Mindless Beasts
Chapter 109: Garden of Illusions
On the day of the physical exam the Commandant gave a short speech to motivate and encourage the students to do well on their tests.
Since this exam was conducted individually every student had to enter a special pod to do their exam.
This pod was specially designed to monitor their spiritual energy and after a brief analysis would select a test ground most suitable for the students abilities.
All of the guides sitting the physical exam entered the spiritual capsules at the same time.
Some didn’t even last ten minutes when they were ejected from the device of course a handful of the failed students were from Instructor Emma’s class.
Instructor Emma couldn’t mask her disappointment as she had sacrificed a lot and worked overtime generously with this bunch.
The moment the spiritual capsule closed over his head Sly Foxx woke up in another world.
He had been transported into a garden filled with nothing but flowers as far as Sly’s could see, nothing but endless fields of vibrant, tropical flowers that smelled like his pheromones.
Sly remembered Dr. Jennings’ advice that the most beautiful things are often the deadliest.
Thanks to Verde’s numerous tests at his uncle’s laboratory, Sly knew that he had an immunity to most toxins and poisons so he wasn’t feeling overwhelmed.
He awaited instructions for what Sly needed to do to pass the test but none came.
Still, who could resist the allure of such beautiful flowers, Sly found himself happy about the exam conditions, some of the flowers smelled very sweet.
Sly plucked a handful of the sweeter smelling flowers just to drink the delicious nectar as he wandered around the garden aimlessly.
Mimosa opened his eyes, was this really a simulated test, Mimosa grabbed a handful of flowers to eat.
Parasite thankfully was still in a coma after his battle with the wasp queen so Mimosa didn’t have to worry about him showing his ugly face anytime soon.
Just as he thought these were all real S-tier spiritual plants, someone had carefully watered and cultivated them.
He had been starved for spiritual plants and Mimosa quickly made his way through the sea of plants, the more he devoured, he could feel the improvements on his physical body immediately.
That was until he was attacked by small mutant sprites but Sly was quite a few distance away, his gaze distracted by a half buried object to notice what was happening to Mimosa.
When Sly first landed in the Garden Of Illusions these tiny mutant sprites no bigger than a thumb hid behind the flowers out of fear.
They would observe the male and slowly penetrate his subconscious until they learnt all his fears and weakness and use it against him.
Mimosa was a delightful addition to the garden and would make a wonderful appetizer to the main course.
At first they also just observed Mimosa from the shadows until the mutant sprites finally noticed that their once large numbers had started to dramatically decrease.
Unlike the oblivious human who was still blissfully unaware of their presence this sneaky s-tier guardian deity was aware of their presence the entire time.
If these mutant sprites could speak they would be cursing at Sly for dragging this Mimosa pestilence into the Garden of Illusions.
To these poor creatures Mimosa emanated a terrifying aura that nearly parlazed them all with an entirely new and unique instinctual fear, they had never encountered the likes of Mimosa before today.
They had no choice but to call upon their king who was in hibernation, even though they feared their king’s wrath waking him early before time, they felt they had no choice, they were simply not a match for this weed that kept devouring their garden like a spiritual vacuum.
Awakened, the mutant sprite king caused the earth to tremble from his wrath but neither Sly nor Mimosa paid the minor tremors any mind.
From the shadows, the split eyes of a gigantic earthworm observed them as it increased its speed at an alarming rate and made its way to the surface from the deepest, darkest bowels of the soil.
Mimosa had been secretly using parasite’s devouring black mist to eat the numerous tiny mutant sprites as he also picked the more appealing of the S-tier plants to replant in Sly’s spirit landscape.
Having consumed so many of these obnoxious mutant sprites Mimosa’s mood had improved significantly and he was almost back to his normal jovial self to the dismay of the dwindling mutant sprites.
After devouring and plucking so many spiritual plants the Garden of Illusions started to lose a bit of its glamor and started to look a bit barren behind Sly’s back.
Yet the gluttonous Mimosa was still far from satisfied and craved more of these mutated delicacies, he simply wanted more.
Just then Sly stumbled over a small body, it belonged to Khaldun Wolfe!
Khaldun was half buried in the garden and Sly immediately sank to his knees and started frantically digging in a bid to unearth Khaldun’s body from the flower garden.
"Khaldun, is it really you?"
"What are you doing half buried in this garden?"
"Did something go wrong with your mission?"
Numerous questions spilled out of Sly’s lips but Khaldun just stared at him blankly and remained mute.
Sly got so confused that either Khaldun couldn’t hear his voice or something spiritual was restraining Khaldun from speaking.
The little omega anxiety started to climb and continued to escalate the more Khaldun remained silent.
He even tried prying open Khaldun’s mouth to feel the warmth of his breath, yet nothing changed which was very abnormal that Khaldun had no reaction to Sly’s interference.
After ten more minutes passed, Sly’s expression had grown way more intense.
Suddenly Khaldun started smiling at him with this creepy expression that Sly had never seen before on his face.
The last thing Sly expected under such conditions was for Khaldun to be grinning at him like a maniac.
Sly put some space between his and Khaldun’s body, they were both still in the center of the endless field of flowers.
Every step Sly took he crushed the beautiful flowers beneath his heels as Khaldun’s grin began to widen, so did Sly’s fury at being deceived.
