Mindless Beasts
Chapter 97: Pyschological pressure
Silence filled the auditorium the moment the Prince entered the building and was escorted to his seat by the Commandant.
Officially, the ceremony had started and students sat upright at the edge of their seats patiently waiting until it was time for the Prince to do his speech.
After handing out a few awards, the Commandant gave his speech about all the improvements done during his time and the direction he wants to take the academy in the future.
When the applause died down the Commandant said, "Everyone please stand and give a warm welcome to our specially invited guest, Prince Auroron of the Ephedra Empire!"
Cheers and applause erupted in the auditorium as the young Prince took to the stage.
Prince Auroron held massive global fame and magnetic energy.
He knew how to work the audience and started his speech by standing completely still on stage in a dramatic pose for a minute or longer.
This suspense built intense psychological pressure and sudden emotional releases in the audience, as the omegas were most affected and a few even fainted from excitement.
Pleased with the adoration from the crowd, the prince finally took hold of the microphone and finally began his speech.
He took over the stage and had the audience spellbound, "Happy 175th Anniversary Paradise Military Academy! It’s a pleasure to be invited to speak at such a momentous occasion..."
Prince Auroron walked around the stage while engaging the audience, the lights were dimmed so that all the spotlight would be on the prince only.
"Paradise Military Academy is known for being a trendsetter, the first educational institution to show that guides and sentinels didn’t have to be separated and could coexist peacefully..."
Everything about Prince Auroron’s stage presence was perfect, his deep melodic voice was amplified through speakers throughout the auditorium.
There were sponsors and parents online watching the live feed and wishing they could have been at the anniversary ceremony in person.
"Even my cousin Khaldun Wolfe is currently enrolled at Paradise Military Academy and..."
Everyone at the academy knew that Khaldun Wolfe was a Royal Alpha but they didn’t know he was directly related to the prince.
The students loved that the prince was spilling the tea by outing his cousin and already this bit of hot gossip was already circulating on the top chat forums.
Finally Prince Auroron wrapped up his speech to a rousing standing ovation from the audience.
Which was infectious and Sly Foxx couldn’t help but enthusiastically clap happily alongside his classmates.
After the anniversary ceremony was officially over in the afternoon they resumed their regular schedule and Sly’s school life returned to normal.
Just as Dean Drakos wanted, Verde had him for an hour before classes started and Khaldun also had Sly for an hour after the school day ended.
Days turned into weeks and pretty soon October was drawing to a close, mid term exams were around the corner.
Everyone was feeling the stress of exams and Sly Foxx was no different, the stronger his abilities grew the hungrier he felt.
Cassian had heard Sly ate a lot but couldn’t believe it because he was always petite in size.
He challenged him to a lunch eating contest, today’s specialty was spaghetti and meatballs and everyone gathered in the main cafeteria to see who would be the champion.
Khaldun rubbed his temple, he had been forced by the Commandant to give his insufferable cousin a tour of the Paradise Military Campus and babysit him these past few weeks.
He hadn’t seen much of Sly due to exams and putting up with the Prince’s excessive demands.
Khaldun had asked Terrence to spy on Verde’s practice sessions with Sly so he knew that the A+ alpha had not been bullying Sly.
In fact, Sly had shown remarkable improvement in using his spirit plant powers for both attack and defense.
Did he feel guilt for spying on Sly and Verde, no he didn’t, in fact he wished Sly wouldn’t meet with Verde alone but until Sly became his exclusive guide he couldn’t put a stop to that.
Realizing that he was thinking about Sly again Khaldun glanced at his watch, it should be lunch time and due to study sessions, Sly tended to eat most of his meals with his classmates at the main cafeteria.
Prince Auroron had gotten on his last nerves, saying that Khaldun was allowing the little omega guide to affect his emotions.
The prince wasn’t exactly wrong, sentinels were at their peak when they were free of all attachments.
But his relationship with Sly wasn’t the prince’s or anyone else’s business, even though Sly seemed to show no remembrance of any past memories.
Khaldun still instinctively knew that the young man was the person from his memories; he just was unable to prove it.
Suppose Sly wasn’t the person and his real fated mate came along would he be able to willingly leave Sly?
Prince Auroron’s perspective made sense that they shouldn’t have too much involvement, if he cannot be sure that Sly was his fated mate.
There was the annual school ball coming up which was held after exams where guides and sentinels from neighboring schools got together and there was a possibility to meet a potential match then.
So getting too close too soon wasn’t good for either of them but Khaldun didn’t want to hear that.
That’s why rather than punch his cousin in the face he chose to walk away and go find Sly since it had been four hours since he’s last seen him.
He hated to admit that his cousin was right, it felt like he was having withdrawal symptoms when he was separated from Sly for too long.
Khaldun kept remembering the night when he had turned Sly down.
Sometimes he felt like he was being deliberately cruel to Sly, especially when Sly clung to him and looked at him with hurt.
Then Khaldun Wolfe returned to his senses before he knew it.
Khaldun was already making his way over to the main cafeteria.
Even before he reached the cafeteria, Khaldun could tell it was noisy inside, there were clapping sounds and loud cheers drawing attention and more curious onlookers.
