Chapter 1558: The Road to Caplock (3)
Astella City, within the Azure Coalition’s territory.
“Thank you everyone for coming to the guild hall at such short notice.”
Standing behind the podium, Ataraxia looked at his guild members in front of you with a proud smile on his face.
Briefly shifting his gaze towards Thomas and the others, the young man soon took in a deep breath as he began his speech. “I’ve decided to hold this impromptu meeting in order to discuss the general direction of the guild in the future.”
“I’m sure all of us here know that the Azure Coalition is an all-around guild. In other words, that means we’d eventually have all of the capabilities of the specialized guilds, albeit at the cost of taking more time and effort to do so.”
“However, that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea for the guild to spread its focuses thin, especially if we consider the fact that it’s only been the first month or so since Greater Beyond was released to the public.”
At those words, Ataraxia looked at the crowd with a solemn expression on his face. “If we consider that what kind of bonuses our guild has, then I propose that the guild should either focus on becoming a mercenary or information-type guild for the meantime, maximizing the effectiveness of our bonuses.”
“Of course, if anyone has any other suggestions on what direction the guild should head in its early stages, I am all ears.”
With those final words acting a cue of sorts, the members of the guild immediately began to voice out their opinions on the matter, with most of them agreeing with the fact that Azure Coalition would develop faster if it focused on one of the two types.
Then again, there were also those against the idea.
However, unlike the evidence-based suggestion Ataraxia gave them, those that were against it decided to do so based more on emotional and personal reasons.
Naturally, there were also those who rejected the idea because they want to introduce chaos into what would have normally been a smooth-sailing discussion.
Feeling a slight headache coming to surface as he continued to listen to their heated discussions, Ataraxia glanced at Thomas and the others, which prompted the latter group to nod in response as they understood what their friend wanted them to do.
Watching the guild slowly fall into order the moment Thomas and the other three make their move, a faint smile of satisfaction soon arose on the young man’s face, only for it to turn slightly crooked as a familiar voice echoed in his mind not even a second later.
’Hey, Ataraxia. You there?’
’I need your help with something.’
Listening to the messages Valyr were sending to him, Ataraxia went silent for a bit as he used [Soul Entanglement] to look through their shared thoughts.
Briefly shifting his gaze towards the crowd before him, the young man eventually understood what Valyr was doing, prompting him to send a reply. ’Does it have something to do with the arquebus?’
’Yeah,’ replied Valyr a few seconds later. ’I’m planning to upgrade the arquebus’ mechanism to a flintlock.’
’And I’m guessing you need my vision to push it one step further?’ asked Ataraxia in response, which the young man didn’t deny.
’I know it isn’t really necessary,’ said Valyr to him. ’But since I’m going to give it my all on upgrading it, why not go all-out, you know?’
’Also, it’ll act as a bit of assurance… did I mention this would be my first time utilizing the flintlock mechanism on something?’
Continuing to listen to the various discussions his guild members were having on the side, a pensive expression briefly appeared on Ataraxia’s face as he pondered over Valyr’s words.
Eventually, he agreed to the idea, letting out a faint sigh in the process. ’Do I need to be there or something? Are you gonna use [Soul Summoning]?’
’No… I think there’s no need for that,’ replied Valyr, giving Ataraxia the feeling that he was shaking his head. ’I just checked through [Soul Entanglement]’s description for a bit and noted that it mentioned it was possible to share senses between us.’
’Huh…’ Ataraxia raised his eyebrow at those words. ’Then does that mean—’
Whoosh!
Just as the young man was about to ask if his skill would even work in that scenario, Ataraxia was caught off guard as the view of his guild members disappeared all of a sudden, being replaced with the sight of an anvil and a furnace in front of him instead.
Understanding that there was a delay between him and Valyr due to the time difference within the inheritance, the young man forced himself to call down as he tried to use his ocular skill on what he currently saw.
’[Sight of Arcane Origin].’
Swoosh!
Watching his surroundings gradually break down into the multi-colored strands he’d become familiar with, Ataraxia’s eyes slightly widened in surprise once he noticed that the skill applied to the view Valyr was sharing with him.
Feeling a hint of excitement from this discovery, Ataraxia forcefully dispelled the view Valyr was sharing with him, returning his vision back to the ongoing discussions his guild members were having about the future of the guild.
After that, he took some time to calm himself down before sending his next message to Valyr. ’I could use the skill on the sight you shared with me.’
’Great!’ replied the latter, his tone informing Ataraxia that he was ready to get to work. ’To think [Soul Entanglement] removes the need for you to come here…’
’It’s insane.’ Ataraxia faintly nodded in agreement, understanding the train of thought his other identity had. ’However, I wouldn’t be able to share my vision with you for the meantime. I’m still in the middle of a meeting with my guild, actually.’
’Oh… my bad,’ sent Valyr in return, his tone slightly guilty. ’Let me know when you’ll be done, then.’
’It won’t take long.’ Ataraxia assured him, seeing that the discussions from earlier had now begun to die down. ’Give me like 10 more minutes and I’ll help you with that arquebus.’
’Oh, and Valyr?’
’Hmm…?’
’Mind if you craft 80 armor sets for me?’
’…’
’…Actually, make that 120.’
