Chapter 1632: Breaking Barriers: The Final Trial (1)

“Although I say it’s the final trial of the inheritance, you could also consider this trial as a reward for your efforts thus far.”

Whoosh!

Just as the young man heard those words leave Aeramis’ mouth, the latter went ahead and released a bit of his energy into the surroundings, briefly forming it into a large ball before splitting it into nine balls of similar size.

Swoosh!

Then, arranging the nine balls of energy in a semi-circle, he had all of them burrow into the ground, causing pedestals made out of solid ground to emerge from those respective spots a few seconds later.

“Huu…” Letting out a soft exhale as he sorted out his thoughts, Aeramis took a short glance at the nine pedestals, only to then nod as he made up his mind on what he would place on each of the pedestals.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Releasing a bit of his energy into the surroundings once more, the man went ahead and did the same thing to it, splitting it into nine parts that would eventually head towards the pedestals.

However, rather than have them burrow in the same spot the nine pedestals were, he instead infused a portion of his thoughts into each portion of energy, with each one containing a certain set of understandings he had comprehended throughout his journey thus far.

After making sure that all of the comprehensions he infused into each portion of energy was at a level where Ataraxia would benefit greatly from it, it was only then did he have the portions of energy move towards the pedestals, slowly morphing them into shapes that reflected the respective thoughts they contained.

“Hmm…?” Although he had watched Aeramis transform the area in front of them into the venue of the final trial from beginning to end, the young man had no idea what the former had infused into the portions of energy he split.

Curious, he went ahead and shifted a portion of his attention towards the pedestal that was nearest to them, which surprisingly caused the portion of energy on pedestal to respond.

Swoosh!

In a matter of seconds, the young man soon received a stream of information from that portion of energy, forcing him to briefly close his eyes to try and process the information as best as he could.

By the time he had gotten an idea as to what kind of information he’d just received, the portion of energy he initially focused on stopped sending him any more information, causing him to look at Aeramis after that because of it.

“I see you’ve already gone ahead and taken a look at one of the marks,” said the man, letting out a faint chuckle out of amusement.

Noticing the slight embarrassment that appeared on Ataraxia’s face because of his words, Aeramis faintly shook his head as he gave the young man an understanding smile. “Don’t worry, you haven’t done anything wrong.”

“If anything, it’s part of the mechanics that make up the final trial of this inheritance.”

Hearing those words, Ataraxia remained silent. Though, his expression was that of interest.

Smiling in response to his gaze, the man proceeded to go through the mechanics of the fifth trial in a bit more detail.

“To sum up what you have to do in this trial, your goal is to inherit and comprehend the abilities and concepts I’ve placed on the pedestals to the best of your abilities.”

Giving the young man a bit of time to process his words, he then continued, “Now, I do not expect you to comprehend any of the abilities and concepts I’ve placed there to completion.”

“After all, each person has their own unique way of comprehending things, whether it be skills, concepts, or the like.”

“Nevertheless, I hope that you reach the essence of the marks you decide to comprehend at the very least, giving you the ability to further comprehend it and reach completion with it even after leaving the inheritance.”

Getting a good idea of how the final trial worked thus far, the young man decided to ask Aeramis a question at this part of the explanation. “How would I be graded during this trial?”

“You would be graded by the marks themselves,” replied the latter, pointing at the nine portions of energy he had placed.

“Though they mainly serve the purpose of sending you the information necessary to comprehend the abilities and concepts I’ve chosen, they also serve as the item that would test your comprehension, checking to see if you have arrived at the essence of your chosen mark.”

“Speaking of which, there are a total of six abilities and three concepts you could choose to comprehend during this trial,” said the man, standing off to the side as he gave the young man the freedom to choose among the pedestals.

“Each of the abilities I’ve infused into the marks are close to the level of True Intent-tier skills, while all of the concepts I’ve infused into the marks all have the potential to reach the level of Forces.”

Hearing those words leave Aeramis’ mouth, Ataraxia, who was just about to approach the mark he looked at earlier, paused as he looked at the man with a hint of incredulity.

Then, forcing the gears in his mind to turn for a bit, he asked the latter a couple more questions for clarification.

“Now that I think about it, am I limited to only choosing one of the marks during this trial? Or am I allowed to choose all of the marks? Would that affect how I’m graded?”

“Also, considering that you’ve given me three attempts for all of the trials thus far, how would those same attempts work in this one?”

“Well…” Pondering over the young man’s questions for a bit, Aeramis eventually looked at him with a calm expression. “To answer your first question, the maximum number of marks you’re allowed to choose is five.”

“This number was not chosen because it coincided with the order of the trial,” the man further clarified. “Instead, you’ve earned the opportunity to comprehend that many marks thanks to your exemplary performance in the trials thus far.”

“Of course, with that many marks, the way you would be graded during this trial would change… though it wouldn’t really change by much.”

Slightly shrugging his shoulders with a smile, the man said, “Rather than have your grade be determined directly by the mark you’ve chosen, what will happen instead is that the grade you obtain from the five marks would be combined into an average.”

“That average shall serve as your grade for the final trial.”

“Now, for your second question, the answer to that is actually quite simple.”

Aeramis softly let out a chuckle. “Each attempt shall serve as an opportunity to receive an infusion from each of the marks.”

“And so, with three attempts and five marks to select for the trial…”

“That comes to a total of 15 opportunities, each one containing information regarding powerful concepts and abilities.”
