Chapter 1642: Breaking Barriers: The Final Trial (11)

“…”

“…Was there really a need to use all of your attempts on this trial?”

Asking this question to the young man in front of him, Aeramis could not help but let out a sigh of exasperation as he thought back to the entire sequence of events starting from when he officially declared the start of the fifth trial.

“With the result you’ve shown me after being infused with knowledge from the pedestals a second time, you’ve already exceeded the threshold necessary for me to say that you’ve reached the trial’s limit.”

“Yet, even with that in mind… you still thought of seeing the final trial in its entirety?”

“Pretty much.” Ataraxia nodded at the man’s words, showing no hint of shame nor remorse on his face. “Doesn’t really take a lot of time to come up with my reason if you think about it.”

“Have you decided to see the trial to its utmost end to see if you could subvert my expectations?” asked Aeramis, the thought being a no-brainer for him.

After all, that’s exactly what the young man had done throughout the entire inheritance.

“Way simpler than that,” answered Ataraxia, slowly nudging the man onto the right train of thought.

“Think about the mechanics of the trials you’ve thrown at me so far.”

“…Ah.” Thankfully, that brief reminder was all Aeramis needed to hear to understand the young man’s actions.

Yet, even though he felt that Ataraxia’s actions made a lot of sense in that context, he still felt a hint of annoyance towards the entire situation.

“So, it’s a matter of maximizing the benefits you obtain from my inheritance.”

“Bingo,” Ataraxia smiled in response, the gears in his mind continuing to turn as he focused his thoughts towards the only thing he had yet to comprehend to the level of assimilation.

“I understand that,” replied the man, taking in a deep breath in the process to calm himself. “However, you’ve already gained a lot from my inheritance, especially if I take into consideration what you’ve shown me throughout the previous trials.”

“With that said, is there really a need to exploit the trial’s mechanics to this extent?”

“Aside from pushing my abilities even further, I’d say yeah,” answered the young man after giving it a bit of thought, only to then stand up as he began to make his way towards the pedestals.

With his actions informing Aeramis that he was going to tackle the trial one last time, the young man soon continued where he left off. “I’m sure you still recall the results I’ve obtained during my second try at the trial, no?” Read complete version only at novel fire.net

“Two at the level of assimilation, two at the level near full essence peering, and one at the level of essence peering.” The man faintly nodded, unsure where the young man was leading the conversation. “What do those results have anything to do with my question?”

“…Well, after spending another half year in this place, I’m pretty confident that I could obtain assimilation on all of them,” said Ataraxia, which mildly surprised Aeramis the moment he heard it. “But that’s not why I had you recall my results during the second attempt.”

“Instead, it’s because I feel like when I test my concepts this time around…”

“I might just go past the level of assimilation.”

Whoosh!

Deciding to change his approach on the trial on his third and final attempt, Ataraxia started off his final attempt at the trial by tackling the skills first.

Unsurprisingly, with the amount of time he’d spent comprehending every single node, strand, and concept that made up the three skills he chose, it went without saying that he had achieved the highest possible grade for those pedestals.

In fact, Aeramis did not pay attention to these results either, considering that the young man had already achieved assimilation on all of them during his second attempt.

However, the same could not be said for the concepts.

’Go past the level of assimilation…?’ As these words from Ataraxia lingered in his mind, the man pondered over the possible outcomes that gave the former the confidence to tell him something like that.

Considering that the young man had only showed that confidence towards his comprehension of concepts, it was no surprise that Aeramis was able to narrow it down to a few possibilities.

’The first and most likely possibility is that the scope of his Intent has expanded beyond either Raging Tempests or Tranquil Winds,’ thought the man to himself as he watched Ataraxia’s every move.

’The second possibility is that he’s comprehended the concept to the point that it’s become a bona fide Force… but he hasn’t entered the final realm of mortality yet so that’s not possible.’

’Since that’s the case, then that only leaves one other possibility.’

Pondering over the final possibility a bit more in his mind, the man let out a faint sigh as a hint of anticipation flashed in his eyes.

’If it really turns out to be this one…’

’Then it’s only right that I give him more rewards than before.’

“[Intent of Raging Tempests].”

Whoosh!

Standing in front of the first concept he had chosen for the trial, a calm expression appeared on Ataraxia’s face as he had his Intent clash against the might of the pedestal’s Force.

Though he wasn’t able to push the Intent to a level beyond 1st Grade, the two other opportunities he had obtained to further deepen his understanding of the concept allowed him to make the Intent’s foundations more stable.

In fact, by the time he had prepared everything for this final attempt of his, he felt as if a slight nudge was all he needed to transform his interpretation of the Force into a concept that encompassed something greater than just raging tempests.

’Assessment: 100% Essence Peering, 97% Assimilation.’

Faintly nodding in satisfaction over the results he received from the pedestal, Ataraxia then moved towards the pedestal containing the Force of Tranquil Winds.

Letting out a long exhale as he made his way towards it, the young man soon went ahead and tapped into the connection he had with the world through the concept, causing the aura surrounding him to undergo a massive change.

’Since there’s not much change to his Intent based on the Force of Raging Tempests, then that means the answer lies here,’ thought Aeramis, feeling the strength of the Intent gradually increase as time passed.

7th Grade… 3rd Grade… 2nd Grade…

’A 1st Grade Intent, huh…?’ inwardly muttered the man to himself, faintly nodding as he thought back to the first possibility he had in mind.

’I guess he was able to broaden the scope of the concept before his final atte—?!’

’…’

’What… the fuck?’

’…’

’How in the ever loving fuck did he push his Intent to Legend Grade?!’
