I’ve come across an opponent like you,” said Leron, watching as Valyr slowly moved the tip of his spear towards him, only to put his pointer finger at the tip of it to stop it from moving any further.
“In any case, your only fate at this point is to die by my hands.” Pushing Valyr’s spear downwards, Leron retrieved one of his daggers before posing a question to the man. “Before I do just that, I have one last question to ask you. Something that’s been bothering since earlier.”
“Whose prey is whose again?” As these words came out of his mouth, Leron let out a maniacal cackle. However, this cackle was swiftly interrupted as he noticed Valyr starting to lean towards his left, a light grin adorning his opponent’s face.
Just as he wondered why his field of vision started to change all of a sudden, it was only then did he realizeโฆ
He was falling on his side.
“Whose prey is whose?” Valyr said as Leron was in the midst of falling, as if he had been waiting to say these words all this time. “As if it had ever changed at all.”
“You’ve always been my prey, Leron.”๐ถ๐ณ๐ตxt.๐๐๐
