Chapter 1340 Not This Talent
Chapter 1340 Not This Talent
Hyson’s jaw dropped and almost hit the floor when he saw Shui Xian coming back with Raelle. He rubbed his brows with his finger as he looked at the two of them coming together.
“Is it painful?” asked Xiang Wai to her in a small voice.
“What?”
“The slap!” she asked.
Hyson touched his cheek and felt like he was really slapped invisibly. He was just saying that it was difficult to bring Raelle to have dinner and here she was coming so easily with Shui Xian. Wasn’t it like slapping his face? He didn’t know about pain, but the slap was resounding for sure.
“You guys are here,” he said the obvious. “That was fast.”
Shui Xian gave him a look, “Didn’t I say? It isn’t difficult for me.”
“I don’t know what to say right now,” said Hyson. “All I can say is, you have my respect, Xian Ge!” But not being able to get over his curiosity, he still came to his side and asked in a whisper, “But how did you manage to do this? You see, I even took a drum to play by her side and the only response I got was almost getting hit by a coffee mug.”
Shui Xian frowned, “I don’t believe that. My wife doesn’t use violence.”
“She does when she is in her zone and you annoy her. I only figured it out when that coffee mug passed right past my head. Before that, I also thought she was against violence.”
Shui Xian shrugged, “Then I can only say, you were the one to blame in that situation.”
“I’ll take that because I indeed went too far back then. But right now, the question is how did you do this?” Hyson was still stuck on this point and couldn’t get past it at all.
“I did it the classic way which I used to make her fall in love with me,” answered Shui Xian.
“And what’s that classic way that you used?”
“My handsome face,” said Shui Xian.
Hyson gave him a disgusted look, “Ge, I don’t believe that.”
Shui Xian sighed, “You think my handsome face isn’t enough?”
“I don’t think it’s enough,” answered Hyson.
“Well, believe it or not. I did use this face to seduce her before and I used the same seduction today. It seems to work like a charm.”
Hyson repeated, “Seduction?”
“Mhmmm…”
Hyson rubbed his chin thoughtfully, “So, how does it work?”
Seeing how he looked so interested, Shui Xian patted his shoulder, “You’re still young to learn that.”
“All of you tell me to look for a partner. I’m old enough for that but not for this?”
“The art of seduction is not for everyone. You stick to your cute charms.”
“I feel like you just insulted me by saying that,” was Hyson’s response.
“That wasn’t my intention at all,” said Shui Xian. “You know I really like you.”
Hyson gave a dry laugh in reply and walked away from him. He’d just go and learn this art of seduction from someone else. It wasn’t like there was only one person who had this skill. But looking at all the faces in this room, his face fell. He did not think there was anyone here who’d have this skill apart from Shui Xian.
After all, the rest of the people even had troubles expressing their feelings around here. Just take Mu Chenyan as an example. She took half a lifetime to figure out her true feelings for Xia Zhao. Let’s not even talk about the rest of them.
“Elle, come and sit here for a while. The dinner will be here in a moment,” said Mu Chenyan.
Raelle nodded in agreement and sat down with the rest of them. “Where is Opa?”
“He went out to see some old friends,” replied Xiang Hulin. “He has friends here?” asked Raelle.
Xiang Hulin was silent for a moment before answering, “He went to the martyrs’ cemetery to pay his respects to his friends who are no longer around.”
“Oh,” was Raelle’s response. “When is he coming back? Won’t he have dinner with us? It’s quite late, no?”
“He might have met someone on the way. Don’t worry. Uncle Jiangou is with him. He’ll be fine,” told Mu Chenyan. “Anyway, this is his hometown. Let’s not restrict his movements too much.”
“Sure.”
“Didn’t you have something to talk to Ge about?” asked Mu Chenyan tentatively. “He’s here now.”
Raelle looked at Xiang Hulin and said, “I know he is here. I can see that.”
