Chapter 1350 Snap
Chapter 1350 Snap
Mu Chenyan strode out leisurely with Xia Zhao keeping pace with her. She put her hand in front of her mouth as she yawned tiredly. Seeing her like this, Xia Zhao had the same doting look in his eyes as always. “My Yanzi is really tired, eh?” asked Xia Zhao.
“What do you think?” she retorted.
Feeling like teasing her, he added, “But didn’t I just hear someone say that she has endless energy in this world?”
Mu Chenyan of course hadn’t forgotten what she just said to Xia Songbei and it’s not like she was lying. She had always been the hyper bear kid. In other words, she was the most annoying brat whom everyone would hate for causing mischief at every step. “I did have that endless energy but I can’t deceive myself anymore. I’m getting old, Zhao,” she sighed tiredly.
Xia Zhao smiled at her response and touched her head, “What is this? Even my Dad refused to accept that he is old and here you are always bringing this up. If you are old, what am I?”
“If I’m old, so are you,” she told him leaving no room for any refutation on his part. Xia Zhao nodded his head, “I’ll accept that. I’ll be whatever you want me to be.”
“That’s more like it.”
He walked closer to her and put his hand around her waist as he pulled her closer. Mu Chenyan was stunned and in disbelief for a moment. She looked down at his hand placed on her waist and then at his face.
“What is this?” she asked.
“Since you’re old and so am I, we both need some support. I thought we should be supporting each other and bringing energy to each other too.”
“You make me speechless, Zhao,” she commented. “And I never thought I’d love this feeling of speechlessness.” She hugged his arm and said, “It seems you don’t mind being intimate in public anymore. My Zhao is leaving his uptight personality behind, eh?”
Mu Chenyan shrugged nonchalantly, “What can I say? My godmother taught me to only respect people who deserve that respect. I should not focus on age and seniority to show my respect. Because some people just don’t deserve that respect from me.”
“That dead woman had nothing good to say.”
“I’m being very civilized right now,” said Mu Chenyan as the temperature around her dropped and her eyes chilled. “I don’t need to remind you that my godmother is off limits. Say another word about her and I won’t hesitate before snapping some bones of yours even if I can’t snap your neck out of my last shred of ‘respect’ for you, just because you are Zhao’s biological mother and Uncle Song’s wife. So unfortunate for them, I’d say.”
Lin Qiao wanted to yell at her but she also knew she couldn’t push someone like Mu Chenyan who really would do what she said. She didn’t doubt that she’d break her bones. And her old bones won’t be able to take it. She wasn’t young like back then. So, she decided to not touch her sensitive points.
“Let go of my son,” ordered Lin Qiao.
Mu Chenyan held Xia Zhao’s arm even tighter instead of letting go as if purposely going against her to make her go mad with anger. And it worked because one could see a vein twitching on Lin Qiao’s face right now. “I didn’t even let go back then because of your words, what makes you think I’d do it now that he is all mine?” asked Mu Chenyan to her in a provocative tone.
Her words made Xia Zhao frown a little but he still chose to stay quiet. He’d just ask the questions he had later. For now, he couldn’t shake her momentum. Anyway, he didn’t care how she dealt with his mother because he knew Mu Chenyan had her own descretion and won’t cross the line she wasn’t supposed to cross. In fact, it was her respect for this ‘elder’ that she was still not lifting her hand at her. Because if she was a peer of someone younger, by now, Mu Chenyan would have resorted to physical violence rather than playing the game of words that she especially disliked and found too troublesome.
“You!” Lin Qiao was hopping mad as she stomped her foot and looked at her son. “Zhao, don’t you hate it when people get close to you? Why are you letting her even stand with you? Push her away.”
Mu Chenyan smiled at her while Xia Zhao pretended like he couldn’t hear her as his eyes were focused on Mu Chenyan whose smile didn’t reach her eyes right now. He could see the coldness in her eyes which was rare to find considering even when she hot-tempered, she rarely showed such coldness to people. It meant only one thing. She despised his mother very much. And he actually wasn’t sure why.
“I’m talking to you right now, Zhao!”
“I can hear you but who said I’d have to listen to you and act according to your words? If I wanted to be controlled by you, I wouldn’t be where I am right now,” was the only response Xia Zhao gave her in a voice that was devoid of any emotion. He seemed to be talking to stranger right now rather than his mother. However, it wasn’t all surprising if one knew about the history between this pair of mother and son. He had given too many chances to his mother and reached the point of being a stranger only after repeated failures to trying to build a normal relationship with his mother.
“You unfilial bastard!” shouted Lin Qiao loudly. “How dare you go against me again and again? I have let you go easily in the past and you think I can’t do anything to you. You are still my son no matter how hard your wings have gotten. I can still clip those wings of yours!” She raised her hand to hit him but her wrist was held by Mu Chenyan who was still smiling sweetly at her.
“You just snapped my last shred of respect for you,” she said in a calm tone and went on, “So, I’ll,” with a pause, a crack was heard as Lin Qiao screamed in pain looking at her wrist which Mu Chenyan just broke with her deadly grip. “Snap your bones. I always keep my promises.”
