Chapter 163: Chapter 125: The First Mistress

[My dearest Catherine,

I often think of the wonderful time we spent in the Golden Forest, of your graceful figure and enchanting voice. I miss your gentle scent and your soft words of care. I have only just left your side, yet I already long to be back in your arms. I cannot wait for our wedding day.

It’s just that we still have many trials to endure. This time, I will be negotiating with Mary in Yusofa. You may hear some unpleasant rumors about me. Mary will stop at nothing to drive a wedge between us. She might send the most beautiful vipers to seduce me or spread the most vicious rumors to wound me. Please, trust no one but me. Those with ulterior motives are always looking to profit from war.

Your loving fiancé, Lian Moria.]

[My dear Anna,

I miss you and your hand-ground coffee very much. I’m having a hard time adjusting to life without you. I no longer have a friend by my side who is as considerate and observant as you, one who always gives the best advice. Your massage skills are top-notch, too. My shoulders miss you even more than I do. I hope everything is going well for you in the Green Shade Territory.

I’m engaged to Catherine. You probably already know this, but it was bound to happen. I hope you aren’t too sad. Focus on your work and wait for me to return. I’ll bring you a gift. If you hear any rumors about me, please don’t believe them. They are all part of Mary’s schemes.

Annie is fine here with me. I’ll look after her like a little sister. If only she could keep her mouth shut and stop slandering my reputation... Oh, she’s such a headache. I’d be so happy if she were even half as sensible as you.

Your great and selfless master, Lian Moria.]

[My Sophie,

Forgive me for being too busy to write to you lately. I have asked my most loyal servant to deliver a different flower wreath to you every day, and I hope you like them. How is your Kingfisher? If it dies, I’ll send you two turtles.

I know you may not be in the best of moods lately, having heard some rumors about me. But please believe me, those are just false masks I must wear to survive. Only the me that is with you is the real Lian—a simple Lian, who seeks no profit or reward.

I look forward to our next rendezvous—in a deserted blacksmith shop, in the forest under the moonlight, in the open fields. I will take you anywhere you want to go. I will gift you a one-of-a-kind blade. I will weave the most beautiful flower wreaths for you.

Your Lian.]

After finishing the three letters, Lian let out a long breath. He stuffed the papers into their envelopes, addressed each one, and then opened them up again for one last check, terrified of mixing them up.

The one to Anna was fairly normal, but if Catherine’s and Sophie’s letters got swapped, it would be a huge problem.

"Let me help you mail the letters."

Dora’s eyes were shining. She clearly wanted to peek at what he’d written.

Lian immediately rejected her offer.

"Miss Magic Box, you’re a proper Witch. How could you do something as menial as mailing letters? Get Anderson for me."

Lian said to the guard standing watch outside the tent. The guard quickly brought Anderson to Lian’s tent.

As Lian’s confidant, the young man had grown a great deal in a short time. His Loyalty had already reached its peak.

Lian was confident that Anderson would never peek at his letters.

"Anderson, help me send these three letters out. Remember, do not mix them up."

"I guarantee the task will be completed."

Anderson excitedly took the letters and left the tent.

"So, what did you write?"

Dora lay on the bed, propping her chin on her hands, her calves swinging cheerfully back and forth.

Annie had gone out to train in the middle of the night, and Nancy Stuart had returned to her own tent, leaving Dora and Lian an opportunity to be alone together.

Lian looked at Dora, who was trying to take over his bed, and said with a straight face,

"I expressed my love for Catherine and my friendship toward Anna and Sophie. Miss Magic Box, if you want to perform a Cleaning Entry, I suggest you go take a bath."

Dora didn’t think she smelled bad, but since Lian had said so, she decided to go take a bath anyway.

Having successfully tricked Dora into leaving, Lian lay back down on his bed, sprawling out in a star shape to leave no room for her. He then told the guard at the entrance not to let anyone else in.

Lian slept very well that night, even dreaming of the Eye of Misfortune.

"Turn her into an exhibit in the Museum of Misfortune and give her to me. I will grant you Power."

This was the message the Eye of Misfortune conveyed to Lian.

When Lian woke up, he found the mischievous Witch Dora straddling him and doodling on his handsome face.

"Magic Box, how did you get in?"

"A guard is no match for a Witch."

"What time is it now?"

Lian rubbed his bleary eyes.

"A time when the moon and stars have not yet been replaced by the sun."

Dora stood up, stepping on Lian with her fair feet. She was incredibly light, and it felt as if she had almost no weight at all.

The hem of her white skirt swayed with her light steps, like a white rose blooming in the night.

"I’m ready now. Come on, perform the Cleaning Entry for me."

Dora said cheerfully.

Lian just wanted to go back to sleep. His encounter with the Eye of Misfortune had been far from pleasant.

He closed his eyes and said nonchalantly, "Get off me. I’m tired and want to rest. I have to negotiate on Catherine’s behalf tomorrow."
