He Shu laughed coldly and said, “Are you saying that Chairman Wang has no choice? What if someone else had something to say about this?”
The deputy chairman was caught by surprise and did not quite understand what He Shu was driving at. He was not alone, the rest of the people in the room were equally puzzled.
Some noise could be heard coming from the conference room door. Soon, a few uniformed police entered the room. “Which one of you is Qin Zheng?”
When the police entered looking for Deputy Chairman Qin, everyone turned to glance at each other before looking at Qin Zheng quizzically.
Qin Zheng stood in front of the conference table with his hands on the edge of the table. He instantly looked worried but quickly composed himself and replied. “Are you looking for me? Why do you want to see me?”
The police standing at the lead walked over to Qin Zheng and showed him his badge. He said, “A lot of people have gone missing and we suspect your involvement in the matter. Please come to the police station with us, so we can interrogate you.”
The moment he finished his sentence, everyone looked at Qin Zheng in bewilderment and could not believe their ears.
Qin Zheng could sense everyone staring at him in disbelief. He did his utmost to compose himself and continued smiling genially. “Sir, is there some mistake? I’m a law-abiding citizen. Why would I have anything to do with these missing people?”
The cop in the lead could not help laughing inside when he saw the calm look on Qin Zheng’s face. If not for the evidence they already possessed, he might have fallen for Qin Zheng’s act.
“I’m sure you know best whether this is a mix-up,” said the cop mildly.
The cop in the lead gestured to the cop beside him. Two officers promptly stepped forward and flanked Qin Zheng as though they were trying to stop him from running.
The smile on Qin Zheng’s face instantly disappeared. Since he was the chairman of the Apothecaries’ Association, he was naturally acquainted with the top brass of the police department. How could these lowly cops embarrass him?
When Qin Zheng refused to cooperate, the cop in the lead reached his hand out and said coldly, “Please come with us.”
“This is purely slander. Why should I go?” protested Qin Zheng expressionlessly. He said to his assistant nearby, “Call my lawyer now and tell him to take care of this.”
The assistant snapped out of his shock and quickly acknowledged Qin Zheng. He hurriedly took out his phone and called the lawyer.
Qin Zheng veered his eyes and looked at the cop. “You have no evidence, so I’m not going with you. My lawyer will be here shortly. If you have any questions, please direct them to my lawyer.”
Qin Zheng remained completely calm and even insisted on sending for his lawyer. He Shu could not help feeling worried and turned to look at Zhuo Yun.
Zhuo Yun simply shook his head and gestured for He Shu to stay calm.
He Shu veered his eyes, but he could not help fretting.
Qin Zheng had been doing criminal things for years, but he never got caught. This meant his boss had a very long reach. If he managed to get away with it today, god knew what would happen.
After talking to the cop, Qin Zheng sat down and acted as though he were innocent and completely unafraid of the cops.
The cop in the lead seemed to see this coming. He turned and said to the cop beside him, “Call Team B and get an update from them.”
“Okay.” The cop took out his phone quickly and made a call.
Qin Zheng suddenly had an ominous feeling about this.
