Miss Witch’s Devotion Has Gone… Twisted
Chapter 685: Opened Up in One Second
Loren also put away his playful mood and began to take things seriously.
From the moment of his transmigration up to now, Loren had always conducted himself with extreme prudence. It was absolutely impossible for him to leave behind even a trace of evidence. Even if Sherlock Holmes came back to life, he wouldn't be able to find a single clue.
This was a world of magic, and there were simply too many ways to erase all traces.
Ordinary methods simply couldn't track Loren down a trail, let alone lead anyone to Ofemia's place.
Soon Loren thought of a possibility. The Tarot cards. He still remembered that the Wheel of Fortune card was in the hands of a detective.
That detective did have some brains, but he couldn't really be considered a good person.
He solved cases not for justice, but for his own reputation.
Originally, Loren had planned to go find him after he'd built up a certain reputation. He hadn't expected the man to dare set his sights on Loren on his own initiative. He probably saw Loren as a tool to boost his own fame.
Since that detective could find this place, then it was possible he had also found Cecelia's home...
Loren's expression instantly darkened. He would absolutely not allow the witches to be threatened.
Then Loren quickly opened the envelope, wanting to see what that detective was actually playing at.
Inside, besides a letter, there was also a map attached:
"Respected Master Mentor, greetings. I am a detective. How fortunate, I have discovered your trail. I never expected that you would actually be colluding with vampires. But that is not strange either. This group of vampires was already at odds with the Church. Colluding with you is only natural.
"Furthermore, I have discovered a very crucial point. You and your witches spent a long period of time staying inside a rather unremarkable house. I imagine that place must be your hideout.
"Unfortunately, I have a premonition. If I go near that place, I will certainly die. In the end, I could only temporarily retreat..."
Reading up to here, Loren's killing intent had already become impossible to suppress.
The effect of the Wheel of Fortune was to make a scene from a certain place at a certain time replay. Loren guessed that the detective had used this method to find Loren's trail. Then following it all the way, he learned of Loren's movements, and naturally discovered that Loren had been staying at Ofemia's house during this period.
However, Loren wasn't worried that the detective would tell the Church about Loren's information. What he wanted was fame.
If he told the Church, and the Church's operation succeeded, the credit would go to the Church's high-ranking members. If it failed, the fault would be his.
Telling the Church would at most earn him some rewards. That wasn't what the detective needed. What he wanted was to be world-famous.
Right now, the most famous person in this world was Loren. So if he wanted to become world-famous, the best method was through Loren.
And Loren's guess wasn't wrong. The contents following the letter had the detective wanting to arrange a meeting with Loren:
"You may rest assured that I have not told many people about this information, especially not the officials.
"I have long admired your name. I wish to meet you. The location is the spot marked on the map. I will be waiting here. I hope you will come soon."
"..."
Loren silently picked up the map and glanced at it. The marked spot was in the wilderness. Loren could figure out with his heel that there had to be an ambush there.
That detective was very smart, very arrogant, very full of himself, so he was also very easy to deal with. Loren didn't take him seriously at all.
"What are you going to do?"
"Go over and teach him a lesson."
What Loren loved most was making these types of people who thought they were the protagonists face reality.
"Anna, after I finish dealing with that detective, you come back here to play, it's not safe here right now.
"You go back and find the others. Hide somewhere more secretive.
"The only reason he could find us is because of the Wheel of Fortune card. And if he wants to deal with me, he has to bring the Wheel of Fortune card with him. So as long as I can kill him on the spot, I can get the Wheel of Fortune.
"After that, even if he has teammates, they won't be able to find us."
"What about me?"
Seeing how serious Loren was, Ofemia got a little panicked too. She was also afraid of being dragged into it.
"You? Pray for yourself."
Loren glanced at Ofemia, then flew off directly. He planned to go over early. Every second sooner Loren found him was another second he would have less preparation time.
Loren could absolutely play it safer by having Gwen turn into his appearance and go test out that detective. But honestly, there really was no need.
First of all, Loren had already reached the point of being invincible beneath the Orthodox Gods. And second, Gwen had also developed a sentient consciousness. It wasn't convenient to send her off to die.
Soon Loren arrived at a stretch of desolate wilderness. This place was incredibly remote, and incredibly barren.
Forget people and animals, there wasn't even a single plant. Barren to a certain degree.
Even if the Bountifulness here had been stripped away, it wouldn't reach this extent. Clearly something was off about this place.
There was a tent here. It was the only object in the area connected to humans.
This should be the detective's dwelling, but Loren knew that given the detective's nature, he wouldn't stay in such an obvious place.
So Loren directly activated Blood Moon Condensed Light, annihilating the tent along with everything inside it.
Even if there were people inside, it didn't matter. Tarot cards were indestructible, the highest level of indestructibility. Loren wasn't worried about damaging the Tarot card.
Sure enough, Loren's guess was correct. There was nothing inside the tent.
"You really are direct... If I had been inside, I might really have died."
At this moment, a person dressed like a detective suddenly drilled out of the ground. There was a tunnel here. The detective had been hiding inside it the whole time.
"You're even stupider than I imagined. If I'd known earlier, I would've just plowed this whole place over and killed you outright."
"But didn't you still go and attack my tent that was just a decoy?"
The detective revealed a smile, seemingly pleased at having outmaneuvered Loren.
Loren couldn't be bothered to argue with him over who had actually outmaneuvered whom. He directly stated the detective's personal information:
"Your name is Sher, you're a detective, a Uridia native. You've always wanted to become world-famous. You once wrote novels, but the sales of your novels aren't even one ten-thousandth of 'Master Mentor Falls in Love With Me.'"
Sher had always wanted fame, so his information was easy to obtain. The reason Loren hadn't gone looking for him before was out of concern that his interference would prevent Sher from obtaining the Tarot card.
"You investigated me?"
Even with Loren having revealed so much of his information, Sher was still confident. He didn't believe he would lose to Loren.
"You dared to request a private meeting with me, just relying on the Wheel of Fortune card? Aren't you looking down on me a bit too much?"
Seeing Loren state the key point, Sher finally began to panic. But Loren's words weren't finished yet:
"The Wheel of Fortune card can replay things that once happened in a certain place. It can be paused at will, and you can also choose whether there are physical forms during the replay. You used this card to find me.
"The reason you asked me to come here is most likely because this place was an ancient battlefield, and you want to attack me by replaying the events that happened here. Am I right?"
Seeing Sher's expression like he'd eaten shit, Loren knew he had guessed correctly.
