MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith

Chapter 1402 - 1402: Becoming a Spell Scribe (2)

‘I think…’

‘I think I’ve just struck gold.’

Watching the young man before him deftly maneuver his mana whilst inscribing a certain spell on a piece of parchment, Thaelis’ eyes faintly glimmered with excitement as he thought back to the sequence of events that led up to the current scenario.

Though he wasn’t really supportive of the thought at first, Thaelis eventually accepted Dalton’s request to teach his subclass to a person the latter recommended.

Considering that the old man was the main reason why he was able to get to where he currently was, he thought that teaching his craft to another person was the least he could do to repay the kindness his grandfather had shown him.

Fortunately, both he and Valyr hit it off well from the start, with their personalities melding together as they continued to talk.

In a way, it made him think that accepting his grandfather’s request was still worth it, even if it meant that there was the possibility that he’d only gain a new friend by the end of the ordeal.

However, contrary to his initial thoughts, Valyr began to show a few traits that suited a spell scribe as they got to the basics.

Unsurprisingly, this caused Thaelis to start wondering.

How long would it take Valyr to get a decent grasp at being a spell scribe?

The answer?

Just two days.

Starting the lesson off at mana control, Valyr swiftly showed his deft and gentle control over mana, leaving Thaelis at a brief loss for words.

After all, in his mind, he thought that the person Dalton recommended to him was someone who’d start from scratch, possibly a diamond in the rough with the traits he showed thus far.

Yet, in just a matter of hours, the young man was easily able to grasp the trick necessary to inscribe spells onto parchment using mana.

By the time Thaelis felt like they could move on to the next lesson, Valyr was able to condense mana on his fingertip in a matter of seconds, with it taking on a shape that vaguely resembled the tip of a fountain pen.

After teaching the young man mana control, he then moved onto the main part of being a spell scribe, which was inscribing a spell onto parchment.

With that, the man decided to go into a bit more detail while talking about the elements that made up a magic circle, such as the runes that formed the basis of the spell’s power.

Surprisingly, Valyr only had to listen to his explanation a few times before successfully inscribing a spell onto parchment, leaving the man once more at a complete loss for words.

In comparison, it took him at least hundreds of attempts just to barely succeed in inscribing the basic [Mana Bolt] spell onto parchment, spending at least a couple of weeks on the endeavor.

As for Valyr, it only took him half an hour to understand the gist of the concept…

And then succeed on his very first try.

By that point, Thaelis had pretty much considered the young man naturally gifted in the art of spell inscription, causing him to inwardly wonder why such a person hadn’t been discovered a long time ago.

Though the thought did cause him to feel a bit of jealousy towards Valyr’s talent, the man did not hesitate to suppress it, instead showing excitement whenever the young man got one step closer to becoming a true spell scribe.

“…And done.”

Whoosh!

Adding on the final touches necessary for the spell parchment to work, Valyr let out a faint sigh of relief as he dispelled the mana from his fingertip.

Glancing at the three basic spell parchments he’d inscribed, the young man had a slight grin on his face as he showed them to Thaelis.

“How did I do?”

“[Mana Bolt], [Fireball], and [Lesser Heal], correct?” asked the man after some time, his gaze scrutinizing the magic circles Valyr inscribed.

Receiving a nod from the young man in response, Thaelis nodded back as he proceeded to use the spell parchments one by one, checking to see if the young man had truly succeeded on the final step.

Swoosh!

Infusing his mana into the first spell parchment, a faint smile appeared on the man’s face the moment the spell parchment began to glow, only for a decently-sized mana bolt to shoot out of the parchment a few seconds later.

Nodding at the outcome with satisfaction, Thaelis then moved onto the next two parchments, both of which also successfully activated like the first one.

“Hmm…” After getting a better idea of the effects of the third spell parchment, he closed his eyes for a bit before giving Valyr a pensive expression.

“Though you could still use a bit of improvement in inscribing the conversion runes, your parchments pretty much have the same potency as the basic spell parchments in the market.”

As those words left his mouth, the man soon began to grin. “In fact, I could even say that your parchments are slightly better, especially with how easy it felt to use.”

Hearing those words, Valyr looked back at him with anticipation.

“Does that mean…?”

“You’ve done it.” Thaelis nodded, his grin widening.

“With what you’ve shown me just now, you’re now a true spell scribe.”

“Alright!”

Unsurprisingly, at the very moment he’d gained the man’s confirmation, Valyr clenched his fists in excitement, his expression showing the relief and happiness at finally succeeding.

At the same time, he briefly thought about the past couple of days he spent learning to become a spell scribe, only to wryly smile as he thought about his initial prejudice towards the subclass.

‘Now that I’ve experienced it for myself… being a spell scribe isn’t as boring as the others made it out to be,’ thought Valyr to himself as he eventually calmed down.

“Since you’ve shown that you have what it takes to be a spell scribe, then it’s only natural that the next logical step is for you to obtain the subclass.” As these words left Thaelis’ mouth, the man went ahead and brought a screen in front of him before interacting with it for a bit.

Ding!

Hearing the system go off in his mind, the young man already knew what to expect.

[Thaelis Aurgaun (Lvl. 69) has decided to bestow you a subclass. Would you like to accept?]

Looking at the notification he received, Valyr briefly looked at the man that taught him with gratitude, prompting the latter to look back at him with a smile in return.

“Go ahead.”

“You deserve it.”

Nodding at the man’s words of encouragement, the young man went ahead and accepted the prompt, immediately feeling a newfound source of strength well up within him.

Ding!

However, just as he felt this newfound strength start to spread throughout his entire body, a terrifying sense of pressure began to press down on him once again, causing Valyr to inwardly let out a low sigh as he soon fell unconscious.

“…Fuck.”
