Chapter 1622: Breaking Barriers: Skill Recognition

Chapter 1622: Breaking Barriers: Skill Recognition

“Recognize my skill?” Ataraxia frowned for a bit before giving the man an odd look. “Has the system not recognized my skill yet?”

“It has not.” Aeramis shook his head. “You’ll have to inform the system that you’re planning to register the skill before the system recognizes it.”

“…That’s how it works?” said the young man in response, committing the man’s words to memory.

After all, never once did he create a personal skill in his previous life. With that being said, it was no surprise that there was still a lot regarding personal skills that the young man didn’t know.

Nodding in response to Ataraxia’s question, Aeramis continued with his explanation. “It’s incredibly simple. All you need to do is to inform the system of your intent to register the skill, then activate the skill you made after the system informs you that it’s recording your movements.”

“Once you confirm with the system that it has recorded all of your movements, it will then assess the capability of your skill before giving it a proper description, as well as a proper rarity.”

“What kind of benefits would I get if I did that, though?” asked the young man, already understanding the moment Aeramis brought it up to him that having the system recognize the skill he made had benefits.

“Also, would having the skill be recognized mean I would need to register the skill again if I were to upgrade its abilities?”

“To answer your first question, having the system recognize the skill you made greatly reduces the cost to activate it,” answered the man after briefly sorting out his thoughts. “Aside from that, it improves the skill’s capabilities to a certain extent.”

“To give you a frame of reference, if your skill as it currently is allows you to traverse 100 meters in a single movement, having the skill registered might increase that to around 130 or 140 meters.”

Seeing the young man nod at his explanation, the man went ahead and tackled the former’s other question. “As for your second question, you would only need to inform the skill that you plan on upgrading the skill you’ve registered.”

“As what you’ve made is a personal skill, unlike the skills you’ve obtained from various other sources, the system would not assign any levels to it, nor would you have the option to evolve it through the system.”

“Instead, the only way to improve it is practically what you’ve been doing throughout the third trial, just with a bit of assistance and intervention from the system.”

“I see.” With Aeramis’ explanation giving him a better understanding of the skill creation process, Ataraxia went ahead and informed his system that he planned to register a new skill…

Only to then pause just before he did so.

“…Now that I think about it, would the starting rarity of the skill affect the improvement of the skill in any way?” the young man asked Aeramis, who pondered over the question for a bit before shaking his head.

“Not really,” replied the latter. “If anything, a high starting rarity just shows that you’ve laid out a sturdy foundation for the skill you’ve created. Aside from that, there’s no lower nor upper limit to how far a personal skill could go.”

“Got it.” Feeling as if all of his doubts had finally been answered, it was only then did the young man finally continue, sending a command to his system about registering a new skill.

Ding!

[Please execute the movements of the skill. Note that the system shall record all of your movements for quality assessment.]

Receiving a response from the system not long after sending the command, Ataraxia asked Aeramis to move aside for a bit, giving himself enough space to start moving around.

Whoosh!

Then, after discarding the movements the system had recorded beforehand, he went ahead and executed all of the movements making up his new movement skill, operating both circuit and magic circles to their utmost power.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Considering the speed at which he moved with the skill, it was no surprise that his short bursts of fast movement generated strong winds throughout the area.

Though, by the time the system was done recording, it was as if those gales had disappeared without a trace, prompting Ataraxia to turn solemn as he confirmed his recordings with the system.

Ding!

[The system has fully recorded the movements of your self-created skill.]

[Please wait as the system assesses the quality and the effects of the skill…]

Obtaining a couple notifications from the system after that, Ataraxia decided to ask Aeramis how long it usually took for the system to check the personal skill he had made.

Hearing that the checking only took around 10 minutes at most, the young man decided to pass the time by asking the man for information regarding the fourth trial.

Specifically, the mechanics he needed to understand in order to reach the fourth trial’s limit.

“Though I expect you to be able to integrate your movement skill into your main combat style, I do not expect you to be able to do it from the get-go.”

Although he was also curious as to what grade Ataraxia’s movement skill would get from the system, Aeramis set his curiosity aside for the meantime as he took the downtime as an opportunity to give the young man a heads-up regarding the next trial.

“In total, you’ll have to face 11 opponents to reach the limit of the fourth trial, though defeating the 4th opponent is the minimum threshold needed to move onto the final trial.”

“Now, you might be wondering… why 11 opponents?” continued the man, understanding that this question was lingering within Ataraxia’s mind. “The reason behind why is because each opponent showcases a certain level of integration between movement and combat.”

“The first opponent thinks of utilizing movement skills during combat as a mere afterthought, while the opponent after that utilizes their movement skills during combat around 10% of the time.”

“For every opponent after that, the opponent utilizes their movement skills 10% more often than the previous one, with the last opponent being able to integrate their movement skills during combat all the time.”

“Understood.” Though Aeramis’ offer of skipping over the fourth trial still lingered in his mind, that thought immediately disappeared the moment he heard how the fourth trial worked.

After all, part of the reason why he entered the inheritance in the first place aside from obtaining a powerful movement skill was to improve his combat ability.

Ding!

Just as the young man was trying to imagine how the fourth trial worked in his mind, the system finally sent him an update on his skill, prompting him to bring up the notification with excitement.

Though, after seeing what was written on the notifications he received, the young man was left at a loss for words.
