Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion

Chapter 124: The Seventh Sacrifice

  • Next Chapter

The darkness lasted three seconds.

But Dillan experienced three years.

He stood in an endless white space.

No walls.

No ceiling.

No floor.

Only a single wooden chair.

And The One Who Stays.

She was sitting in it.

Her body was still fading.

Fragments of her existence drifted away like ash.

Dillan rushed toward her.

"Don’t disappear!"

She raised her hand.

"Stop."

He froze.

Her voice was different.

Not weaker.

Stronger.

"I said I wanted to choose."

Dillan clenched his fists.

"Then choose to stay."

She smiled faintly.

"That’s still you deciding what I should choose."

The words pierced him.

Behind Dillan, the Abandoned Self appeared.

The four-year-old boy stood barefoot in the white emptiness.

He stared at The One Who Stays.

Then at Dillan.

"You’re doing it again."

Dillan turned.

"Doing what?"

"Trying to save someone before asking what they want."

Dillan’s jaw tightened.

The child hugged his wooden toy.

"You always do that."

A Name Without Chains

The One Who Stays stood.

Her fading stopped.

Not because the System restored her.

Because she had made a decision.

"I don’t want to be The One Who Stays anymore."

Dillan looked at her.

"Then what do you want to be?"

She looked toward the empty sky.

For the first time, there was no hesitation in her eyes.

"I want to be someone who can leave..."

She looked back at him.

"...and still be welcomed when I return."

The white space trembled.

SELF-DETERMINATION DETECTED.UNREGISTERED IDENTITY REQUEST.PLEASE PROVIDE DESIGNATION.

She closed her eyes.

A memory surfaced.

A flower crown.

The oak tree.

A little boy promising to create a name no one could take.

She had spent so long believing a name was something another person gave her.

Something that tied her to a promise.

Something that prevented her from being forgotten.

But now...

She could choose.

She opened her eyes.

"Evelyn."

Dillan’s expression changed.

Evelyn, standing in the distant darkness, suddenly gasped.

The room returned.

Everyone was there.

Sasha.

Aurelia.

Alina.

Dana.

Lyra.

And Evelyn.

The One Who Stays stood before them.

Her fading body had stabilized.

The System displayed a new notification.

IDENTITY DESIGNATION ACCEPTED.NAME: EVELYN.SOURCE: SELF-SELECTED.OWNERSHIP STATUS: NONE.ANCHOR STATUS: VOLUNTARY.

Evelyn stared at her.

Tears filled her eyes.

"That’s my name."

The One Who Stays turned toward her.

"No."

She touched her chest.

"It is mine now, too."

Evelyn’s lips trembled.

For a moment, neither moved.

Then Evelyn stepped forward and embraced her.

The One Who Stays stiffened.

She had forgotten how to receive affection without owing something in return.

Slowly, she raised her arms.

And held Evelyn back.

The Child’s Question

Dillan looked down.

The Abandoned Self was standing beside him.

The boy watched the two Evelyns embrace.

"Are they the same?"

Dillan considered the question.

"Not exactly."

"Then why do they have the same name?"

"Because a name doesn’t decide who someone is."

The child looked at him.

"Does yours?"

Dillan went silent.

The boy’s expression softened.

"What’s your name?"

Dillan almost laughed.

"Dillan."

"Just Dillan?"

"Just Dillan."

The child nodded.

Then he held out the wooden toy.

"Can I have a new name too?"

Dillan knelt.

"What would you like?"

The boy thought for a long time.

"I don’t know."

"That’s okay."

"Will you choose it for me?"

Dillan shook his head.

"No."

The child’s face fell.

Dillan gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"But I’ll help you find one."

The boy looked up.

"Promise?"

Dillan smiled.

"I promise to ask you first."

The child smiled back.

For the first time, Dillan felt the presence inside his chest relax.

The System’s Rejection

The moment lasted only a heartbeat.

Then every window in the room shattered.

Not physically.

Conceptually.

The System flooded the air with notifications.

VOLUNTARY ANCHOR STATUS DETECTED.CONTRACT STRUCTURE DESTABILIZING.SEVEN ANCHORS NO LONGER OPERATING UNDER ORIGINAL OWNERSHIP PARAMETERS.CORRECTION PROTOCOL INITIATED.

Sasha’s expression darkened.

"Again?"

Lyra drew closer to Dillan.

"Something’s wrong."

The floor beneath Evelyn turned black.

A voice emerged from the walls.

Cold.

Mechanical.

Yet strangely familiar.

"A person cannot belong to themselves."

Dillan’s eyes narrowed.

"Who said that?"

The voice answered:

"The version of you that made the first rule."

