Chapter 1685: Connections and More Connections

Chapter 1685: Connections and More Connections

’Why am I getting the feeling that you and your companion are connected in some way?’

Hearing Vaughn’s voice echo in his mind, the young man paused in surprise for a bit, only to then be taken aback by the question the former asked him.

Looking around to see if anyone else heard the question he received, Valyr eventually let out an inward sigh of relief, realizing that the question Vaughn asked was only heard by him.

Giving himself a bit of time to regain his bearings, he pondered over the man’s question for a bit before looking at the latter with a slightly mischievous smile.

“You tell me,” said Valyr in response, forming a soundproof barrier around them to make sure the others couldn’t hear what they were talking about. “What do you think is going on between us?”

“Hmm…” Somewhat already expecting a cryptic response to his question, the gears in Vaughn’s mind flared to life, slowly turning as he glanced back and forth between Valyr and Ataraxia for quite some time.

Going through the conversations and memories he shared with the young man while doing so, the man eventually had a rough idea of what was going on, looking at the man with a hint of anticipation and curiosity.

“Does it have something to do with Adam and Eve?” he asked.

“It does.” The young man nodded, not surprised that Vaughn would arrive at that point.

After all, the man caught him off guard back at the Myriad Prodigies Tournament when he revealed he knew who Adam and Eve were.

“…If that’s the case, then that makes the specifics a bit tricky.” Obtaining confirmation from Valyr, the man pondered over the entire thing for a bit more. “I suppose the answer would also border on secrets only you, your companion, and the Administrators know.”

“…More or less,” the young man replied, slightly tilting his head in agreement.

“However, the two of you are indeed connected in some way, yes?”

Valyr nodded.

“Did the two of you go through the trial’s optional challenge?” Vaughn asked after that.

“Nope.” The young man shook his head in response. “If we knew it involved the legacy of the First Myth, then we might have risked it and gave it our all.”

“However, since Sir Quentin wasn’t allowed to give us any information on the reward we would obtain, we thought it was better to play it safe.”

“That makes sense.” The man nodded in understanding, only for him to then look at Valyr with a knowing smile. “It seems you’ll be heading out of this place with the entire legacy, then.”

The young man merely smiled in response, inwardly surprised that the man was able to intuit his connection with Ataraxia to that extent.

Talking about a couple more things after that, Valyr eventually dispelled the soundproof barrier surrounding them, prompting both Quentin and the woman that tagged along with Vaughn to look at them.

“May I ask what the two of you were talking about?” asked Quentin to Vaughn, prompting the woman to look at the latter with curiosity.

“Just did a bit of catching up with him,” replied the latter as he let out a bit of laughter. “Though it may not seem like it, this isn’t the first time the two of us have interacted.”

“Speaking of which, have you introduced yourself to Quentin yet?” asked Vaughn after that, looking at Valyr with a slightly raised eyebrow.

Shaking his head in response, the latter turned to look at Quentin before giving the latter a respectful bow. “Apologies for not introducing myself. I’m Valyr Zeihardt, one of the Zeihardt Clan’s Heralds.”

“To be more specific, he’s the most special Herald out there,” added Vaughn by the side, a playful smile adorning his face. “Not only has he inherited my blood in its entirety, but he’s also the current owner of the Four Pillars’ Inheritance.”

“What?!”

Hearing those words from Vaughn, the woman that accompanied him looked at Valyr with incredulity. “You’re the so-called Anomaly the Progenitor was talking about?!”

“It’s quite rude for you to ask something like that during our first meeting,” replied Valyr, his expression turning serious as he looked at her. “However, that is indeed correct. I am indeed that person.”

“My identity aside, would you enlighten me as to who you are and why you came along with Vaughn here?”

Feeling a hint of sarcasm and anger in the young man’s tone, the woman let out a faint sigh as she responded with a slight bow. “I apologize if we’ve started off on the wrong foot. That was not my intention.”

Looking at Valyr with a calm yet apologetic expression, she began to introduce herself. “My name is Septeine Zeihardt. I’m also a Herald of the Zeihardt Clan.”

“Well, considering the current circumstances, it would be better for me to introduce myself as the Director of the Ocean of Crystallized Truths.”

“…Huh.” As he listened to the introduction she gave him, the young man looked at her in slight surprise, not expecting that someone from the Ocean of Crystallized Truths would be a part of the Zeihardt Clan.

Though, as he thought back to the conversation he shared with Quentin before their arrival, Septeine’s existence at the ocean slowly began to make sense.

After all, who would be better equipped to identify a Herald of the Zeihardt Clan… if not another Herald of the Zeihardt Clan?

“To give you a bit more information, Septeine here is the 4th Herald of the clan,” said Vaughn as he moved closer towards the two of them.

“For reference, the 1st and 2nd Heralds have already left Veldanyr, while the 3rd Herald has unfortunately died to his immense arrogance.”

’So, that means there are only two Heralds back at the Zeihardt Clan,’ thought Valyr to himself after hearing that, briefly recalling the book he read about the clan in the past. ’And here I thought all six of them were still here on Veldanyr.’

’Well, I guess I’m half correct.’

“As for her position as the Director of the Ocean of Crystallized Truths, it’s the highest position one could have in this place,” continued Vaughn where he left off, prompting the young man to nod in understanding.

“Aside from making sure that the ocean is operating smoothly, the Director also has another job, which is to keep an eye on those taking the Trial of Crystallized Truths and inform me about them.”

“So that’s why you’re here,” said Valyr in response.

“Exactly.” Vaughn nodded in return with a smile.

“…Woah.”

Just as Valyr had caught up to speed on various things regarding the Trial of Crystallized Truths, Ataraxia finally let go of the crystal orb, only to then close his eyes as he spent some time processing and organizing all of the information he received.

“Say, Valyr…” Opening his eyes a few minutes later, the young man turned to look at Valyr with excitement as a number of ideas and plans began to form in his mind.

However, just as he was about to voice those thoughts out, he noticed that there were two more people in front of him.
