Kael growled fiercely, launching himself forward to attack Eryx again at the python’s mocking words.

But Nuan anticipated the move, wrapping her arms even tighter around Kael to hold his heavy frame back.

With a frustrated grunt, Nuan slammed her wooden spear deep into the dirt, firmly positioning herself right in the narrow space between Kael and the python.

"Eryx, I’m genuinely grateful for your medical help, but do not insult my friend! Kael is not a dog! He is the Silver Grey wolf Alpha! I won’t tolerate someone disrespecting my friend," Nuan said firmly, her brown eyes blazing with furious energy as she looked straight into his slitted pupils.

A small, knowing smirk appeared on Eryx’s handsome face as he whispered back, "My deepest apologies for disrespecting your friend... I was merely unaware of the fact that Kael is now your friend. I was under the assumption he was just someone who abducted a beautiful female he found so he could claim her as his mate."

Well... he’s not wrong about the abduction part, Nuan thought dryly.

Without warning, Kael shoved Nuan safely aside as he stepped forward, his sharp claws swinging out to slap Eryx’s handsome face.

He immediately gripped the python’s pale neck in a chokehold, leaning dangerously close. "Say those words again," Kael barked, his fangs bared.

Eryx simply smiled, looking directly into Kael’s raging golden eyes. He licked his lips again, raising his thumb to touch a fresh drop of dark blood dripping from his cut cheek.

But in an instant, the pale skin on his cheek started hardening into glittering snake scales. The scratched, damaged skin layer casually shed off, dropping onto the ground as fresh, flawless pale skin instantly replaced it.

"Try that again..." Eryx whispered.

Before Kael could even register the movement, Eryx’s massive, heavy python lower half had already coiled tightly around Kael’s legs.

He tightened the crushing grip with a mocking smirk. Kael realized too late what the silent constrictor had done, tightening his own clawed grip on the neck, digging his nails slightly into Eryx’s throat.

"My, my... such an aggressive wolf you are," Eryx whispered as his huge coils raised up above Kael’s waist. The pale skin under Kael’s claws began hardening into smooth scales to block the damage.

"Stop it, both of you!!!!!" Nuan snapped, her patience completely evaporating. She lunged forward, aiming the point of her wooden spear directly at the side of Eryx’s head. "Let him go, Eryx!" Nuan commanded in a dangerously low voice.

"Tell him to let go of my neck first," Eryx replied calmly, his coils still squeezing.

"Kael!" Nuan whispered sharply, cutting her eyes to the wolf.

"No," Kael growled, his jaw locked tight.

Sigh... men and their primitive territorial pissing contests, Nuan groaned internally.

"You both are going to let go of each other on my command, together, or I swear there won’t be anything worse in this jungle than dealing with my anger!" she snapped, her tone leaving zero room for negotiation.

Kael’s wolf ears twitched at the threat, while Eryx’s smirk merely widened.

"Both of you, NOW!" Nuan ordered.

Kael let out a final, frustrated growl as he released his iron grip on Eryx’s neck.

Simultaneously, Eryx loosened his heavy, crushing coils from Kael’s body. As the python unraveled, the bruised, damaged pale skin on his throat hardened, shed, and dropped to the dirt, instantly replaced by clean skin.

Seeing them successfully separate, Nuan finally lowered her wooden spear, letting out a massive, exhausted huff. "Seriously! Do you two have a single shared brain cell between you?!"

Eryx licked his lips as he whispered, "Do not compare me with this wolf, Nuan!"

"Yeah???" Nuan countered, raising an eyebrow with a dry, judgmental look. "I really thought you were some smart guy, but after all, you are also just a typical beastman who happens to be a sadist!"

She let out a heavy sigh, rubbing her temples. "Anyways, apologize to each other and promise to not do anything like that again! That’s an order," Nuan commanded, crossing her arms.

"No!!! I won’t!" Kael barked instantly, his tail rigid with defiance.

"Psss... I can’t promise anything that involves risk," Eryx whispered smoothly, his slitted eyes gleaming. "I can’t help but swallow such a wolf alive if they happen to come at me with killing intent."

"That’s exactly why I said both of you need to promise you won’t do that, or I might need to take some strict actions!" Nuan threatened, narrowing her eyes.

"Actions!?" Kael tilted his head, completely unfamiliar with the concept of a human grounding him.

"Yeah, strict actions!" Nuan repeated firmly.

"Interesting," Eryx smiled, his python lower half shifting with mild amusement.

"I will simply leave and go far, far away, and then you two can happily draw each other’s blood all day long without me!" Nuan declared flatly.

Eryx’s elegant smile dropped instantly. Wait, she can’t just vanish. I’m the slowest for long-distance travel, and I have no good sense of smell compared to this tracking wolf! If she runs, I’ll never find my favorite borrower again, the python thought, a rare flash of panic entering his cold-blooded mind.

Kael, on the other hand, clicked his tongue internally. Hmph, I am obviously going to follow Nuan regardless of where she goes, so it doesn’t matter. the alpha thought.

"I am not saying sorry to this crawling insect!!!" Kael declared, puffing out his chest.

"Well... I’m sorry," Eryx said suddenly, his smooth voice cutting through the tension.

"Hm?" Nuan looked at him, completely caught off guard by how fast the giant snake folded.

A bright, mocking grin broke across her face as she looked back at Kael. "Yeah! Good boy, Eryx! See, Kael? Eryx is actually mature!"

Kael’s ears pinned back as a vicious wave of jealousy hit him at her praise. "I’m sorry too!!!" the alpha barked at the top of his lungs, practically shaking the leaves above.

"What kind of aggressive apology tone was that, Kael?!" Nuan hissed, rolling her eyes.

Nuan stared at him for a second.

Oh god. He’s not apologizing because he learned a lesson. He’s apologizing because I called Eryx mature.

"Anyways, promise me right now to not do any stupid killing games over me!"

"I promise," Eryx whispered, leaning his handsome upper body dangerously close to her face, his fork-tipped tongue catching the air.

Nuan frowned her brows at his sudden closeness and the soft, low, intimate tone of his whisper. Seriously, why is every conversation a dramatic performance with this guy?

Before she could step back, Kael’s massive arm shot forward, quickly pulling Nuan back by her waist and anchoring her firmly against his chest. "Stay away from my friend!" Kael barked, glaring daggers at the python.

"Kael! Your promise!?" Nuan asked, tilting her head up to look at the stubborn wolf holding her.

Kael clicked his tongue again, his ears twitching in absolute annoyance. "Tsk... I do..." he grumbled reluctantly.

"Hmm, good! Now, no more fighting!" Nuan chirped, finally breathing a sigh of relief as the two apex predators stood down.