“What is it about?” asked Xiang Hulin trying too seem kind to her but it wasn’t working with his face. “Chenchen said you were looking for me which was a surprise to me.”
“I can’t look for you?” asked Raelle.
“You can. You definitely can. Come to me anytime you want to. But what is this about?”
“Is it okay to talk here?”
“Why? Is it a secret?”
“I don’t know. You’d know better.”
“Me?” Xiang Hulin asked in confusion. “You’ll have to elaborate for me to understand.”
“Weimin Ge shared the mystery of his life,” told Raelle.
“And what is this mystery?” asked Xiang Hulin with a attentive look.
“The mystery is who sent him flowers from the age of six to sixteen. He always had a bunch of purple magnolia in his desk every Friday morning. Rain or shine. Regardless of whether, the magnolia was in blooming season or not.”
Xiang Hulin’s eyes lowered when he heard that.
“Now, the question is, who left those flowers without a name.”
“If it’s a mystery, how would I know,” said Xiang Hulin.
“You know,” said Raelle.
“Is that a question?”
“It’s a statement,” she replied.
Xiang Hulin gave his daughter an amused look, “And how are you certain that I know.”
“Because when Weimin Ge told you about it, you told him to just let it be a secret and not dwell into it when it’s completely harmless to him.”
“Did I say something wrong?” asked Xiang Hulin. He was trying to wonder where he gave himself away with just those words.
“You, a commander of an army region, actually asked your son to not ask questions when things are out of ordinary? How does that make sense? Even if it’s just for the safety of your son, you’d do something to figure out who was behind it all. But you didn’t even question it. Why? Because you knew who was behind it all along.”
Xiang Hulin rubbed his temple listening to her explanation while Xia Zhao gave her a round of a applause. “Ge, your daughter has caught you so easily.”
“His reaction was full of loopholes but Weimin Ge didn’t pay attention to it at that time and later, he didn’t think deeply about it. Maybe that’s why he didn’t find anything weird. But I am not like that. I have to solve the mystery once it’s in front of me.”
“Dad!” Xiang Weimin called out to his father with a complicated look in his eyes. “Do you really know?”
Xiang Hulin nodded his head.
Xiang Weimin didn’t know how to feel right now but he still asked, “Who was it?”
“Your grandmother,” answered Xiang Hulin.
“What? Why?” He asked.
“I don’t know the answer to that. Because the agreement was between you and her. I don’t know why she started sending you those flowers but she did. When I asked, she said it’s a secret between her and her grandson and I should stay out of it.”
Xiang Weimin could not remember what secret he had with his grandmother. “Wait! But Grandma died later on,” said Xiang Wai. “Then how come Ge still got those flowers after she was no longer around?”
“That you’ll have to ask from the person who got your grandma’s inheritance,” replied Xiang Hulin. “Who is it?” asked Xiang Wai.
“Yanyan!” answered Raelle.
Mu Chenyan cursed her breath before saying, “Baby, can’t you let it be a secret?”
“I really can’t,” said Raelle. “Sorry!”
Mu Chenyan couldn’t possibly scold her at all. So, she was really helpless before her once again as she had been all her life. “Aunt?” Xiang Weimin looked at her inquisitively.
“Yes, it was me,” she accepted it. “After Godmother was gone, I took over this task. I asked someone to place those flowers for you. And if I was around, I’d put them there myself.”
“But why?” asked Xiang Weimin. “I don’t understand.”
“You really don’t remember?” asked Mu Chenyan. “I really don’t,” he replied.
Mu Chenyan sighed, “Well, then sorry to disappoint you but I also don’t know the answer to that question. I got the same answer from Godmother as Ge did. It’s a secret between you and her. And only you can tell why she was so persistent with this.”
This made Xiang Weimin fall into deep thought because he couldn’t jog up his memory from so long ago. Even with his good memory, he couldn’t pull out this small detail like Raelle could do. He didn’t seem to have this talent.
