Chapter 1130 - 145: Meeting Xiao Siyun
Chapter 1130: Chapter 145: Meeting Xiao Siyun
In the Imperial Study, the emperor glared angrily at Zhao Yao, but did not speak for a long time.
Zhao Yao ignored the furious emperor and instead turned his gaze to a palace maid walking in with tea.
The palace maid appeared to be around fifteen or sixteen years old, with a beautiful appearance and fair skin.
Zhao Yao thought to himself: This palace maid should be his future princess.
The emperor, seeing that his son was not looking at him but had his eyes on Xiao Siyun, let out a dissatisfied snort.
Zhao Yao pretended not to hear him.
Xiao Siyun carried the tea, head lowered, and walked towards Zhao Yao. As soon as she entered the Imperial Study, she noticed Prince Han’s gaze. Her heart suddenly raced, and she approached Prince Han nervously, step by step.
As she reached Zhao Yao, Xiao Siyun’s heart was pounding fast. She secretly took a deep breath, steadied her nerves, and said calmly, "Please have some tea, Prince Han."
Zhao Yao gave Xiao Siyun a deep look, then reached out to take the tea cup.
Xiao Siyun gave a courtesy bow and respectfully retreated.
Zhao Yao’s gaze followed Xiao Siyun until she exited the Imperial Study, only then did he withdraw his eyes.
The emperor picked up a memorial and threw it at Zhao Yao.
Zhao Yao reached out and caught the flying memorial steadily.
"Have you seen enough?" the emperor said sarcastically, "Shall I call her back in for you to look to your heart’s content?"
Zhao Yao defiantly rolled his eyes at the emperor, "Isn’t she my future princess? What’s wrong with looking a bit more?"
Just as the emperor raised his tea cup to drink, he paused his action upon hearing this. He looked at his youngest son with surprise, "What did you say?"
"Isn’t Xiao Siyun the princess you chose for me?"
The emperor was shocked, "How do you know?"
Zhao Yao raised an eyebrow and retorted, "Shouldn’t I know?"
The emperor narrowed his eyes slightly, looking sharply at Zhao Yao and said with a feigned seriousness, "You have quite the courage."
"Wasn’t it you who deliberately let me know?" Zhao Yao was not afraid of the emperor’s stern face.
Suddenly, the emperor laughed, "Not bad, you didn’t disappoint me."
Zhao Yao did not respond to the emperor, quietly lowering his head to sip tea.
"You brat, don’t you have anything to say to me?"
"Father, what do you want me to say?" He had already said everything in secret letters.
"You were assassinated, and I didn’t send anyone to protect you, aren’t you angry?"
"This is Father’s test for me, why should I be angry." Zhao Yao mimicked the emperor’s earlier sarcastic tone, "Father’s testing me is an honor."
Instead of getting angry at his youngest son’s mockery, the emperor laughed heartily.
"I see that there’s some anger in your heart."
"Not angry." Zhao Yao was truly not angry, "Father, surviving wave after wave of assassination wasn’t to pass your test. I struggled to survive attacks from assassins because I wanted to return to the capital alive to see my mother, not for your test."
"You only want to see your mother and not this father of yours?"
Zhao Yao replied without hesitation, "I don’t want to."
The emperor was incensed by Zhao Yao’s words, pointing at him in anger and cursing, "Rebellious son!" Ungrateful brat!
Zhao Yao, scolded, was unfazed, slowly sipping his tea.
The emperor walked towards Zhao Yao and knocked his youngest son on the head with the memorial he held.
"You brat."
"Father, I dislike tests and don’t want to be tested by you." Zhao Yao looked up, meeting the emperor’s eyes seriously, "I think my elder brothers would enjoy your tests, you can test them as much as you like."
Hearing this, the emperor marveled to himself: This brat truly knows everything.
"What am I testing you for?"
Zhao Yao did not answer.
"Testing you?" the emperor laughed mockingly, "Do you think I have nothing better to do?"
"Father is busy with countless state affairs, naturally not idle." Zhao Yao retorted mockingly, "Father has no time to test me, that’s truly wonderful."
The emperor cursed inwardly: This cunning little brat.
"Now, let’s talk about Fifth Brother’s matters."
"Father, don’t you already know?"
"I want to hear you explain in detail." The emperor gestured to a chair, indicating Zhao Yao to sit down, "Tell me how you dismantled Fifth Brother’s forces abroad."
Zhao Yao didn’t hold anything back, reporting everything to the emperor in detail.
The emperor listened intently while sipping tea.
Outside the Imperial Study, Sun Kui and Sun Doudou were chatting.
"Master, aren’t you going in to serve?"
"Prince Han has important matters to report to His Majesty, I’m not suitable to be inside." Sun Kui understood well that there were things he could hear, and others he couldn’t. "If His Majesty needs serving, he will call for me."