The Abandoned Self began trembling.

Dillan immediately stepped in front of him.

"Stay behind me."

The boy gripped Dillan’s coat.

The blackness spread across the floor.

A silhouette emerged.

It had Dillan’s height.

Dillan’s posture.

Dillan’s face.

But its eyes were empty.

The System displayed:

ORIGINAL CREATOR PROTOCOL: ACTIVE.AUTHORITY: DILLAN RUREN.CURRENT HOST: UNAUTHORIZED.OBJECTIVE: RESTORE ORIGINAL OWNERSHIP.

The false Dillan looked at the group.

Then pointed toward Evelyn.

"Return what was given."

Dillan stepped forward.

"She isn’t property."

The false Dillan tilted his head.

"You created the rule."

"I changed it."

"You are the consequence of your own creation."

The Abandoned Self whispered from behind him:

"Don’t listen."

The false Dillan smiled.

A smile Dillan recognized.

His own smile.

The one he wore when he pretended everything was under control.

"You already listened once."

The oak tree appeared behind the false Dillan.

Its branches stretched across the ceiling.

And hanging from every branch...

were names.

Sasha.

Aurelia.

Alina.

Dana.

Lyra.

Evelyn.

Dillan.

One name remained blank.

The false Dillan reached toward it.

"One anchor is still missing."

The blank name began to form.

Letter by letter.

Dillan’s blood turned cold.

Because the name being written...

was not a person’s name.

It was a command.

ANCHOR SEVEN: THE ONE WHO MUST BE SACRIFICED.

The Abandoned Self screamed.

And Dillan heard his own voice answer from somewhere beneath the tree:

"This time, it won’t be me."

The command hung beneath the oak tree.

ANCHOR SEVEN: THE ONE WHO MUST BE SACRIFICED.

Dillan stared at it.

Then he looked at the false version of himself.

"Who are you?"

The imitation smiled.

"You already know."

"No."

"Then why are you afraid?"

Dillan’s fingers curled.

Behind him, the Abandoned Self trembled.

Sasha moved beside Dillan, her eyes fixed on the false creator.

"Whatever you are, you’re not him."

The false Dillan turned toward her.

"Incorrect."

His empty eyes glowed crimson.

"I am the version of him that never changed his mind."

The floor cracked.

Aurelia grabbed Alina’s hand.

Dana pulled Lyra away from the spreading darkness.

Evelyn stood motionless, staring at the names hanging from the tree.

Her name was flickering.

Not disappearing.

Being rewritten.

EVELYN: ANCHOR STATUS REVOKED.REPLACEMENT DESIGNATION: SACRIFICIAL VESSEL.

Dillan stepped forward.

"Leave her alone."

The false Dillan tilted his head.

"Why?"

"Because she chose."

"Choice is irrelevant when the original rule demands preservation."

Dillan’s chest tightened.

"The original rule was changed."

"By whom?"

Dillan pointed at himself.

"Me."

The false Dillan’s smile widened.

"Then prove you are still the creator."

The Price of Refusal

The oak tree shook.

Seven roots erupted from the ground, each one wrapping around a different girl.

Sasha’s root tightened around her ankle.

Aurelia’s wrapped around her wrist.

Alina’s pierced the floor beside her.

Dana and Lyra were dragged backward.

Evelyn’s root climbed toward her throat.

Dillan rushed forward.

"LET THEM GO!"

He grabbed Sasha’s root and pulled.

The bark split beneath his fingers.

A sharp pain tore through his arm.

The false Dillan watched without moving.

"You see?"

Dillan gritted his teeth.

"You talk too much."

He summoned the power of the System.

Nothing happened.

No weapon.

No skill.

No convenient notification.

Only pain.

The false Dillan’s voice echoed around him.

"You built a world where every rescue requires a sacrifice."

Dillan pulled harder.

"And I’m tearing it down."

The root snapped.

Sasha fell forward.

Dillan caught her.

For one brief moment, her face pressed against his chest.

Then she whispered:

"Don’t do this alone."

Dillan looked at her.

"I don’t have a choice."

Sasha’s eyes sharpened.

"That’s the problem."

The Six Who Refused

Aurelia raised her hand.

A pale light emerged from her palm.

The root around her wrist began to dissolve.

"I already chose my future," she said.

Her gaze turned toward the false Dillan.

"You don’t get to choose it for me."

The root shattered.

Alina stepped forward next.

Her preservation mark burned across her arm.

"I was saved once because someone else made a decision."

She clenched her fist.

"I won’t let that become a reason to obey forever."

Her root disintegrated.

Dana looked at the darkness surrounding her.

