Chapter 1055: Returning Generosity
Chapter 1055: Returning Generosity
“Hmm. Guess I got my answer, then.”
With his gaze focused on the white Mystic Energy surrounding him, Valyr bitterly smiled as he watched the energy failed to take on the form he had in his mind. “That would be a hard no…”
“For now, anyway.”
At the moment the thought of using Mystic Energy to bring modern technology to reality came to Valyr’s mind, it went without saying that the young man went ahead and used the energy to manifest what he considered an important invention of the modern era.
The computer.
Unfortunately, even though his hopes were elevated due to the fact that his Mystic Energy had no problems accepting the thought in the first place, the amount of energy he currently had was far from enough.
Even with his Mystic Energy at the stage of 1st Cleansing, the cost needed to make the computer manifest through the energy was far higher than he initially thought, with the rough structure of the computer not even showing up for a brief moment.
With that, it went without saying that Valyr became depressed for quite some time after that, only to then come to the conclusion that he needed to set his standards lower.
And thus, he went to the origin of computers themselves, the invention that would eventually make their existence possible in the modern era.
The integrated circuit.
‘…’ Yet, even that spent a lot more Mystic Energy than he initially thought, causing him to briefly wonder whether the heavens were stopping from bringing modern technology to reality in the first place.
Fortunately, unlike his attempt at bringing the computer to reality, he was able to glimpse at the rough structure of an integrated circuit for a fraction of a second, showing him that his pessimistic thoughts were useless.
Taking a bit of time to compose his thoughts, Valyr proceeded to go down the ladder of modern technology, tracing back the timeline in a bid to see what he could possibly manifest with the current amount of Mystic Energy he was in.
With the attempts at manifesting the computer and the integrated circuit being failures, the young man initially set his sights on technology that existed around the era of the Second Industrial Revolution.
Though it could not compare to the impact the computer or the integrated circuit had when it came to the modern era, the Second Industrial Revolution did contain inventions that Valyr thought would be great to have back in Veldanyr.
Of course, among those inventions were the steam engine and the electric dynamo, which was what he and Ryvrthe needed to charge the machine the latter had if they wanted all of the Forsaken Race to learn the current language of Veldanyr.
Sadly, even though those inventions did briefly appear in their entire form before the young man for a few seconds, only their appearance had taken shape in reality, prompting Valyr to continue aiming downward.
With that, he went through the eras in reverse, starting from the First Industrial Revolution before making his way to the Age of Scientific Revolution.
By the time the inventions he had in mind existed during the Renaissance Age, Valyr finally found success in having the inventions manifest before him.
Yet, just like all of his attempts at bringing advanced technology to Veldanyr so far, only the appearance and the form of the invention had arrived in reality, with its function having been lost to who knows where.
In the end, he figured out that even though his Mystic Energy was at the stage of 1st Cleansing, with the current amount of energy he had, he would only be able to manifest inventions from the High Middle Ages at best.
‘… Which would cause many people to become ecstatic for sure,’ thought Valyr as the idea came to mind.
‘But what’s the point of doing that if I could bring far more advanced technologies into existence with my own two hands?’
“I really need to amass more Mystic Energy.” Because of that, it did not take long for the young man to realize what he truly needed to do, returning to where Mystia and Marcus were before sitting down beside them.
Then, keeping in mind the amount of time that had passed in the Mystic Plane thus far, he went ahead and closed his eyes, only to begin absorbing Mystic Energy from the surroundings not long after.
…
“Haah…” Ending what would be his fifth session of absorbing Mystic Energy in a row, Valyr let out a drawn-out exhale as he gradually returned his senses back to reality. Standing up after that, he then proceeded to do a few basic stretches before taking a look at the improvements he’d gained through his status screen.
Ding!
“Hmm.” With his eyes swiftly making their way to the line that covered Mystic Energy, Valyr’s eyes soon glistened with excitement as he quickly went through the calculations he’d gotten used, smiling as a thought came to mind.
‘I’ve finally gotten to 200 points of Mystic Energy per session,’ thought the young man to himself, calculating that he’d gotten about 202 points of Mystic Energy from the session he just finished.
Considering that a session lasted for roughly four hours, that meant that Valyr was now gaining slightly over 50 points of Mystic Energy an hour, a 50% improvement over the rate he achieved the first time he tried absorbing Mystic Energy from the surroundings.
