Ministers Begging Me to Ascend the Throne

Chapter 1127 - 144: Reunion of Mother and Son

Chapter 1127: Chapter 144: Reunion of Mother and Son

Sun Kui could clearly feel that the Emperor was in an excellent mood today. On most days after breakfast, the Emperor would complain a bit and express reluctance to attend court meetings, then slowly make his way to Zichen Hall. Today was different; after breakfast, the Emperor even hummed a tune, whistled, and walked briskly towards Zichen Hall.

"Your Majesty, Prince Han is back, and it seems your mood has greatly improved."

"Really?" The Emperor had his hands tucked in his sleeves, a smile lingering at the corner of his mouth, "My mood is always good."

"Your mood is especially good today."

The Emperor lifted his foot and kicked Sun Kui’s rear. "You talk too much."

"This servant deserves punishment."

"After the court session, grab that brat back here; Xiao Xiao is eagerly waiting."

Sun Kui thought to himself: Your Majesty, it’s you who are eagerly waiting.

Previously, the Emperor was quite indifferent about Prince Han’s life or death, saying if Prince Han couldn’t return to the capital safely, it would be proof of his incompetence. Now that Prince Han has returned, the Emperor appears all joyful.

Sometimes, Sun Kui really didn’t know whether the Emperor cherished Prince Han or simply regarded him as a tool.

"Your Majesty, Prince Han has returned and may have had a tiring journey. If you go after the court session, the Prince might not be awake yet." Sun Kui thoughtfully suggested, "Maybe I should invite Prince Han over at noon so you, Prince Han, and Lady Liang can have lunch together."

"I didn’t say I’d have lunch with that brat." The Emperor snorted, "Then get him before noon."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Inside Zichen Hall, civil and military officials had already stood in line and tidied their attire. Seeing the Emperor walk in, they rushed to salute: "Greetings, Your Majesty. Long live, long live, long, long live."

"Rise, all of you."

Listening to the Emperor’s tone, the officials deduced that the Emperor was in a great mood today.

The ability to read the Emperor’s mood was an essential skill for every official. Though they couldn’t fathom the Emperor’s intentions, they could ascertain his mood through observation.

It seems the Emperor’s mood is exceptionally good today; has something wonderful happened?

I heard Prince Han arrived in the capital last night, could it be that he’s brought back many treasures?

Has Prince Han truly returned?

Yes, he’s at Prince Chu Mansion now.

The officials possessed another skill: they could communicate using just their eyes, without uttering a word.

It was already the twelfth lunar month, and soon the court would close. During these days, there were numerous affairs to handle in the court. Every morning session lasted at least two hours.

Today, there were a lot of matters, so by the time the session ended, it was almost noon.

Without even a sip of tea, Sun Kui hurriedly went after Prince Chu.

Prince Chu, upon hearing Sun Kui was going to his residence to find Zhao Yao, brought him back to the mansion.

On the way to Prince Chu Mansion, Prince Chu chatted with Sun Kui about family matters.

Zhao Yao had just woken up, waiting for Prince Chu to return to have lunch, but instead, he got "captured" to the palace by Sun Kui.

When they arrived at the palace, Zhao Yao didn’t follow Sun Kui to see the Emperor but went directly to Kunde Hall.

"Your Highness, aren’t you going to see the Emperor?"

"I’ll see my mother first." Zhao Yao said to Sun Kui while running, "I’m starving, let me have a meal with my mother first."

"Your Highness, wait..." Before Sun Kui could finish his words, Zhao Yao had already run off. Even if he wanted to chase him, he couldn’t.

When the Emperor saw Sun Kui return alone, he quickly asked where Zhao Yao was. Sun Kui told him truthfully, which made the Emperor furious at Zhao Yao.

"Your Majesty, will you have lunch alone or head to Kunde Hall for lunch?"

"I’m already full from anger; why bother with lunch." Seeing his youngest son return to the palace without first visiting him made the Emperor quite angry.

"Shall I fetch Prince Han from Kunde Hall?"

"I don’t want to see him." The Emperor huffed.

Sun Kui held back his laughter and said, "Then let me assist you with lunch."

"Not eating."

After coaxing for quite a while, Sun Kui finally got the Emperor to go to the dining hall to eat.

The Emperor didn’t go to Kunde Hall for lunch, intending for Lady Liang to have a good talk with Zhao Yao.

In Kunde Hall, mother and son had already met, both shedding tears.

After catching up, Zhao Yao began to devour his meal heartily.

"The dishes made by mother are always delicious."

Hearing this, Lady Liang felt both joy and pity.

"Eat slowly, don’t choke."

"Mother, I’m really famished." He had slept until noon, his stomach growling with hunger.

Afraid that her son would choke from eating too quickly, Lady Liang quickly ladled a bowl of soup for him.

"Drink some soup quickly."

Zhao Yao took a few sips of soup and hurriedly resumed eating.

Watching her son wolf down his food, Lady Liang felt a mix of helplessness and affection.