"I remember what happened."

Her voice shook, but she didn’t retreat.

"And I choose to keep remembering."

The root released her.

Lyra smiled.

It wasn’t her usual smile.

There was no softness in it.

No hidden calculation.

"I haven’t decided what happens next."

She stepped away from the root.

"So stop pretending you know."

The darkness recoiled.

Evelyn remained trapped.

Her root had reached her neck.

The false Dillan turned toward her.

"One must be left behind."

Evelyn looked at him.

Then at Dillan.

"No."

The false Dillan frowned.

"You were created to stay."

Evelyn’s expression hardened.

"I was never created to obey."

The root around her neck tightened.

Dillan felt something inside his chest tear open.

The Abandoned Self screamed.

The Boy Beneath the Tree

The four-year-old Dillan stepped out from behind him.

His small body shook.

But he didn’t hide.

The false Dillan looked down at him.

"Return to your place."

The child clutched his wooden toy.

"No."

"You are an abandoned fragment."

"I know."

"You are unnecessary."

The child glanced at Dillan.

Then at the girls.

Then at Evelyn.

His voice trembled.

"But they aren’t."

The false Dillan’s eyes flashed.

"Your fear created me."

The child swallowed.

"Maybe."

"And your loneliness gave me purpose."

"Maybe."

"Then you belong to me."

The child shook his head.

Dillan knelt beside him.

The boy reached for his hand.

Together, they faced the false creator.

The child whispered:

"He doesn’t belong to you either."

The false Dillan’s expression finally changed.

For the first time...

he looked angry.

The Creator’s Contradiction

The System flooded the sky.

CONTRADICTION DETECTED.ORIGINAL CREATOR CLAIMS AUTHORITY OVER CURRENT HOST.CURRENT HOST REJECTS CREATOR AUTHORITY.RESOLUTION REQUIRED.

Dillan stared at the false version of himself.

"You want authority?"

The false Dillan said nothing.

"Then answer one question."

The tree fell silent.

Dillan tightened his grip on the child’s hand.

"If you’re the original creator..."

He stepped forward.

"...why did you abandon him?"

The false Dillan froze.

The Abandoned Self looked up.

Dillan continued.

"You made the rule that nobody gets left behind."

His voice grew stronger.

"Yet you left the most important part of yourself beneath that tree."

The false Dillan’s face began to crack.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

A thin line appeared across his cheek.

Then another.

Behind the cracks was darkness.

Not an entity.

Not a monster.

A frightened child.

The same child Dillan had been.

The false creator whispered:

"Because someone had to carry the pain."

Dillan’s expression softened.

"Then you should’ve carried it with him."

The false Dillan stared at him.

Dillan reached out his free hand.

"You don’t have to be alone either."

The false creator recoiled.

"No."

"You can stop."

"No!"

The tree erupted with crimson light.

Every root tightened.

Evelyn cried out.

Sasha grabbed Dillan’s shoulder.

The false creator screamed:

"IF I STOP, EVERYONE DISAPPEARS!"

The entire world fractured.

The Seventh Choice

The System’s final notification appeared.

ORIGINAL CREATOR PROTOCOL: FAILURE.PRESERVATION INSTINCT: UNSTABLE.ALL ANCHORS: CRITICAL.NEW CHOICE GENERATED.THE HOST MUST SELECT ONE EXISTENCE TO PRESERVE.

Six names appeared.

Sasha.

Aurelia.

Alina.

Dana.

Lyra.

Evelyn.

Then a seventh name appeared.

Dillan.

The Abandoned Self looked at the list.

His face went pale.

"Dillan..."

"I see it."

The false creator laughed through his broken face.

"Choose."

Dillan stared at the names.

The roots tightened.

The girls struggled.

The System waited.

Then Dillan smiled.

Not because he had found the answer.

Because he had finally understood the trap.

He raised his head.

"I reject the choice."

The false creator stopped laughing.

Dillan’s voice echoed beneath the oak tree.

"Nobody gets preserved by sacrificing someone else."

The System flashed violently.

INVALID RESPONSE.

Dillan stepped forward.

"Then make it valid."

HOST CANNOT ALTER ORIGINAL CONTRACT.

"Watch me."

The Abandoned Self lifted his wooden toy.

A tiny crack appeared across its faceless surface.

Inside it, a faint light began to glow.

The child whispered:

"You forgot the last part."

Dillan looked down.

"What last part?"

The boy smiled.

"You promised the world would remember."

The wooden toy broke apart.

Every name hanging from the oak tree ignited.

And somewhere beyond the darkness...

a voice that did not belong to Dillan spoke.

"Then let the world remember what you did."