Whoosh!
“…Finally.” While he was in the midst of admiring the achievement he planned on surpassing very soon, a pair of familiar voices echoed throughout the surroundings, prompting Valyr to close his screen as he looked at the two with a smile.
“Congratulations,” said the young man, only to receive a pair of grinning faces back in
response.
“To be honest, we would have probably been stuck at this stage for centuries if not for you.” Taking the initiative to speak, Marcus looked at Valyr with an expression of gratitude before
extending one of his hands out.
Swoosh!
Then, with great confidence, he conjured a wisp of Mystic Energy that was more white than iridescent, signaling to Valyr that all of the impurities contained with the man’s Mystic
Energy were now a thing of the past.
Unsurprisingly, Mystia beside him soon did the same thing, extending one of her hands out before conjuring a wisp of pure Mystic Energy as well.
Seeing the two showcase the Pure stage of Mystic Energy with great glee before him, the smile on Valyr’s face began to widen as he decided to extend his hand out as well.
Whoosh!
Conjuring a wisp of Mystic Energy at the stage of 1st Cleansing before their very eyes, it was no surprise that the two had their attentions affixed on the white wisp that appeared atop
Valyr’s palm.
Though they knew it was still Mystic Energy from the sensation it gave off, as well as the faint iridescence that surrounded it, the Mystic Energy Valyr currently wielded looked different
from the Mystic Energy the two of them had.
Which only meant one thing in their minds.
“That’s… the next stage of purification, right?” asked Marcus.
“Yeah. The 1st Cleansing stage.” Valyr nodded in response. “There’s more stages after this
one, actually.”
“Is that so?” Naturally, Marcus was interested to find out what those stages were after the young man mentioned it.
Though, before Valyr could begin to explain the next five stages that came after the stage of 1st Cleansing, Mystia interrupted the conversation between the two with a light cough. “Frankly, I’m as curious as Marcus in regards to the stages of purification,” she said to Valyr, taking a calming breath before continuing. “However, I can’t help but feel like we have to give something back to you in some way.”
Though Valyr was slightly confused what Mystia meant by that, that confusion was quickly cleared up as the woman continued her words.
“From greatly contributing to the Mystic Plane, to acting as its Guardian, to even resolving a problem I thought would take the greater part of a few centuries…”
“Even though you’ve only been here for a short time, you’ve already given the Mystic Plane
far more than we’ve asked for.”
“And thus, I… we want to show our gratitude for your contributions somehow.” As these
words left Mystia’s mouth, she glanced at Marcus, who looked back at her in confusion in
response.
Though, with a couple of strands of energy being exchanged back and forth between the two, that confusion gradually disappeared, eliciting a solemn expression to appear on Marcus’ face as he nodded back at Mystia.
Nodding back at the man, it was only then did Mystia look back at Valyr before opening her mouth once more. “Since we only have a couple days left in this place before you have to leave the Mystic Plane for the meantime, let’s save the other stages of purification for the
meantime.”
“Instead, I plan on teaching you the art of alchemy as much as possible over these next couple of days,” said Mystia, causing Valyr’s body to start trembling with excitement. “Aside from that, I also plan to teach you a style of alchemy that involves the usage of Mystic Energy,” she continued. “It’s what I rely upon the most as the Imperial Alchemist, though I’ve yet to teach it to either Vera or Aloe due to circumstances.”
Hearing that he was going to be the first at obtaining something others had yet to obtain, the excitement Valyr felt intensified, prompting him to suppress the emotion as it seemed that Mystia had more to say.
“With that, I suppose it’s only right to start the learning session with this.”
As those words left Mystia’s mouth, she looked at Marcus and gave a nod, to which the latter responded by nodding back before opening up a screen before him.
Interacting with the screen in front of him for a brief moment, the man soon had a smile on
his face as he looked at Valyr the moment he was done. “This is a show of our sincerity, as well
as our gratitude.”
Ding!
Hearing the system go off in his mind, Valyr nodded in response to Marcus’ words before
telling the system to bring up his notifications.
Though, once he did, he immediately looked back at the two with a shocked expression, to which they responded by looking back at him with kind smiles.
[Marcus of the Mystic Plane (Lv. ???) has decided to bestow you a subclass. Would you like to
accept?]
