Mercenary’s War
Chapter 2662 - 2636: Time to Play Ball
Little Donnie left, and Frey came.
Frey came alone. He knew that Yarebin and the others were at Gao Yang’s home, so bringing his family wouldn’t be appropriate. He thought Yarebin would sleep at Gao Yang’s place.
Frey rang the doorbell, but Gao Yang didn’t let him in; instead, he greeted him and directly got him into his car.
The Rolls-Royce was good, but it’s not as spacious as SUVs, so even though there were only five people, if they didn’t want to split into two cars, they had to change vehicles.
However, Little Donnie always got things done without Gao Yang having to say anything. A Ford Matwei was ready when Little Donnie was around. Now that Little Donnie was forced to leave, Gao Yang realized that life wouldn’t be so convenient in the future.
Patting the seat beside him, Gao Yang smiled at the still-drowsy Frey and said, "You’ve guessed it right, it’s time for baseball."
Frey’s face immediately turned sour. Gao Yang pointed to the seat beside him and said very seriously, "Get in the car, sit down and talk."
Frey angrily sat down and said, "Here you go again, here you go again!"
Gao Yang sighed, grabbed Frey by the neck, and said fiercely, "No refusing, no resisting!"
Frey struggled free from Gao Yang’s arm and shouted, "We agreed not to bring this up until we all retire, Boss."
Gao Yang smacked Frey on the head and jokingly scolded him, "You fool! The Major League Baseball draft is about to begin, and we’re about to retire, like literally. You’re just leaving a month earlier than everyone else to catch the draft. Got it? You’re already here, why say all this nonsense to me, let’s go!"
Frey scratched his head and said, "Are we really retiring? I’m not prepared, and leaving like this feels weird."
"What’s weird about it? Didn’t I leave first? I left early to pave the way, and you’re leaving early to catch the draft. We’ve got nothing to do in Yemen anymore, and if you miss this year’s draft, you’ll have to wait till next year, dummy!"
Frey hesitated and said, "I..."
"No ’but’s, no refusing, just follow me obediently."
Joseph started the car and laughed from the sideline, "Star pitcher, we’re counting on you, don’t let us down."
Frey smiled smugly. Gao Yang boasted triumphantly, "He’s already been booked by the New York Yankees. Trust me, Frey will be the greatest pitcher in American baseball history."
Frey humbly said, "Let’s not talk about being the greatest for now, let me earn my stripes first. Also, Boss, I don’t actually want to join through the draft. I want to join as a free agent to have more freedom, without participating in the draft."
Gao Yang was surprised and said, "Oh? Free agent?"
"The Major League’s most important draft is the first-year player draft, with teams with worse records getting higher picks. But the draft is limited to players from America, Canada, and Puerto Rico; players from other countries aren’t included in the draft, teams can sign them freely."
Gao Yang scratched his head and said, "Ah, so you can’t get the top draft spot, huh?"
Frey laughed and said, "The top pick goes to the team with the worst record. If I want to go to the New York Yankees, my draft rank wouldn’t be high. Also, I need to go to the Texas Rangers first. I must win a championship for the Rangers before going to the Yankees, so I want to join as a free agent, without time restrictions. But signing directly with the Texas Rangers is tricky because I’m not famous."
Gao Yang waved and said, "Don’t worry about that; signing with the Texas Rangers won’t be any issue, just throw some pitches for them."
At this moment, Gao Yang was indeed feeling proud, watching Frey embark on a bright path would give him a great sense of achievement.
Frey glanced back and said, "Mr. Yarabin, hello, Glewatov, hello. Are you coming too?"
Yarebin gestured and smiled, "Yes, to check out Yankee Stadium and see if you’re as good as Gao says. I’m counting on you to let me into Yankee Stadium to have a look."
Frey curiously asked, "Are you interested in baseball?"
"Oh no, just interested in the Yankees and Yankee Stadium. I had an old friend who liked baseball, and I just want to see Yankee Stadium."
Frey shrugged, "Then I’m sad, I thought you could understand how awesome I am."
Most people laughed at Frey’s words, while Gao Yang didn’t laugh, instead very seriously said, "Frey! Have you been practicing well these days? I warn you, if you slack off because of arrogance, I’ll beat you up!"
Frey stuck out his tongue and laughed at Gao Yang, "Trust me, Boss, trust me!"
Like a father sending his child to the exam, although he knows the child’s grades were good, it’s been quite a while, and he’s uncertain whether the child can still perform as before. Gao Yang felt a bit uneasy.
So Gao Yang was indeed quite anxious, and even upon arriving at Yankee Stadium and seeing the welcoming people, he still felt uneasy.
Upon seeing Gao Yang, Roger Ruth and Brian Cashman immediately came up to greet him.
Roger Ruth, the New York Yankees’ scout, was asked to check Frey’s pitching, and he believed he had found a genius.
Brian Cashman, the New York Yankees’ general manager, decided to bring Frey into the Yankees after hearing Roger Ruth’s opinion and seeing Frey’s pitching himself, which was also the Yankees owner’s intention.
The determination to bring Frey into the Yankees was so strong that the general manager personally waited to welcome them at the stadium’s entrance. It’s unprecedented for an amateur player being welcomed personally by Brian, never happened before.
"Frey, it’s great to see you again. Mr. Gao, fantastic, you finally came."
Brian enthusiastically shook hands with Gao Yang before turning to shake hands with Frey, knowing who had more say in Frey joining the Yankees.
After warmly shaking hands and hugging Gao Yang and Frey, Brian smiled apologetically and said, "Mr. Steinbrenner will be here soon; he wants to welcome you all himself. Oh, there’s his car, Mr. Gao, Mr. Steinbrenner is here already."
