Mercenary’s War

Chapter 2667 - 2641: Capital

Grand Ivan has more money than Gao Yang, more influence than Gao Yang, but now Gao Yang understands his advantage over Grand Ivan: his identity is clean.

Thanks to years of careful caution, thanks to Gao Yang’s efforts to hide his identity, and thanks to Morgan as a guide, Gao Yang has the opportunity to blend into the ruling class of America.

No matter how rich Grand Ivan is, he cannot achieve what Gao Yang has accomplished, simply because although Gao Yang is a mercenary who kills without remorse, his public identity in America is clean. So, while his money hasn’t reached the point of buying everything, with Morgan’s support and promotion, he gained this status many years earlier.

A moment of realization comes in an instant; some things can never be understood unless one is in that position, but once there, it all naturally falls into place.

Looking at the thinner-than-before Morgan standing in front of him, Gao Yang suddenly had the urge to hug this man, who is a friend, a partner, and almost like a father to him, and cry his heart out.

But Gao Yang refrained from doing so and dialed a number, embodying the more reserved nature of a Huaxia person.

"Hi, Mr. Gao, I’m pleased to receive your call. You’ve been busy, I’ve tried calling you several times but couldn’t get through."

"Sorry, I’ve been spending more time abroad lately."

After Gao Yang finished speaking, Morgan made a downward cutting gesture in front of him, signaling to go straight to the point and cut to the chase.

"Andrew, my friend, I need you to do me a favor."

"Please, go ahead."

"Here’s the thing, you know that among my numerous assets, the PMC business is quite important, especially Solar System Company."

"Of course, I know that, Solar System Company has been growing rapidly recently, congratulations to you, Mr. Gao."

"Thank you, but recently I’ve encountered some trouble, to be exact, Solar System Company has run into trouble. Our business is mainly overseas, and as you know the PMC business, recently the CIA seems to have set its sights on my company, although Solar System Company is very clean, once targeted..."

"Oh, I understand, Mr. Gao, I understand. How about this, shall we arrange a time to meet? Is it convenient for you now? I’d like to invite you for a drink to celebrate our friendship."

Morgan laughed, making a gesture implying "as expected," and then smiled while raising his brows at Gao Yang.

Gao Yang let out a breath and said, "Oh, sorry, I’m at a friend’s place in New York right now, at Morgan’s house."

"Are you at Mr. Reeves’ place? Oh, please convey my regards to Mr. Reeves. So, when is it convenient for you to come to Houston, or perhaps I could come to see you?"

Gao Yang quickly replied, "Well, I’ll be heading to Houston the day after tomorrow. I’m hosting a small cocktail party, so I’m sincerely inviting you to attend this party, Morey..."

Morgan pointed at himself, and Gao Yang immediately said, "Morey and Morgan will both be attending. It’s a private but very casual party, you can bring your wife and friends along."

"Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Gao. I might bring some friends along also; we’ll see each other then the day after tomorrow."

"I’ll be looking forward to your presence. Goodbye."

After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang let out a long breath, then immediately showed a face of regret and said, "Oh no, I’ve never organized a cocktail party; I overlooked a very important thing—I didn’t mention the time."

Morgan chuckled, "Andrew didn’t ask either. That’s how it is. Now Andrew needs to search for people who can solve your problem. Of course, he won’t just decide right away; he will contact you to confirm who he can invite to attend your party. Anyone who attends is someone decided to help you. You scheduled it for the day after tomorrow, which is quite hasty; normally it should be a week."

Gao Yang asked, "What should I do then?"

"Don’t worry, setting it for the day after tomorrow shows you’re in a hurry, and Andrew will try to arrange accordingly. If he feels unable to deal with it, he’ll call and reschedule. Morey and I are like your guarantors, so our schedules can be disregarded."

Gao Yang appeared enlightened, "Are there these intricacies in this?"

"Of course, everything has its rules. Let me think; your issue would need around four or five Congressmen, at least two Senators to stand for you."

"So many big figures involved?"

"No, no, you’re misunderstanding. You’re building your path now; Andrew is the bridge, and others are your path after crossing the bridge. Once they help you this time, they’ll always help you, so now you have to be ready and show sincerity."

"Money?"

"Of course, but not that directly; this is political donation, Gao. Everything follows rules. If you step into this class, everything must be completed within rules, openly, legally, everyone gets what they need."

Gao Yang rubbed his eyes, smiled bitterly, "Looks like I need an assistant; I can’t handle this on my own."

Morgan pointed at his luxurious reception room, speaking seriously, "You were once a mercenary, your battlefield was out there, a narrow battlefield, but now your identity is different; your battlefield is here, so you must learn these and adapt. I always thought of teaching you these after you retire if you lived that long, because if you die in the middle, then there was no need to teach you, but now is the time."

Gao Yang scratched his head, "I’ll try my best."

Morgan intensely stared at Gao Yang, seriously, even sternly said, "Not trying! You must master these and do better than you did on the battlefield! The wars here have no smoke, but people still die. Do you think shaking off the mercenary status means peace in the world forever? Naive!"

Morgan leaned forward, tightly stared at Gao Yang, raised his voice, "Once you’ve embarked on this path, forget about turning back; war is life and death! Whether it’s with money or guns, it’s the same! Understand? It’s all the same!"

Gao Yang nodded and then looked directly into Morgan’s eyes, resolutely said, "I can do it; I will succeed!"

Morgan smiled, "Of course you can, your emotional intelligence is high, your IQ is not low, you have skills, and most importantly you have power, so you can definitely do it. You need to do better than me because you have a better foundation and broader path than I did, otherwise why would I choose you? Just because you saved my life?"

Gao Yang was speechless.

Morgan leaned back and lifted his wine glass towards Gao Yang with a heavy tone, "Simon saved me more times, but his limitation is a bodyguard; you are different, you broke out from the prairie on your own, you have your own armed forces, you have Grand Ivan’s friendship, you have the help of the Cicero Family, you have assistance from the cleaners, you even got Black Demon’s allegiance, each of these is your invaluable capital. If you didn’t have these, how would I dare to entrust all my own to you? Just to let you die faster? Listen, Gao, you have all conditions for success, if with all these resources you still fail, then you’re fit to die, taking everything you cherish and care with you to your grave!"
