Chapter 1223 A Covert Mission
Chapter 1223 A Covert Mission
With Riekan agreeing to the final condition Valyr set, it went without saying that the two immediately got started with their preparations, with the young man dispelling the soundproof barrier surrounding them as he continued to act as the Caemelio clan’s guest.
Considering that all he needed to do was to land the hit that would ultimately make Cynthia Amerhearst a thing of the past, the young man’s current task until he needed to fulfill his side of the deal was just to act normal.
On the other hand, Riekan tasked himself with setting up the stage that would make sure Cynthia’s eventual disappearance would go unnoticed, deciding to make use of his power and authority as the clan’s founder to have things moving faster than usual.
Of course, as the founder of the Caemelio clan, it also went without saying that he tugged a couple of strings here and there to make the clan pay more attention to the young man and treat him more nicely, making use of the clan’s two Supreme Guardians in order to do so.
“Say, Riekan.” Though he more than welcomed the massive change in treatment he got from the clan in comparison to earlier, Valyr was slightly curious as to how the man was able to pull off something like that.
With that, he made great use of the privilege he’d just obtained from their earlier conversation, quickly sending Riekan a question through the system’s chat feature.
“I know you’re the founder and all, but didn’t you say only a few people in the clan know of your return?”
“Yeah, the two Supreme Guardians are included in those people that know I returned,” replied Riekan not even a minute later. “Aside from me, they wield the greatest authority within the clan.”
“What’s your relation to them?” asked Valyr in curiosity, recalling that Riekan singlehandedly founded the clan he was in. “Your kids? Part of the third generation? Or somewhere later down the line?”
“They’re my kids,” wrote the man in his response, causing the young man to imagine Riekan typing out the message with a smile. “They’re my pride and joy.”
“I see.” Feeling a faint smile creep up on his lips in response, the young man decided to end their conversation then and there, sending Riekan one last message to update him if all the preparations were ready.
And with that, Valyr waited once more.
…
“…So, is everything ready?”
Making sure to adopt a vastly different appearance than the identity he entered the clan with, Valyr slowly walked up to Riekan, who seemed to be gazing at a certain part of the clan estate.
“Yeah, everything’s all set up to make sure her disappearance goes unnoticed.” The man looked back at him before nodding in agreement. “Even went so far as to enlist my sons’ help to move everyone else in the clan as far as possible from her.”
“A meeting?” asked Valyr with a slightly raised eyebrow. “Also, if that is the case, wouldn’t she feel like something’s off if everyone but her was called?”
“It’s more of a lesson from my sons than a meeting,” clarified Riekan. “After all, aside from me, they’re part of the small group within the clan that’s broken through to the Myth level.”
“As for whether or not she’d find it suspicious, I had my sons more than take care of that.” Saying these words, Riekan looked at Valyr with a confident smile. “You can rest at ease.”
“Alright then.” With there not being much he could do to change the preparations that were already made, Valyr slightly shrugged his shoulders as he began to make preparations of his own.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Taking out the arquebus and the items needed to arm it from his spatial bracelet, the young man went ahead and prepared it for firing as he put all of his Points of Aspiration on his DEX.
“Did you choose this spot because it was within the range of what the arquebus could hit?” Closing his eyes for a bit in response to the sudden change in stats, Valyr asked Riekan yet another question related to their current situation.
“Yep.” Riekan nodded in agreement. “Though, with how inaccurate even bows could be if fired at long-range, I decided to choose a spot that was somewhat closer to where she currently is?”
“Where is Cynthia, exactly?” asked Valyr, prompting Riekan to point at the building he was previously looking at.
“She’s currently asleep, seeing as how late it is into the night,” said the man. “Fortunately, her bed is positioned directly at the window you’ll be shooting through.”
“Already had someone open it beforehand to make it easier.”
“Her stats?” With the arquebus now more than ready for firing, Valyr went ahead and asked the man for what he considered to be the most vital piece of information. “Just to make sure I don’t put too much strength into the attack.”
“Here you go.” In response, Riekan brought up a screen containing all sorts of numbers and texts in front of him, only to then move it towards Valyr for him to see.
Whoosh!

“…Huh.” As he read through Cynthia’s stat sheet, Valyr immediately noticed something he didn’t usually see on other people’s status screens. “Uncommon Elite?”
“It’s most likely due to her subclass,” replied Riekan, offering him a quick explanation. “I’ve heard of some subclasses that allow one to gain access to the monster tier system. This is the first time I’ve seen it in person, though.”
“Got it.” Though he felt that it was weird for Cynthia to have access to the monster tier system, even thinking that it might have something to do with her being an inauspicious omen, the young man quickly pushed all of those thoughts to the side as he readied himself.
‘[Limit Break: Second Verse].’
‘[Truth Weaver Scripture: Tetrad].’
‘[Intent of Shadow Energy].’
‘[Warrior’s Eyes of Slaughter].’
Whoosh!
Conjuring a barrier of energy around him to make sure his aura didn’t leak out, Valyr briefly glanced at Cynthia from afar, only to let out a calming breath soon after as he nodded at Riekan.
Nodding back in response, Riekan then went ahead and conjured the magic circle he showed Valyr earlier, making sure to wrap it entirely around the arquebus.
“…Here goes nothing.” With everything now ready to go, the young man confirmed his target one last time as he took in a deep breath before finally pulling on the trigger.
Whoosh!
…
Puchi!
