Chapter 5028: Meeting

Chapter 5028: Meeting

“Alright, we understand.” The others silently took note.

“For the time being, I’ll personally oversee her meals here at our residence! You three will assist me. Come, let’s head to the kitchen first.” He gestured, briefly addressing his wife before leading his three sons out.

At noon, Feng Jiu led the three children into town, guided by Mi’er. Before leaving, Mi’er had informed her parents, who thus knew their father would be cooking that evening. Dinner tonight would be back at the manor.

As Mi’er and Feng Jiu’s group departed, the manor bustled with preparations for the evening meal. Meanwhile, most of the Song household had already forgotten about Ke Meng, who remained recuperating in the guest quarters.

Ke Meng learned that the head of the Song family and several young masters had returned, and the household was bustling with activity. Sitting in her courtyard, lost in thought, she realized her situation within the Song family was truly awkward.

She wasn’t quite a guest, nor was she an old acquaintance of the Song family. There were no ties binding her to them. Lady Song had visited her courtyard only once that day and hadn’t returned since, seemingly having forgotten her entirely.

The Song family had kindly allowed her to stay and recover, and she was grateful. Her wounds were gradually healing. Yet, as her physical injuries improved, a growing sense of anxiety and restlessness took root within her.

For she had no idea where she would go next.

After sitting in the courtyard for a while, lost in thought, she stood up and began to walk out. With nowhere to go and no way out, sitting here in a daze wouldn’t solve anything. Better to go out for a walk to clear her mind and see what the Song family was busy with.

Ke Meng, clad in a simple white gown, possessed such exquisite beauty. Combined with the faint sorrow in her brow, she radiated an aura of tender vulnerability that stirred pity in others.

As she walked through the estate, the guards couldn’t help but glance at her.

As long as she avoided restricted areas, no one stopped her. Thus, as she strolled, she found herself unconsciously approaching the main courtyard.

She thought she should properly thank Lady Song for allowing her to recuperate at the Song residence. Unexpectedly, before she even entered the main courtyard, Lady Song emerged from within.

“Madam,” she curtsied and addressed her.

“Miss Ke, what brings you here?” Lady Song inquired, her gaze flickering slightly as she studied Ke Meng before her.

A woman’s charm lies in her simplicity. This saying held true.

As a fellow woman, Lady Song observed her in plain white robes, a small white flower pinned in her hair, her face free of makeup. Yet, she possessed a fresh, otherworldly beauty that evoked pity and affection.

Hearing her words, Ke Meng paused before replying, “I’ve been recuperating in the courtyard. Having been confined for so long, I found myself walking here without realizing it. Seeing the servants so busy, I wondered if there might be anything I could assist with?”

“I see,”

Madam Song smiled. “Miss Ke is our honored guest, and with your injury, you should focus on recuperating. Those chores are for the servants—you mustn’t trouble yourself.”

Her voice paused briefly before continuing, “My husband and three sons have returned. As an unmarried young lady, moving about the estate during your recovery might prove inconvenient. Unless something urgent arises, Miss Ke, you may simply send a servant to attend to your needs.”

Hearing this, Ke Meng’s eyes flickered slightly. She lowered her head and said, “Very well, I understand. I shall return to my room now and not disturb you further, Madam.” With that, she gave a light curtsy before turning to leave.
