Chapter 200: Chapter 141: Demon Eater Hunter

"Oh, look at that, my silly son. What’s with that expression? Don’t tell me you didn’t get my letter?"

As Jack Moria spoke to Lian, his eyes never left Nancy Stuart.

Even with his many wives and mistresses, not a single one could compare to Nancy Stuart’s beauty. This made the little old man’s nose tingle with emotion as he lamented internally, ’It truly is a case of one generation planting the trees so the next can enjoy the shade. If it weren’t for me, would Lian Moria have such a handsome face? Such a distinguished family background? Such a mountain of debt?’

’Well, the debt part can be ignored. That was all for his own good.’

Lian’s mouth twitched. He moved to shield Nancy behind him. ’This old coot, he’s so old, can’t he show a little restraint?’

Upon hearing Tauriel’s name, Nancy Stuart’s lovely brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. She felt an inexplicable sense of crisis.

She had met Catherine, who couldn’t compare to her in either temperament or looks.

As for Sophie, she was a flower yet to fully bloom and posed no threat, not to mention she was a Witch.

Dora, like Sophie, was a Witch. A Witch’s lifespan was already limited, and on top of that, Empire law forbade Witches from marrying. It certainly wouldn’t allow a Witch to become some man’s mistress—that would be tantamount to misappropriating state property.

Anna and Annie were Spies and Assassins she herself had trained. Everything they knew, she knew. Even if Anna was indeed quite clever, Nancy Stuart was confident she would never lose to them.

Only Tauriel was the exception.

She was the High Tower Witch, Tauriel Hall, hailed as the Empire Rose.

A peerless beauty, praised as one whose equal would never be seen again in the entire Holy Empire.

Even in her childhood, she had already outshone all other women. As she grew older, her beauty garnered even more attention.

If the Royal Family didn’t forbid marriage with the Creed Clan, she might have become the Holy Empire’s youngest Queen.

Count Hall was one of the Empire’s most powerful counts. His wealth far surpassed that of the Jackson Family. It was said that if Count Hall were to defect, the Holy Empire’s entire financial revenue would be cut in half.

Count Hall was also one of the main shareholders of the Imperial Capital Bank—in other words, Old Moria’s true creditor.

Tauriel Hall was of noble status, belonging to neither the Church Court nor the Guardian Bureau. She had always been protected by Count Hall, who never allowed her to use any magic that would overexert her.

The Empire did not allow Witches to marry, but she was the sole exception.

Seventy percent of the Empire’s young nobles had dueled for her, merely for the chance to make her smile.

And that was just what most people knew. According to intelligence from the Rose Thorn, Tauriel not only possessed peerless beauty, but was also exceptionally talented in magic.

Although the Count had never let her use her magic, he had still hired many tutors for her. Archbishop Damir of the Church Court was one of her teachers.

Damir had once said that her talent for magic was second to none, but he had also warned her to never use restricted magic. This was the secret to ensuring she could have a long life just like a normal person.

Even so, she had created many spells that didn’t affect the magic power channels in her body. This series of spells was collectively known as Fairy Tale Magic.

And so, Tauriel also came to be known as the "Fairytale Witch."

Fairy Tale Magic possessed no destructive power, but it could create delightful surprises and bring more convenient ways of life to people.

For example, pumpkin carriages were a common sight on the streets of the Imperial Capital. These carriages were shaped like pumpkins and required no beasts to pull them. A simple Magic Array was all it took to grant them Speed and Power, and their speed was comparable to a trackless train.

How could Nancy Stuart not be wary of such a woman becoming Lian’s wife?

She would rather Lian’s wife be Catherine; she would never want his wife to be a Witch who combined beauty and power, wealth and status, all in one person.

"I received your letter, but I can’t leave right now."

Lian’s refusal took Jack Moria by surprise.

After all, he had already explained the stakes in the letter. Besides, he had paid a hefty price to convince his future daughter-in-law in such a short time.

If Lian insisted on marrying Catherine, he might be able to return to the Moira Family, but he would likely become a pawn in the games of the Empire’s powerful elite.

Duke Moria was no benevolent man. A man in his high position was adept at using all the resources around him, including his own children and descendants.

Jack Moria understood his father. The olive branch he extended was not so easily accepted; a huge conspiracy was likely hidden behind it.

"Why? Do you think Tauriel is somehow inferior to the orphan of the Jackson Family?"

Jack Moria asked, "Or have you been so blinded by a small gesture of goodwill from Duke Moria that you’ve lost your own judgment?"

"The Seven Great Creed Families are forbidden from intermarrying. You should know that the Moria Clan and the Hall Clan cannot be joined by marriage."

Lian said.

"Of course, that’s impossible. But your name hasn’t been written into the family register yet. Strictly speaking, you’re not yet a member of the Moria Clan. I trust you don’t want to go to the Imperial Capital and get caught up in the schemes of those bigwigs, or be sent to guard the Northern Territory and face those terrifying monsters, right?"
